Seriously...how do you justify it to yourself for a 256gb X upgrade/purchase? I mean with tax and Apple care (which is $50 more than what it used to be), it works out to about $1400! ..for a phone..that'll probably last about 3-4 years. Those of you who say their current phone doesn't put up with me anymore..would a cheaper 8 not cut it? Why X? I know you may be able to afford it, but why throw away money?

Curious to know your reasons..
You have to be rational and buy based on your need, value, and affordability. This year launch is pretty much where it comes down to.

So spending 1400 on the 10 is bad but spending 1200 on the iPhone 8 Plus with a dated design is a good idea?

I already bought the 8 and 8+ and I'm buying the X because in the end I'm rich and it's the tenth anniversary of the iPhone. I've had every iPhone so not stopping now. Hahaha to those who don't buy it.

Oh by the way. I'm also buying the new xl 2 v30 mate 10 (maybe) and essential phone

a device that seems like a failed rushed out beta experiment?

I can completely understand why someone might feel like the X is a roll of the dice this year, but what exactly is that assessment based on?

I mean, rushed? Given that this is the anniversary model, the a11 alone has apparently been in production since the a8 was released, they held off on a new design for an extra year, and there were reports of an OLED iPhone in the works before the 7 even came out, I kind of get the impression that this is the most time they’ve put into an iPhone probably since the first.

Then on the flip side we have this, where apparently all that matters is the design. Given that the 8+ has the same internals as the X and can do almost everything that the X can do, I don’t see why getting it for $200 less is a bad deal. “Dated design”... like it’s last year’s fashion accessory.

I just find it laughable that some wanna say "omg how dare you spend all that money on the 10 when the 8 is the smarter choice" Lmaoooooo as if the 8 is that much cheaper? So again, why is bad to spend 1400 on a newer design and better screen as opposed to spending 1200 on a 3-4yr old design with a outdated display as well? I'm getting the 10 and I'm gonna enjoy. Why? B/c I can afford it. Get the 8 if you want lol jeez, no need to be overly sensitive lol

Over years Apple has satisfied most of the customers. We have benefited a lot from Apple’s beautifully designed simple products. Kids, old people who couldn’t use high tech products learned easily from apple’s products. My mom, dad, kids in family who are not computer/tech savvy at all uses apple products like champ. Now its time for us to give something back in return and celebrate with Apple on iPhone’s Ceremony. But i think apple should give 2 years warranty with strict rules that only genuine malfunctioning be fixed. Apple is also not forcing anyone to buy X they have beautiful versions of 8 too.

Some of yall a trip lol. It's like yall really be trying to either convince yourself or other people that your preference is the way to go. You wanna get the 8? OK cool. Do you. But stop trying to shame people b/c of how they choose to spend their own money. Last time I checked, the regular 8 wasn't exactly cheap. I'd rather spend the extra money and get the best iPhone, not the "cheaper" not as good (my opinion so calm down) alternative. At the end of the day, it's my money that I worked my ass off to get. I'll spend it how I want. Hell I'll buy the 8 and the 10 if I want

I’m getting a X, but that doesn’t mean I think the 8 is a bad decision. When it comes down to it you’re right that the price isn’t that different, but neither are the specs. It’s a couple of hundred more for a better screen and a couple more bells and whistles. So it’s interesting that you thought I was being defensive towards buying the 8. Either side that calls the other a bad purchase is the pot calling the kettle black.

You can choose which iphone you want. But trying shame a person for spending their money how they see fit is what annoys me and that seems to be a common theme around here. I'm not trying to bash your decision. B/c it's just that...your decision, whether you get the 10 or the 8. Hell I've been saying that on this forum. And I'd rather pay the extra money for the better design and better display and overall better phone. And your post did come off kinda rude. You basically mocked my reasoning for going with the 10. But it's all good dude. Keep doing you. Enjoy your iPhone :)

Did you miss the part where I said I’m getting a 10 myself? And all I bashed was how you seemed to look down on the 8 for its “dated design”. Are we talking about smartphones or purses?

I don't know, I like to gamble so I might go for it and just roll the dice.
They put in a lot of time this time but I don't know if I can wait all that time till I can get one by February-March of 2018 if there's any available stock.
Or just save my money and get the iPhone XS next year:D

[doublepost=1505969172][/doublepost]I hear you on that.
I think we should all give something back to Apple.
I'm thinking about starting a go fund me page for Apple inc.
It's only fair to give than to receive...

Now its time for us to give something back in return and celebrate with Apple on iPhone’s Ceremony.

I justify large purchases by how much they’ll cost every day to use. Assuming 2-year use the daily cost of each phone will be:

iPhone 8 64 GB: ($700*1.08)/(730 days) = $1.04/day

iPhone 8 256 GB:
($850*1.08)/(730 days) = $1.26/day

Does 22 cents per day justify that 256 GB iPhone for you? It would for me. The difference gets smaller the longer you use the device as well.

BTW, the 1.08 is the 8% tax rate in my California city, so factor in your tax rate.

That's a good approach and a positive way to see it.
So if my wife says WTF did you do? You spend $1100 on a new cellphone?
I can tell her its not really what it looks like, it might be $1100 but in reality its only $1.50 a day.
Get it?
You spend $2-3 a day at dunkin donuts for ice coffee each day. Why cant I be happy too since I dont like to drink coffee? :D

Yes the design is dated in comparison to flagships from 2017. Those huge bezels? No thank you. I have an S8+ right now and the 8 looks so damn old. And yes thats one of the main reasons I'm not getting the iPhone 8. And a LCD screen compared to oled? I'll take my Oled HDR screen please. So yeah to me, the iPhone 8 is the inferior iPhone model. I'm sure some will say the 10 is and that's perfectly OK. I'm still getting my iPhone 10

Ha! That’s great. But it’s kinda true right? What if you had to buy your lattes one year at a time... that’ll be $720 please!

Honestly, I am trying to understand what you stated. If you are referring to status, then sure.

Well, you usually do not have to justify when you buy the top-notch product. You buy it because it is the best. Period. These products tend to be more expensive, due to high margins, or higher production costs, or whatever. The fact is that, in the majority of cases, the additional price is not worth it considering the additional benefit you may get, but you still buy it anyway.

On the other hand, you may have to justify buying certain products. You may need to justify buying the iPhone 8, for instance, and the justification would be, "well, the iPhone X is not worth it", or "I am still not convinced by Face ID". Or you may have to justify buying the iPhone 7, on the grounds that "I don't see any reason to buy the 8 instead, as it does not bring many enhancements". But you may hardly have to justify the iPhone X, it's kind of self-justifying.
