I've been tracking my new battery with CoconutBattery. For those of you that just joined the thread I had my battery replaced (under warranty) because it was bulging. The last battery was over 90% and had over 800 cycles on it. It's now been nearly 4 months and I have 144 cycles on it. It started out with 5484mAh it now has 5376mAh which is a loss of 1.04mAh per cycle. The new batteries are rated for 5020mAh which means if everything keeps going as it is I'll have 446cycles before I even get to the 100% mark. In fact at this rate this battery will have the same level of charge at 800cycles that the last one did. So all in all it's very consistent.

I've always had good luck with laptop batteries and I truly believe it's because when I use my laptop I typically pick it up and use it until dead/sleep before putting it back on charge. It never sits partially charged and very rarely does it ever get plugged back in without the battery being fully used first.

is this good?

Is this bad? I calibrated the other night. It didn't seem to help.

might want to take a trip to the Apple store.

my MacBook is @ 104 cycles, and is 10 months old - and STILL has 95% capacity

help me out is this any good or is this bad

That's the bad part. I don't have a local Apple store. It's over 3 hours away.

You can call them up and see if they agree that there is something wrong with the battery. If so, they'll send you a new battery, and you would send them the faulty one back. They'll give you a return label to use. You also need to secure the transaction with a credit card ... just in case you don't send the bad battery back.

After reading through this thread 3 times I've come to the following conclusion:

The absolute best way to keep your macbook battery healthy is to charge it up, let it die, charge it up, let it die.

This goes against what battery university and apple both say, but there are multiple people in this thread with lots (100+, 500+, etc.) of cycles who specifically state that they would use the battery until it died and then charge it fully.

I'm down to 86% right now on my 13" MBP - I'm gonna try this new method and see how it works.

3 days ago I was at 90%, and then my MBP died in my backpack while it was asleep and it sat for 12hrs and then I charged it and it was down to 86% :/.

After a few weeks of trying this method I'll post back with my results.

Oh yeah...

Cycles: 64
Health: 86% (4724mAh)

2.26 13" MBP

Info from Battery Health Monitor:

Original Capacity 100% (5,450 mAh)

Current Capacity 101% (5,490 mAh)

Charge Cycles 107

MBP is 5 months old, gets charged from flat (<5%) most days then unplugged until its around 5% again. Very rarely turned off, sleep whenever not used.

Really is a brilliant battery.

595 cycles, 69%

I don't follow any ceremony.... plug the charger whenever I need it...

I wanna replace it soon though...

BTW- are there 3 party batteries? any chance of getting these cool Polymer batteries for the old MBP?

1260 cycles on an 36 month old white macbook.
Battery 89 %.
In practice I get about 2 hours from it. Never intentionally "calibrated" the battery.
The battery in my Macbook pro early 2008 was dead after 42 cycles. I got a new battery from Apple, but I'm sceptical about it's performance.

My MBP's battery has 2.5 years / 173 cycles and it has just started buldging. I still get 3.5 hours out of it, but a new one arrives tomorrow.

Age of my MacBook: 32 months
Battery load-cycles: 240

Health: 102.1 %

Original Battery Capacity: 5020 mAh
Current Battery Capacity: 5126 mAh

Health: 73%

Cycles: 371

Age: 11 months

Battery reset: every 2 months.

Would they replace it or is this normal for 371 cycles?

32 months and only 240 cycles? Either you use it plugged in most of the time or it's sitting collecting dust. I got a new battery at the very end of June (old battery was swelling) and already have 183 cycles on it.

Well i think that is the age of his mac, earlier in the thread he mentioned something about a replaced battery; and that he doesnt leave it plugged in always.

I however have a tendency to keep it plugged in at home & work...which has always stayed at the same state since purchasing it back in May.

i usually get a good 6-8hours out of it on the 9400 and 5~7hours on the 9600 without bluetooth & wireless as i use ethernet at work.
i generally keep it attached to an external display at home so it varies but not too much oddly enough.

I thought I'd check my battery stats since i havent in a few weeks; lol I wish it lasted this long (its back to normal now, i think it was since i turned everything off and just let it sit..)

I've got an early 2008 MBP. I just calibrated my battery a few days ago, everything worked fine afterward. CoconutBattery reports that my battery capacity is 74% and 298 cycles, and this seems acceptable to me.

However, this morning I power on the machine and I have the dreaded "Service Battery" status in the battery menu. The battery works as expected, but I'm a bit unnerved by this. I've got an Apple Genius appointment for later today, but I'd like to get any ideas for best battery practices.

My typical battery usage pattern is as follows:
  1. 1. For the first week of owning a new battery, I charge it completely, and then discharge it completely to "break-in" the battery.
  2. 2. Afterwards, I charge the battery to ~80% and unplug the power adapter. Then I let the battery drain, usually only to around 20%, but sometimes I'll let it completely drain. Occasionally, I'll completely charge the battery, but not very often. (NOTE: This is probably not a good practice! A better practice might be to charge the battery completely, but I don't know.)
  3. 3. Once a month or so, I'll calibrate the battery according to Apple's recommended battery calibration instructions.

I have a mid-2007 macbook, and my stats are looking pretty good for its age. 342 cycles and its the original battery, too.

Does anyone believe this or is there a problem???

Age of you mac: 27 months (810 days)
Battery loadcycles: 628

Current Battery Capacity: 5136 mAh
Original Batter Capacity: 5020 mAh

I do still seem to get very good battery life, 5 hours plus with light use, 2-3 heavy use, I do run it down to 0, then full charge every month or so, but as you can see it nearly gets the equivalent to a full charge every day.

Maybe I'm just lucky!

PS. Hi, this is my first post, after reading and learning a lot about all things mac maybe I will be of some help to someone on here one day!
