Funnily enough I got asked by a young woman to ask if she could use my phone as her phone battery had died (Samsung :D )

I said all I had was my work phone, and sorry I couldn't help.

I had visions of some massive dude hanging round the corner ready to jump me while she ran off

I'm listening to Louis armstrong's "what a wonderful world" as I read these delusional and OCD germaphobic posts.

I always let them use it, but I have to dial the number for them to make sure they need to make a call.

With how expensive iphones are, I would guess no one here allow any strangers to use their phone.

"Always let them use it"... How often does this happen to you? This has never happened to me, but I guess it would depend on the person/situation. Is it an emergency situation like a car accident or something, how shady they look, how cute she is... etc.

I had a homeless lady ask to use mine. She was going to call her imaginary ride.

I told her to ask my wife.

My wife told her she didn't have her phone and then yelled at me:D

It was worth it for the look on her face

The level of paranoia in this thread is unbelievable.

And all we get from you is insults.

Of course I would let anyone use my phone if they asked, because:

1) I don't want to go through life assuming the worst of people.

2) I don't want to put material objects before other human beings.

3) I'm not a sociopath.

Every single person in this thread is a horrible person. You are venal, oblivious to your own cruelty, and shallow. The only time anyone would ask to use a phone is for help. Sad, sad, sad...

I need $50. Please help me out. Please?

no thanks. I don't remember the last time someone asked me but when they did I said sorry, no. it wasn't out in the streets or anything, in some store I believe. don't feel comfortable with my phone in their ear and they can easily run with it. not taking the chance.

I've only had 2 people ask me ever, was years ago and I let them borrow my phone for the call. Was kinda funny I was in middle school with adults asking to use my phone :D

I've never had anyone come up to me and ask to use my phone. If that were to happened, I would say no.

I've never had it happened but I would say "no" if it ever did.

If it were an emergency I would of course dial the number myself and they can use the speakerphone.

I let strangers use my iPhone. They can dial their own number; I'm not their baby sitter. It's not like they're going to steal my phone or anything. Sheesh.

How do you handle strangers asking to use your cell?

It really depends on the situation. I have lent my phone to people in the past, but I have also refused politely.

I like the idea of dialing the number and putting the phone on speaker. Beggars can't be choosers, right? ;)

I was approached by a stranger on a bus in Las Vegas asking to use my cell phone. This of course, happened right after I received a call from my friend telling us where to meet him. I reluctantly let the individual use my phone to make a call. Funny enough, he called a prostitute for a little rendezvous. Her name was Angel! I did think he was going to try and run off the bus with my phone in hand. Thankfully he didn't.

Wow :p

Person in line in front of me at lunch today had their credit card rejected, I paid for their meal. It feels good to help people. Give it a try.

I have to apologize to the OP, as my intention isn't to hijack the thread...

But would anyone in this forum ever ASK to use a stranger's mobile phone?

I was at an international airport baggage claim and someone I didn't know asked, albeit politely, to use my phone for a phone call.

I told him my battery was dying (yeah, I lied). But I replied kindly in return.

I was kind of appalled of someone walking around a baggage claim with no luggage asking to borrow a cell phone to make a call.

Holy **** dude that was me !!!!! My iPhone died on the plane back to the states because It had no outlets in consumer class and I had to call my parents to ask where they were going to pick me up ! None of the security guards could direct me to a pay phone or a land line phone free to use, while looking for outlets near the luggage area I decided to just ask someone lol being kind and well dressed helps for people to say yes

Sorry, but no. Depending on how sketchy it is I might be more or less aggressive about it, but once you see an Apple get "picked" you learn not to let ANYONE you don't know handle your phone unless you are inside a bank or police station.

I always try to have a few quarters on me (mainly for candy at the courthouse vending machines... never take dollars for some reason), so if it really looks like a person in need I will give out the change instead.

There are 2 kinds of people left in the world, those who haven't seen an Apple theft in person and therefore are naive, and the rest. I am in "the rest" category... I won't ever be doing it. Sorry. Have some quarters =)

i used to, and i had no problem with it, (usually because im out with friends and if he did try to do anything.. i mean theres one of them and like 6 of us so yeah)

but reading the posts, it is a 1000 dollar device,

i think im goign to have to tell people no from now on.

but hot chick? dont think ill turn her down, n if she did try to take off with it, id just tackle her to the ground mayb cop a free feel (lol jk)

i never really had a problem letting other people use my iphone, i mean i dont look like a push over (not trying to show off as tough or anything but im not someone that will just stand there if some one ran off by my phone and im pretty sure others can see that)

but now that i think of it, if it does happen, man that would be such a B**ch.

chasing them down (if they dont have any sort of weapon), and then possibly try to win a fight.

much easier to avoid to just say "no".

its funny ive gaven "sketchy" people to use my phone, and i was a bit paranoid, prob gave him a "im watching you, and im willing to do anything for my phone" look.

well that isnt happening anymore.
