Seriously...how do you justify it to yourself for a 256gb X upgrade/purchase? I mean with tax and Apple care (which is $50 more than what it used to be), it works out to about $1400! ..for a phone..that'll probably last about 3-4 years. Those of you who say their current phone doesn't put up with me anymore..would a cheaper 8 not cut it? Why X? I know you may be able to afford it, but why throw away money?

Curious to know your reasons..

No Apple Care. It's a waste of money.

Read this thread to answer your questions:

If it's capacity your looking to justify: Why 256GB over 64GB?

The answer to that depends on your usage. Though in general:

1. Better apps, games, and now Augmented Reality are going to be more and more popular, they will eat up phone space.

2. Live photos are basically mini-video recordings/leeches that take up more phone space.

3. Better camera and 4K will compound live photos, and videos as far as storage requirements.

You simply don't buy it if you need to justify it. This kind of purchase requires no justifications. The reason why you buy an unnecessarily expensive product with stand-alone features is self-explanatory. If it is not obvious, then perhaps you should not buy it.

Thanks for the thread. You've articulated very well why the extra cost is worth it. It's the cost I am looking to justify. I assumed these days 64gb is nothing and more so if you plan to keep the phone for a couple of years.

Honestly, I am trying to understand what you stated. If you are referring to status, then sure.

Justify?
If I want it and can afford it I may buy it.
If I can't afford it I don't buy it.

Yes, justify, as I never thought affordability means you can throw away $$..

I don't really need to justify, but I am not paying anywhere near that in reality.

I have an iPhone 7 plus 256gb which I only paid $300 for.... I switched over to T-mobile and used a promotion which paid off the rest of financing on the phone which was about $669... so when you factor that in plus me selling it for around 600 - 700 to subsidize the cost of iPhone X, I'm getting a great deal.... and I don't bother with AppleCare since I upgrade every year. and I think its a waste.

Glad it was helpful!

For me it's not wether I can afford it or not.
Off course I can afford it in full but do I want to pay that outrageous high price?
Hell No.
Is face id, animoji and an OLED screen worth paying that much for a device that seems like a failed rushed out beta experiment?
I love iPhones but this is the first year that I feel like this device is not interesting me at all and doesn't justify its price tag.
I know many will still buy it but I feel there's many that will get underwhelmed and turned off like me.

You should read this thread too. I think you'll realize it is not so outrageous if you think about it.

Not trying to sway you in either direction, but I can understand if the notch, and other things make you disinterested.

You are still paying that price.
Wether you got the previous phone for free and will sell it and use the money towards the new one or you go out and collect aluminum cans or win the money at a casino in order to come up with that $1000-1100.
You're not getting a great deal:D

Obviously you have to deny logic and utilize all your justification skills.

Seriously though. This is a first get design change and, as we've seen in the past, these are ALWAYS the worst iteration of iPhone. So, as much as I'm tempted by a larger screen in a smaller phone, I imply can't see past the fact that I'll be paying more money for a phone with a (comparatively) crippled experience.

At certain incomes (and above) $1400 isn’t much at all.

If someone finds $1200+ for a disposable device too much, then the X isn’t for you.

yes you're right I am still paying that price, my situation is unique in that I got $600 paid off my 7 plus which I am using to subsidize my iPhone X purchase.... At the end of the day yeah you're right I am paying 1150 for a phone, but my out of pocket will be substantially less.... I guess you can compare it to winning $600 at a casino, in this case T-mobile was my casino lol.

I don't need to think of it that much to realize it's not worth it to me personally.
I realize a Ferrari is a great car too but I'm not getting one either:D

Hey, if you don't want it, you don't want it. Though you never know. I thought I didn't want the 8 or the 8+, but some of these threads popping up left and right with the photos make the phone look really nice!

I got my iPhone 7 for free with bill credits from T-Mobile too. I don't see that as getting a great deal on this new iPhone. It was a great deal a year ago on that iPhone 7.
I won a $500 scratch ticket last year, does that mean that I'm getting a great deal on this iPhone and paying only $600 for this new iPhone x too?:D

If you stuffed the $500 under your mattress and whip it out to pay for the new phone then yes :p

T-Mobile is the bomb.

I'm more interested in the i8 plus actually.
It still has Touch ID, big screen, fast processor and even though it went up a little in price than last years model I feel like it's worth it's current price tag value.

If Samsung didn't come out with their InfinityEdge display, I would pick an 8 up immediately. The i8 plus is just too big for my small hands.

It's just a discussion and we're presenting individual point of views.
I don't think anyone has to explain or seek acceptance on why they are or they are not purchasing one.
Everyone makes their own choices and spends their money as they want obviously.
There is no right or wrong answer, it's all opinions and preferences I think.

Why does someone have to have reasons? Why do people have to justify the purchases they make?
