Honestly? I get new phones when my son ultimately destroys the last one. I have a 7+ currently, he’s using my old 6+ and recently the home button stopped working and then he dropped it and shattered the display. It no longer received a signal from att.

So I bought the iPhone X and he’s getting my 7+.

Spoiled brat.

I signed up for the upgrade program this year just so that I can ditch the phone in case this year’s phone has issues I can bear for more than a year. So it will depend...

I'm surprised so many of you change phones annually. For me I buy full unlocked and keep for 3-4 years until iOS updates start to slow the phone down or updated apps don't work as snappily. Usually also keep nice designs around just because they are nice. iPhone 4 is iconic. 5s too. I think the X will be.

Given the nature of this forum, I suspect that many people are just compelled to have the newest phone.

I am not one of those people. I won’t replace my phone until I feel that a new one can offer something significant over the one I already have. That’s why I got a good three years out of my 6.

Me too! I still love my 6plus. I had to get the battery replaced, but that was it.
I am intrigued by a smaller phone but a larger screen. The camera is greatly improved and I am going to Europe this year and wanted to have a fabulous camera.

I just opened up an Xfinity mobile account, and in doing so with taking their $12 a month insurance, after a year I am entitled to a complete upgrade and they'll just assume my payments and start me on a new one. I probably won't get a new one next year, but who knows? I hope I like the X!

The X is so blasted expensive to own and insure through Apple Care that I imagine my husband and I will no longer both be upgrading annually together, and especially not to top of the line flagships. We will probably go back to me taking his hand me downs, and me shifting my hand me downs to others in the family who need them. I don’t know how often my husband intends to upgrade. I’m not thrilled about that iPhone notch or Face ID, but you know I’m going to take that hand me down without complaints, because by then my 7 Plus will be around 2 years old and the X will feel fresh to me.

While it has been fun for everyone to get new iThings for Christmas and so forth, getting hand me downs is fine, too, so whatever. My Mother’s Day-combo Birthday Gift was my husband’s iPad Pro from last year. He added a new Apple Pencil and case to it and it seemed like new to me. I love it.

I know the kids and the many in-laws had fun getting brand new iPads and iPhones for gifts when we could afford to provide them with that. But nobody among us is spoiled or wasteful, so everyone will be fine and understand if it goes back to hand me downs. Everyone is supportive of my husband getting the newest goods because he works hard and is very generous making sure not just our immediate family, but our extended family is taken care of, too.

Love your response!

You're a smart consumer !

6plus to 6s plus was totally tangible
6s plus to 7Plus too but less so but I appreciated putting the prototype back look to rest with matte black and P3 screen/dual-ish speakers and dual cams

Couldn't justify 8 anything. Too incremental

The X feels fresh at least. Hopefully I can stay strong too, assuming I keep the X :p

I upgrade at every chance I get as well, but you're right, the 8 was far too easy to resist given how much of a slight it was.

The performance of the A11 chip should keep me a happy consumerist pig for at least 3 years. The iPhones today are so good that there are fewer and fewer incentives for me to upgrade every two years much less one. In fact, with a price tag that nears laptops and even desktops, I'm hoping to avoid the disposable tech culture and hold on to the X as long as I've held on to my iPad 4. I might even hold out until the X stops receiving iOS updates.

But I'll probably upgrade next year.

Same here have 6 now for 3 years and planning on keeping X at wast 3-4 or until I see significant change. That’s why I ordered X.

Can’t answer this poll because I have no idea. Newly retired so my upgrade days are over I’m betting. I don’t play the lottery so this will most likely be my last year to get excited over a new phone. It would be nice if I could qualify to get into the marketplace because next time I need a new phone I might be looking at older models. :)
Up your posting so that you qualify. ;) The Marketplace is an excellent source for good Apple products.

The main question should be: ios. Are the future ios-es going to be optimized for these current hardware?

Apple, like Intel, and other tech firms, seems to be slowing their innovation and progress,

3g, 4, and 5 lasted 2 years each. My 6 has lasted me 3 strong years through a bunch of samey samey in feel and experience s-model refreshes.

I imagine the 10 will last another 3 years, if not 4.

This photo keeps getting me smitten. Is there any reason to believe next years won't just be an S-cycle (in addition to Plus X possibly)

One year until the next iPhone gets released. I pretty much upgrade every year.

I upgrade annually. Mainly because I have a strong appreciation for new technology. However, the iPhone X is a change I have been looking for since the cycle of the 6/6s/7/8 form factor and dislay. The X will only become more refined from here on forward. I look forward to see the enhancements for the 2018 model.

2 years since I'm paying for it in full (full price).
If I had one of those upgrade or installment plans my answer would be different.

Since I pay in full, at least two years. I’ll pass it on to a family member when I upgrade.

Same here! :D:D:D

I'm aiming for 3 years this time, since I promised myself my iPhone 7 Plus would last 2 and I'm already upgrading. In reality it'll probably end up being 2.
