Spot on post! Especially the conclusion.
Poor form to pile on but... come on! Spot on conclusion of assigning a random number to hyperbole? I wonder if it hurt when he literally pulled that "statistic" out of his arse. You guys sound like you're getting commission for sales of 2015's. Just enjoy them in peace!

Ha, the claim in the conclusion that the 2015 is "far superior in 80% of the cases" is obviously and demonstrably false by any reasonable standards. But facts and reasonableness have little sway where people have strong feelings.
Funny catch. I didn't see this one, and it was a GOOD one!

I had both the 2015 and the 2016 15" MBP and the 2015 is NOT "far superior in 80% of the cases" that is stretching it big time. The 2016 is leaps and bounds better than the 2015, much better screen, much better battery, very nice compact size and lighter, better back lighting and keyboard just feels so much better. I just didn't like the hollow sound of some of the keys and some being noisier than others but that's my beef.

The 2015 is still a very well built machine, it's the availability of the ports and proven reliability of a almost 3 yr old product that's swaying peoples opinions in feeling the 2015 is superior when in reality the 2016 is a better product. If they could fix a few things I don't like about the 16'...I have money to throw back to Apple.

The performance is fine and the screen is lovely. Having to use dongles doesn't bother me too much, but the biggest gripe I have is the keyboard. It's noisy and I still make far more mistakes typing than I did on my old MacBook Air.

The battery life on my brand new 2016 TB Macbook Pro is terrible - I get double the battery life on my 2014 :(

The only apps I have open are chrome and intellij. I closed intellij and it raised my estimated time remaining by 12 minutes...

What model do you have, and how much battery life do you get (based on actual use, not time remaining predictions)?

Chrome is a known battery hog, by the way.

I get roughly 3.5 hours on average. I have a daily training session that lasts 3 hours, and I use battery for the duration of the meeting. I usually have about 30 minutes left when it's over.

I know Chrome runs a little worse than Safari - but I use Chrome on my 2014 macbook pro and get better battery life

Battery concerns aside, I really enjoy this laptop. Thankfully this is a work computer, so there was no $$$ exchanged on my end. I would be pretty upset if I had purchased this myself.

That's bizarre, I'm getting the same battery life with a shitton of apps open.

Something is wrong. Even using Chrome, you should get a lot better battery life than that, unless Chrome is settled on some page that does something strange.

If you'd like to look into this, you can open your Activity Monitor (Launchpad > Other) and click on the Energy tab to see what's using the power when you're using the machine normally. Is there anything with an average impact over 20?

You can also check your battery. Open About This Mac as you did for the screenshot and click on System Report > Power. When fully charged what numbers are there for Charge Remaining and Full Charge Capacity? They should be over 6500. You can also check whether the battery condition is Normal.

Or you can call your IT person and make them figure it out. You should get at least twice the battery life you're getting.

After one day, I'm not loving my 2016. I knew about the drawbacks, but using the laptop, I'm acutely award of them. The big two are:
1) Missing Magsafe (as annoying as it can be, my dog has a nasty habit of walking past me and yanking the cord)
2) The giant trackpad. I don't use gestures. I don't want to use gestures. It's just unwieldy for me as a result.

Obviously the keyboard is inferior too, but I can live with that.

I'll give it my 2 weeks of the return period to see how I feel then. Obviously the screen is nicer (albeit not a night and day improvement next to my 2014), and the speakers are spectacular. Right now, I could go either way.

^^Yup the speakers don't get enough mention, they are the loudest speakers I've ever heard on the 2016 MBP I really liked them.

Laptop issues aside, you have a daily meeting that lasts three hours?!?

I don't know how much you are paid, but you deserve a raise.

Look, let's get real...Apple has NOT maximized the abilities of the port and put out something which absolutely requires adapters or new cables to do literally anything. Even a USB key.

Good thing Apple doesn't push the "It just works" slogan anymore if they did they'd have to add a *.

It just works... after you buy an additional dongle or buy and replace anything that has been able to connect to a computer for the last decade with a USB c version.

Sorry you don't have to buy new headphones...unless you want to use apples lightning connector headphones which also require a dongle or a "legacy" replacement to work with their new laptop.

Well, that, and that the stuff doesn't just work anymore. I've restarted this 2016 MBP more times in the last week than I normally restart a computer in a year, almost always due to peripheral connections (same peripherals I have always used, just a new laptop).

I think I died a little on the inside just reading that.

I like the design. Space Grey looks very nice. But after one day of using it i'm not impressed. I don't like this new keyboard (keys on my 15" early 2008 are so much better) and touch bar is nice but nor very useful (i miss "f" keys). I think i'll return it or sell it. Speakers are very good on this new 15" model. Display is also great. I need to test the battery life but i think it's not that bad.

Did you all buy your MBPs in Apple store or also from premium and authorised resellers? Is return policy different from Apple store and authorised resselers?

Interesting on the battery life. I teach a 3 hour night class and my 13" nTB is connected to a projector the entire time. I run Keynote for about 90 minutes (which includes video clips). Then there are various group instructions on a projected pages document. The point is the computer is active the entire time. I would say it uses about 25-30% of the battery.

It's actually a training session, not a meeting :)

Aha. That makes more sense. The only meeting I have, lasting more than 1 hour daily, is with my pillow hahaha :)

That has been my experience during presentations as well. I have been happy with the battery expectancy and I suppose I should be happy with Keynote's efficiency as well.

But different connectors. Have to get ones that work, of course. Tests have shown a lot of USB-C cables and adapters don't meet USB-C specs and don't work properly.

Take a little time before deciding (and before testing the battery life). Check with your retailer about their return policy.

I feel like we're brothers from another mother. Those are exactly my thoughts (plus annoyance at the trackpad). It's telling that I'm typing this to you on my 2014 15" rather than the TB 2016 right beside me.

I bought mine as a refurb 3 days ago. Different resellers will have different policies. Some won't let you return it once you crack the seal. Apple's own 14 days no questions asked policy is pretty generous.

I'm using Apple brand adapters to HDMI. So, if Apple isn't building their own adapters to meet specs, that doesn't bode well.

There are better adapters for HDMI than the Apple one, according to reviews. I always read reviews carefully before I buy.

And the cable matters too, of course.
