Lol no not a game designer or anything. I don't think it's really relevant to the topic but I'd say I'm pretty fortunate making six figures and doing what I do :)

Six figures and you play computer games all day at work "doing what you do?" Righhhht.

I cannot imagine you actually purchasing a gaming laptop, bringing it in to work every day, plopping down at your desk (or yacht or biplane or wherever) and playing 8-10 hours of The Sims. Then pack it up, call it a day and get your paycheck?

Raise your hand if you play computer games at work. Anyone? Beuller? Beuller?

no time for playing games at work ... that is why we call it work.

If I did ... I would have a Sony PS3 at work.

I was following the threads about why apple is losing customers due to Sandy Bridge and about lightyears behind.

Never understood it as I couldn't find any laptops actually shipping that have SB.

Personally I think the posters who whine about Sandy Bridge not being available right now from Apple are nothing but spec whores.

I too am bored senseless with the Sandy Bridge banter. I expect there to be a giant collective "oh, that's it?!?" when the SBs drop because people are acting like it's the Second Coming.

Madness I tell you, madness!

Finally someone actually posted this. Yes, Sandy Bridge is out, OEM's have it, but they aren't shipping it yet. Apple themselves have had it for quite a while now, but for internal designing and to begin production. Apple will be slower to the table, because they turn out a somewhat different machine most of the time, the core is not the only thing that gets improved. Whereas PC OEM's have a tendency to just refresh one component here, and then later in the year they might change something else, etc.

People are all worked up over the fact that the desktop cores are out, and they think that the mobile release coincided.

And the fact that SB has shown ~20% performance improvements, I don't think that 20% qualifies as "lightyears".

?

Apple have lost 1.34 million + and counting until Sand bridge is released.

Just kidding

nah, it's definitely possible. i have a friend who made six figures last year doing the same exact thing.. saw his 1099 the other day and it came in at $1156.27 for the year..

For me personally I really dislike the look of the Alienware laptops, they just fill every stereotype that mac users use against custom pc's in an argument, great big honking lights out of every orifice of the laptop, and it just looks plain ugly to me. When I had roommates one of them had the new Alienware laptop, the two lights on the front behind the fans would light up the entire room at night, and he had them flashing red, green, blue etc every few seconds.

Your friend was obviously on acid. Didn't you think it strange that he was always staring wide-eyed at the the wall behind the laptop, instead of its screen?

Lol its like how Honda civic street racers have neon lights, huge mufflers and then you have the BMW M3 which stock isn't a beast but can out perform many other cars that have better specs, more upgrades, queerer lighting, etc.

Yeah..I can see it "Returned my new MBP, sandy bridge isn't that great" or possibly "Not really that fast..*sigh..".

so I can mail one back and then enjoy the other in te meantime apple makes a decision

So let me get this straight...you had to work hard to get to where you are making "six figures" but...

You need your parents credit card to buy something.

I mean, my laptop isn't the prettiest of things, but on paper it's just as fast as his Alienware, apart from mine only having 6GB of RAM, where he had 8. But mine cost £700 ($1,100) less than his did. I guess I could install more than 8GB for the price difference, but I rarely exeed 5GB rendering HD video footage in Adobe Premiere for transfer onto Blu-Ray, that's as about intensive as mine gets, all the games I run on it have stupidly low requirements, (Counter-Strike Source, L4D, Minecraft).

As for this SandyBridge tosh, should I care, I mean my current i7 is not obsolete by any means surely? But how hard the term is thrown around, I'm starting to worry that I may need to care.

A question:
Do you think apple will put quad-core sandy bridge in the new macbook pro?
If not I will probably get a mba and a pc. I've a mbp 15 i7 and its too slow.
Most of the time I'm doing Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Lightroom and trascoding HD-Movies and some albums in the background while archivizing/splitting files with RarMachine for Upload.

Looks like a computer they'd have in the movie "Tron".

well the 13" mbp won't have a quad core but i'm guessing they will put quad core on the 15 and 17 models.

I hope you're right because the sb quads have the same thermal profile as the current quads and apple didn't use those. I think it's crazy they don't have any quad options even on the top end 17".

Cheers
