I have to agree with you there too.. I bought a MacBook pro a few Years back an became a convert. Only problem was I like to game a little and the mouse acceleration. Did I mention the mouse acceleration? I hate to say it but it's 99% of the reason I needed a pc laptop. Even a ma specific deathadder mouse couldnt feel right in games.

My wife loved my MacBook so much we ended up getting a 27 iMac so all is not lost!

Did you try the MouseFix app? It made my mouse usage feel normal. Before that I hated it. I use a little logitech mouse now and I have no issues with the acceleration.

One could ask how many customers Apple has lost due to high prices. Probably millions. Somehow Apple managed to make 6 billion $ profit in previous quarter though, something that most companies can just dream of.

Generally speaking, a company can compete either on Price or on Differentiation.

When you have price competition between essentially equivalent products, prices head to the floor and the companies involved don't capture a lot of the potential value in the marketplace. Sure, they may have tons of customers, but each contributes relatively little to the bottom line.

A company seeking to capture the most value out of the market often does best to set itself apart by providing value to customers through product differentiation. This is the tactic Apple seems to take as compared to the other PC manufacturers.

Yes, this is VERY simplistic and there's a lot more to it, but it perhaps provides some insight to why Apple probably doesn't care about price competition or specifications competition. Design and User Experience are the areas they seem to focus on to sustain product differentiation from the rest of the market, and they're carrying that to the bank.

The reason I can't wait is because today and yesterday I was at work all day using my iPhone to keep me entertained.

It seems a computer is not necessary for your job. I would think they would provide you with a computer if you needed one, at least a temporary if a more suitable one is not available yet.

Apple has no history of Mac users jumping to PC ... compared to PC users discovering Apple in droves ... I personally have never met a Mac owner that decided to switch to a PC ... ever.

i had a macbook pro 15" 2008 model (which now belongs to my brother), which i changed for a toshiba qosmio. Tbh, the only reason was: boot camp didn't work , and i wanted some gaming in there. Why didn't it work? Because windows in boot camp uses the 9600m GT which overheats and shuts down. If i had the 13inch model which only has the shared gpu which doesn't overheat, i would probably still use a mac. But tbh, im waiting for the sandy bridge macbooks so i can sell my toshiba and buy the new 13 pro :)

Tried that app and it still didn't feel right. My biggest regret is selling my 17pro so soon. As usual i start reading the boards before a purchase and it took me a bit to get back in the loop to see a refresh looming and sandybridge. My pro was the c2d 3.06 w/ 128gb ssd. I pretty much got what a current i7 pro without options cost so it was a no brained to sell. I should have just got the current i7 2.8 and 128 ssd but .... Sandy....

Given the current timetable for the Sandy Bridge mobile processors (specifically the dual-core variants), I would peg an update for MBP's somewhere around the end of February or early March, knowing how quickly new Intel hardware tends to get into Apple's hands if Apple wants it.
But then again, I got the info on Sandy Bridge's timetable from Wikipedia, so who knows?

TBH, when I bought my MBP 13 late last year, I was expecting a bit more gaming prowess; not PC-gaming-rig quality, but enough to easily run TF2 (a 3+ year-old game and one of the few great titles on mac) without having to resort to optimizing scripts and lowering graphic settings in order to get it to run at respectable frame rates. But it didn't.

However, I really like the mac in every other way, and OSX is awesome, so I just compromised and ordered a Sandybridge gaming desktop. This is perfect since I don't do alot of gaming outside of my house. Just something to think about..don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, get two tubs:rolleyes::D

I'm not comparing the aw to the Mbp guys. To me it's the most appealing pc that has some good gaming capability. I know pc specs are usually better but I would have taken a dual core sandy 17 pro had there been any rumors or leaks so far. I just can't wait without a laptop and sandy bridge has so many advantages I wouldn't pass it up.

Thats quite a killing they made but Any customers they Lose to pc is money out of their pocket and they do care about it.

And no lol 8000 rpm refers to my motor in one if my cars. But I wouldn't be surprised if my aw fans hit that haha! On the bright side, I have about 2 months of no hassle return policy in case any announcements are made. At least I'll have something to play with in the meantime !

Did you really just call the Alienware a laptop?
I'd be expecting a laptop to have more than 30 minutes of battery life...

I'm just kidding ;) hope you will regret your choice of leaving the Mac side soon enough...

I'm just kidding again ;) ...

The point of purchasing a Mac is for OS X. If you're going to compare hardware speed, MacBooks are never really up to par with higher end/gaming PC laptop stuff especially in the same price category.

