No, actually, if you could read, you would realize that I'm looking for observations as to whether people can reach all points of the screen comfortably while holding the phone safely. If my thread doesn't interest you, just move on; no need to comment.

macrumors has gotten out of control lately. Hold the phone the best way you find comfortable. you have to start a thread about this? It's a phone, hold it and make a call. Geez.

Why would you have the headphones plugged in and hold it up to your ear at the same time?

He wouldn't. But he could be listening to the headphones while reading an email, text, or surfing the web.

Yet another example of someone not reading the original post, just reading the headline and posting a useless comment. Well done. Keep up the good work.

why would you create a thread about how to hold your phone? lol

why the hate? I think that is a perfectly logical question. I too cannot hold it the way I use to. It would be interesting to see how others are holding it. It's better than every person who has a scuff making a new thread 10 times a day.

Then he would have the same issue with the iPhone 5 as previous models.

He's talking about holding it up to his ear, and leaving his pinky at the bottom of the phone so it doesn't slide out. The headphones are not allowing him to do this.

i read what you wrote.....word for word. macrumors has simply become a beat down of a place with......how does your iphone sit in your pocket when your on the train riding into washington dc. Is it the same as when you are on the train in NYC. Off the wall stuff, ridiculous.

You hold your phone with a pair of tweezers?

apparently you need instructions of how to hold it.

no he would not b.c the jack was on the top with the old ones...

if he is a righty or uses the phone in his right hand, the spot where his pinky would rest is the same spot the headphone jack is.

that makes a little more sense tho. What ear do you put your iphone up to when you make a call?!? After the phone call, do you immediately put it in your pocket...i want to hear from everyone!!

troll's everywhere here

No one is talking about holding the phone while holding it to their ear. The thread is about holding the phone and trying to reach all points of the screen with their thumb. If you were holding the phone to your ear, you'd have no need to access any point on the screen.

I am not addressing your issue. I am addressing applesith's issue with his "pinky problem" and found the solution.

Apple is offering larger replacement hand(s), if you are experiencing any difficulties. However, all hands must be brought into an Apple store within the first 14 days of your iPhone purchase.

Disclaimer: You get the hand(s) you are dealt. There will be no exchanges once the procedure has been completed.

Manicures available for an additional cost.

no where did he say plugged in and using it while talking though...I think your "implication" was wrong :)

Right, at first I thought he was talking about while talking on the phone. I understand he's talking about when holding it. If this is an issue, it would have been with the iPod Touch's as well. Has that ever been addressed? If it's while holding it while looking at the screen is it during landscape mode or rotated 90 degrees. Maybe he could hold it 180 degrees and it would position the headphones in the old position.

The good thing about where they put the headphone jack now is that you don't have to have the headphone wire going in front of the screen. You can now either wrap your pinky around the jack or go to the other side of the jack.

I agree, it is in a much better position. However, if I used the phone with my right hand and in portrait mode it could be really annoying.

BADA BOOM! :p

But to be serious about the initial question, i tend to hold it the same way you do, except my index finger rests on a little clip I have added to the back of my iPhone case. I've had the same clip and held it the same way on all of the iPhones I've owned which started with the 3g.
The only difference with the 5 is that I tend to have the phone a little lower in the palm of my hand so I can reach the top of the screen with my thumb a little more comfortably. I'm not sure this is a particularly clear description, but it works for me and feels comfortable.

Does the little clip help keep a secure grip on the phone? I've seen something similar that's like a little tab that swings out from the back that can be placed between your two fingers, thus eliminating the need to keep your pinky at the bottom.
