Um, yes, something like that exactly, but with two female lightening ports on the bottom.

You want that hanging off your phone all the time?
[doublepost=1473957502][/doublepost]Somebody just seems butthurt about the removal of the headphone jack.
The only time Im charging and listening at the same time is when I am stationary. So, I dont get your well thought out criticism.

Then get the apple dock and use your 35mm headphones. Problem solved, and Apple even suggested this as an option themselves.

You asked why one connector can't do multiple things.

It CAN. That is the answer to your question. Just because you don't like the answer doesn't mean it isn't the correct answer.
The answer to my question was if it could do both. My question then evolved to my implied question of "well why isnt there a splitter." You didnt even know it could do both so why are you still around?

Ummm....I was the one who told you about the splitter in the very first post.

Probably because most people wouldn't use it?

Relax man. Belkin is just the first. Pretty soon you'll be able to buy these things from Walmart for $5.

So I need to carry around my apple dock, instead of just keeping a small splitter attached to the plug end of my charging cable. Good solution

So this?

A splitter on your charging cable would not supply music, now would it?
[doublepost=1473958235][/doublepost]I thought he was thinking this (but with lightening connections)

But doesn't understand the circuitry involved for power splitting.

But with his last post I don't understand his rationale at all.

I cant tell if you guys are being intentionally thick, or if you really just don't see how easy of a solution apple was faced with but failed to accommodate. If I want to charge and listen at the same time, I have to have it hooked up to a charger, OBVIOUSLY. So, this adapter would STAY ON the charger end. According to you all, this should be able to charge through one port and transfer DATA from the PHONE through the other. WOW.

I can see coming where an additional lightning port is molded/piggybacked right into the headphone plug without another cord hanging off. The Belkin solution would work, but pretty clunky.

The lightning connector can absolutely do both, transfer power and transfer data, at the same time. It is a multi-purpose, multi-capability connector. An example of the connector doing both would be when using the Apple dock, power from the wall is going into the dock and through the lightning connector to charge the phone..SIMULTANEOUSLY audio is coming from the phone, THROUGH THE SAME LIGHTNING CONNECTOR into the dock and through to any speaker or headphones you have plugged in. One connector. Magic.

This is because you have power entering from a power source and audio exiting to an audio device. If I unplug the audio device, then the lightening connector is only serving to charge the phone.

If I unplug the cord in the wall socked, then music will still play but I will no longer be charging the phone.

This has nothing to do with the CAPABILITIES of the lightning connector.

Everyone knows what you're talking about. That original question was answered. Then your question seemed to change and no one understood what you wanted to know after your original question was answered, because you seemed to keep asking it.

So, only reason I have been given for apple not doing this...

"They didnt want to provide an adapter."

Except the did provide a dongle for the headphone jack, which is stupid because they include a lightning headphone. It doesnt address the real problem of not being able to charge and listen simultaneously, so the 3.5 mm dongle should have been what I am proposing, FROM THE BEGINNING.

Oh, and they have offered adapters just like this in the past. So, you are all talking out of your asses.

So, I need to post a new thread in your opinion? My assumption from the beginning was that there was some reason this was not possible with the lightning connector, otherwise WHY would apple not provide a solution on their own as they are the ones changing the standard after all...

I think Apple CHOSE not to get into the game of patch cables and other adapter accessories and leverage the 3rd party market for that, so they can focus on core device functions, not the world of scenarios and oosssibilities... I see this as focus, not failure... there will be loads of accessories options to do whatever you want to do... ther are several already... so pinning it on Apple as a "failure" is weak. It's akin to criticizing Toyota because they don't make the tires and manufacture the gasoline too...

if you can get tires from tire manufacturers who cares if Toyota doesn't make tires? They're not cheating anyone.

That's the Belkin adapter.

http://www.theverge.com/2016/9/8/12852098/belkin-apple-iphone-7-plus-adapter-dongle-charge-music

They didn't fail to accommodate. They just chose to not to.

As stated in the article, they WORKED with Belkin to develop this. They just didn't want to create it THEMSELVES.

THIS IS YOUR SOLUTION. IT WAS ANSWERED IN THE FIRST RESPONSE IN THIS THREAD.

Apple has specifically said, I seem to recall, "we are letting our accessories partners deal with accessories" (paraphrasing)

So to answer your 15th question of the same question – Apple provided the 3.5mm dongle for people who want to use their own headphones. Not everybody wants to use OEM apple headphones. They don't want to limit you to using only their lighting headphones. Maybe they have expensive Sennheisers, maybe the people love their Skullcandy earbuds. You can't use those without an 3.5mm dongle. So apple is not saying "NO, you can only use OUR headphones." They are saying, "we understand everyone loves their own headphones, so here's a 3.5mm dongle for you to keep using those if you choose."

Actually, its akin to comparing it to what apple has done in the past when they change standards from previous iterations of their product.

This thread is amazing.

"I have a stupid idea that would result in more people complaining about a ridiculous split headphone design than not doing it, but because it's technically doable (no disputing that) that means they should" <-OP's point in a nutshell

Point taken, I only use the OEM headphones so this didn't occur to me.

They didn't provide a solution because they don't see this as a problem.

Apple is changing the standard because they want to change the way we use our phones. How much sense does it make to provide an adapter that completely defeats the purpose of what they're doing?
