I cant say I'm disappointed. I mean the being able to download a podcast straight to the unit is a nice feature. As well as the fix to the contacts (no more lag).. Its Def a step in the right direction..

I give Apple Kuddos on this one. But there is still work to do..

Happy with Safari. Much stablier than 2.1 (almost unusable) Will know for sure in a few days.

Would like them to continue to concentrate on call drops.

Phil

Seems to bring more stability and polish to the OS, but I didn't really care about any of the new features added. It would be cool if they completely revised the Safari build with the newer Webkit code (and all of its speed boosts), but considering that Safari 4 proper on the Mac is nowhere to be seen (they kind of just gave up on this one...but the latest Webkit nightlies are excellent), I doubt that an overhaul is coming anytime soon.

If 2.2 is the update they had to do before implementing any further functions (like c/p, MMS, etc...), the I guess I am happy with it. Safari hasn't crashes once for me since the update, so that's a good thing. Street view...meh. And I never really had any problems with dropped calls.

Now, I really can't see any further tweaking or improving that Apple can do with their current OS. It's very basic, but it's very stable. I guess for the next update they really don't have any other choice but to add new features.

I feel this just has to be a problem with your carrier or where you are living because I live in a fairly populated area where I know I always have a good signal and I never get dropped calls. Now, if I didn't live in a well-served area, I probably would get dropped calls, but this would likely be due to the carrier's limitations.

Extremely happy - here's my reasoning...

They gave us what they said they would. I don't know why, but some (many) developed expectations that 2.2 would secretly include updates like MMS, C&P, Landscape KB, or even push... I never expected any of that, as I assume it would be publicized, with some fanfare before release.

We got what we were told was coming (granted not overly useful to me, personally), but, more important to me, we got some desperately needed fixes.
  • Push/fetch email now appears to work the way it should (VERY important)
  • I haven't seen a single Safari crash, yet (VERY important)
  • Battery life seems to be improved (important)
  • Overall the phone seems to be quicker to load stuff (important)

I have to say, I have even used the "rate after delete" function, as well... I likely would have left feedback anyway (app was money wasted), but I like the pop up idea - hopefully people use it, to help save us all from future purchases that do not deliver.

where is the dont give a crap option

There are two of them, you only have to choose which one to take:

Both of the options are located in the top left corner of your browser.

Feel free to use

haha good response to my post. didn't mean to come across as a jerk but really I don't really have any use for the new update. A lot of the things that gets updated does me no good here in japan. i would love it though if i was in the states. Emoji is cool from time to time but not really a big deal.

If you were looking for some new features then I can totally understand that you are disappointed with the recent update. I am looking on the bright side and enjoying the performance boost and responsiveness my iPhone gained after the update :D

OH SWEET JESUS! That is a sacrilege. Most people from Japan on this board have been fighting to the death defending these little guys. You are a first.

im not from here though. like i said i am stationed here so it will be cute once in a while when my wife sends me something. I am sure the japanese like it though.

what i would like to see that is rather minor but helpfull is on the calendar to have the choice (without doing it in ical) to have something repeat on a certain day every year/month/week. Like birthdays and such, that way you dont have to go in and do it for every year. But I am sure the reason they are not giving us this is because they do not want you to have the same iphone more than 1 year:p

You can actually do this! In the calendar app tap + and enter event information.

Then go to Repeat times - there you can select the following options - none, or every day, week, two weeks, month, or year

See attached screenshot

Enjoy

How about the additional battery drain? I'm finding my unit sucks up more battery than before. Many apps need to be update like Facebook for one.

Most of the opinions concerning battery life in 2.2 I have seen so far were happy with the update or at least stated that it was the same.

You could always try calibrating it - full discharge followed by a full charge. A good read concerning prolonging life of lithium-based batteries can be found here

I agree that Facebook for iPhone needs an update, but its not Apple's responsibility to do that. Its being developed by facebook, by Joe Hewitt to be even more precise.

No complaints, I like that they improved the speed and stability of the OS - that should be the first order.

Buuuut, a couple things are still missing:

Contacts search - OK am I missing something here or is there really no way to search contacts except by name? Sometimes I remember the first or last name, sometimes neither just the name of a business, sometimes the address but not the name, etc... this would be great for people with hundreds of contacts.

Home screen shortcuts - Turn 3g, Wifi, Bluetooth, Push on/off from the homescreen.

*Edit* Google Mobile App will let you search contacts. :)

Very Happy

I had 6 of the original iPhones due to malfunctions or for what ever reason just quit working. I am very pleased with the 3G and still have the one purchased on day one. Safari is working great and mine has NEVER crashed... a lot better with the update. If you are using you phone as your only computer then I can understand why some people may complain. At home I would rather use my laptop and at the office my iMac.. much easier and screen a LOT bigger. While traveling or in a car or train I can manage well enough with the iPhone and can do task that used to not be an option without the iPhone. The 3G 16-gig for $299.00 is in my opinion the best money ever spend for a cell phone and all the other STUFF is AWESOME. Stop complaining or go back to what you had before.... I understand GOOGLE has one out now!!:apple:

I used to watch podcast videos streamed to my iphone. In particular, I used to be able to watch NBC Nightly News streamed to the iPhone. Now with 2.2, it says that it doesn't support the video format and FORCES me to download the podcast. The worst part is that the podcast as shown via iTunes is often hours late, sometimes it doesn't show up until the next day.

Has anyone else noticed the weird behavior.

Kinda of a ho-hum upgrade but once i re-jailbreaked, ...everything has worked great (2G) Really like the street view and the browser page is ok i guess...other than that, id have to go look at what is new.
