I know it was. I saw the adapter. Then throngs of people came in and needlessly criticized what a stupid idea it should be for someone to need this...Which wholly disregards that the main negative people are complaining about is not having this capability out of the box.

Nobody in this thread criticized the need for the adapter.

Soooo, DON'T buy the new iPhone?

That depends on your situation. I definitely think this 7 is a pretty lame release. I'm getting it because i'm in the iPhone upgrade program and I also want the smaller phone again, but if I wasn't I wouldn't bother.

You'll definitely want the 2017 iPhone though. I'd only get the 7 if you're willing to trade it in a year or if your current phone is a disaster.

I prefer the heavier braided fabric cables from 3rd parties... mostly because they don't tsngle half as bad and tend to hold up better over time.

Thanks for your input molyc, but as I stated in my question, you can charge AND transfer data on your PC with the lighting connector at the same time, thats "one slot" too. My question was how data transfer is any different than music transfer. Also, if Belkin can provide a solution before people even have phones in hand, why did Apple not already provide a solution.
The did. The charging case ;)

Meh. I see it as taking care of a niche market with a niche product.
The Motorola zoom is similar with its modular design, ppl can choose the things that are most important to them, and he rest don't have to buy into the things they don't need.
If wireless charging becomes a reality, it will play out the same way... you'll be able to buy the phone with the capability of wireless charging, but it'll still come with a charging cable... and the charging base station for wireless charging will be $150+ extra... because there will be a huge number of peop,e for whom wireless charging won't make sense until they can take advantage of it anywhere they are, transit, restaurants, hotels, home, work, etc... so there has to be that bridge between now and the future to make the transition easy...

Otherwise you end up with hydrogen powered cars and nowhere to get hydrogen to fill them

From the Macrumors front page article:

"According to Belkin, the Lightning Audio + Charge RockStar was developed "closely" with Apple, and it does indeed resemble Apple's own iOS adapter accessories."

And NOBODY at Apple stood up, wanked his (or her, as we remain so multi-ethnical) fist on the table and bragged "OMG, WE CAN'T DO THAT TO OUR CUSTOMERS, let's put in a second port FGS"
