Does the little clip help keep a secure grip on the phone? I've seen something similar that's like a little tab that swings out from the back that can be placed between your two fingers, thus eliminating the need to keep your pinky at the bottom.

Actually, it's a clip that allows the phone to connect to a belt clip. But I rarely use it for that. Instead, I have the 'belt clips' fastened to the dash in my cars so I can just click the phone in when I'm driving, see the screen and use it for GPS, music, etc.

macrumors has gotten out of control lately. Hold the phone the best way you find comfortable. you have to start a thread about this? It's a phone, hold it and make a call. Geez.

It's like the gym after New Years. All the noobs show up and try to fulfill their resolutions. It'll calm down after awhile. Does every year ;)

I've had my 5 since launch day and I have to say, I'm still having trouble getting used to the taller screen. My hands are average size and I normally hold my phone in portrait mode with my pinky finger hooked under the phone to prevent it from sliding out of my hand and hitting the floor. The problem with this method is that it is difficult to reach the upper left corner of the screen without releasing my pinky from the bottom. I'm not saying that it's impossible, it's just a stretch. I just wanted to hear other's thoughts on this and whether others are also having this problem.

And please, don't reply with "you're holding it wrong".

I hold it with my left hand. I have my thumb somewhere near the volume buttons or the silent/ring switch with my pinky near the bottom of the right side. Sometimes I move the phone up or down my hand depending on which part of the screen I'm trying to touch.

I used to hold my phones with my pinky under the bottom to prevent slippage, but my Otterbox has a cutout for the apple logo that I keep the tip of my index finger in to prevent slippage, and I can reach the entire display that way.

I hold it the roughly the same way, but I use gravity to my advantage. It's a lose grip, balanced on my pinky and using my 3rd knuckle joints of my ring & middle finger and the edge of my palm to guide the phone in the direction I want it pointing. In this way my thumb is completely free and has total range over the entire phone. I find that the tighter I grip it, the less of the screen I can reach. This can be a bit of a nervous grip until you get accustomed to it and learn to trust gravity not to propel the phone to the floor...

HA! ^^^ This...

It is funny. You show up on January 2nd or 3rd, and it's mobbed. As it gets closer to the end of January, early February you don't see them anymore. Their $200 worth of gym clothes and running shoes collecting dust.

I always put a TPU case on my iPhone and just hold it naturally without any thought. When using it, it seems like my ring finger does most of the counter-grip opposite my thumb/palm.

The TPU (or other I suppose) case is the most important part probably, it adds some grip to an otherwise slim & slippery phone and gives it some slight bulk for ease of handling.

Upright, thumb in one side, the rest of my fingers in the other side (oh well, small finger is kinda most of the time at the bottom, just for extra protection, in case it slips). Probably just like in the Thumb ad (been doing it before & after that ad). From here to here is easy :D.

Yeah there's a line that goes beyond silly. Of a person asking how do you hold your iPhone 5. He want's to probably see whether he is holding his iPhone right or if there is a way to hold it that will allow him to not stretch his thumb.

There can be reasons for him to post such a thread.

As for the what shirt were you wearing when you activated your new iPhone, if there were a post like that THEN that would be nothing of value to the person who posted it.

But this post here has some reasons to be posted.

Same way I held my 4S....similar to what the OP posted, but I have long fingers. My only annoyance is the other already voiced, I keep bumping my headphone plug with my pinky.