I'm more excited about OS X Lion than whatever the new MBPs are going to have/be/look like.

i agree, OSX is a lot better than the newest windows (xp ain't that bad).
But the macbook hardware is a big deal too. aluminium enclosure, every other laptop is made of plastic! even the white plastic macbook is a lot tougher than the other laptops. just a simple test, press anywhere in your laptop with your finger. it will bend down. macbooks don't! that's the beauty of it! but i really liked running Windows XP on my macbook.
What i don't understand is, why does it run better than technically-better laptops, even when in boot camp??

Snip

Why did u need so much power right now in ur laptop? What do u do with it that u couldnt wait a few months to see what apple came out with if u like macs so much?

His choice was really about gaming and no Mac will ever fully satisfy a gamer. I gave up on dual booting for gaming a few years back and now use dedicated Windows gaming systems. I could never really go back to Windows as my primary system but for gaming and programs like visio and access I still have to keep a powerful windows system in the stable.

Cheers,

Haha ya it's not exactly small. I returned the r2 version for a full refund a few weeks ago when I heard about the r3 and I'll admit I put it on my lap and I felt kind of dumb.

30 mins is probably accurate for most but with the r3 Dell claim 6 hours with optimis which isn't too shabby for a 17. I'm plugged in almost everywhere I use it so it really wasn't an issue but 6 hrs up from 45 mins is really nice.

I'm already regretting it lol. I just spent the last few hours watching YouTube reviews etc and building up a current i7 2.8, 128 ssd,8gb on the apple store. I'm debating on wether or not waiting is really worth it. Hardware wise I wouldn't be upset if sandy bridge came in and they didn't refresh the body and gpu but those are exactly the reasons why I'm afrad to purchase. A new exterior redesign and I'd slap myself.

I know osx Lion is set for summer.. I just hope they don't wait that long. Either way I have 30 days to play with the alienware before I can mail it back for a full refund... I hope to hear something by then which will be around march 14th based in estimated delivery time (feb14).

just use it for 30 days , send it back for a full refund and order a new one, then when the new macs appear, send that back too and get a mac :p

If you got 3000$ to spend, why don't you just buy the 13" MBP and build a desktop for gaming and other intensive tasks? Seriously, a ~1000$ desktop is more powerful than your 3000$ laptop. You paid a crazy premium for "portability" (usually those laptops are far from portable).

1199$ for MBP leaves you with 1800$ that you can spend on the desktop. That gets you a nice monitor or two, along with real number crushing power. And you get upgradeability! You can pop in a new GPU after few years when you need better gaming performance. With a laptop, you would have to spend another 3000$ on a new laptop

Here is one, thank you very much. Right now I will take Windows 7 over Snow Leopard any day.

I was sympathising with you until you mentioned that your iPhone no longer matched, that is just silly. If you needed anywhere near that much power, you should have realised long ago that you would never get it from a Mac. Alienware epitomises the differences between Apple and the rest of the computer industry so you picking the Alienware shows that the Mac was clearly never meant for you.

Ok it was more of a joke I love my iphone4. The only reason I have considered selling is because of the signal quality. Where I work I get 0-1 bars 3G and my friend beside me with a bb torch has 4-5 bars at all times .

I don't think it's fair to say a Mac is not for me. I think it is. My last Mac was perfect and I was happy playing wow on it at medium/high settings. I admitted I was stupid for selling it. I was planning to upgrade to the i7 which would have cost me tax for the same configuration. Then I found out about the refresh and sandybridge.

I already have a decent desktop at home.

This is exactly what I was going to say.

People who want laptops for gaming mystify me. If I ever want to do gaming I'll get a $400 desktop and use that.

actually i find amd's fusion a better setup than sandy bridge as the fusion does combine the cpu and gpu and the gpu is 6300 or some where near that look at the new hp dv1 as it has fusion wish apple would go to amd

lol ... I doubt you are starting a trend ... or will even make the Apple store seem less crowded.

enjoy the Windows view

Few people make some good points above I just don't see how it's mystifying as well. I'm at work 10-12 hrs and have the ability to play for almost all of it. Plugged to an outlet and on a desk. What's wrong with asking for a machine that can play games with decent frames? I can't exactly put my beastly desktop and 30" LCD in my backpack every morning.

I like to do stuff at work so I can come home and spend time with the family and not have the urge to destroy people in pvp (lol).
:)

I forgot to mention that online iMovie and iPhoto. Im not sure how I'll do without those 2 programs with the Mac. I'm not all that familiar with win7 but I'm fairly sure they don't have programs that come with it that are comparable.
