Figured I'd post a differential between May last year & now April, 2010.

There seems to be a slight decrease, but so far going well.

My main 'strategy', is usually ignoring the 10 minutes remaining message, throwing a fit when it does auto-sleep, plug power cable in & rinse-and-repeat.

I have 11 cycles on my 13" MPB that is 2 months old (actually I've only had it 3 weeks.) I'm already at 5196/5450 = 95%. :( Hopefully it levels off. I try to only plug it in to charge it and take it off when it's not in use. Maybe I need to start shutting down instead of just closing the lid when I'm not using it?

Since I posted this, my battery had dropped to 93% capacity. I did start shutting down the computer most of the time I wasn't expecting to pick it up in the next hour or so. Tonight my battery is back up to 98%; 5378/5450. :)

Frankly it just goes to show how inaccurate all the battery indicators are. In reality batteries generally just don't suddenly "recover" suggesting that either your battery was fine all along, or 98% isn't correct...

Still 93%, 98%, neither is very bad.

I was just concerned initially because, well, I'm an engineer and I was looking at the numbers. If I'm down 7% in 15 cycles, doesn't bode well for their claim of 1000 cycles. I agree they don't recover capacity, but I'm wondering if the system just needed a break in of sorts? I don't know, but I'm more comfortable now that I won't have a premature failure.

I have 539 cycles, 23 months, 98%

This is for a plain white macbook, 2.4 ghz, 2gb ram

I mostly let the battery deplete until the reserve warning, and then plug it in till 100% (I rarely leave it plugged in overnight).

I have never done a calibration though, how effective are they???

just got my MBP 15 last week.. seems to me like everytime i use battery power, my batter capacity gets better. and when i keep it plugged in it gets lower. is this the same for everyone else??

also, just to make sure that i understand this correct, so after 1000 cycles on my my new 2010 mbp i should at least still retain 80% of my battery capacity?

The removable batteries were guaranteed to hold 90%+ charge for upto 200-240 cycles. After that what happens isn't apple's problem according to CS.

Yes that's Apples new specs for the internal battery.

barely at 28 load cycles and im at 95%

Quote directly from Apple's website.

The built-in battery in the new 13-, 15-, and 17-inch MacBook Pro is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles.

It says up to not at least. So 80% is probably the maximum amount of capacity anyone could expect to have after 1000 full charge and discharge cycles.

Also from their website. Bold emphases is my addition.

Exercise Your Machine
Lithium-ion polymer batteries need to be used for maximum performance. If you don’t use your device often, be sure to complete a charge cycle at least once a month.

hmmm... 80% maximum doesnt make sense, cuz i see a lot of posters on this thread with more thatn 1000 cycles on old mbp's, still retaining 90=95 % battery capacity.
and also ive read a lot of posts saying that you should take ur mbp to apple if its less than 300 cycles and its already below 80%

this is really confusing, someone please clarify this.

what does that 72% mean? is that what's remaining on my battery?
ive had my MBP for 10 months, would i be eligible for an upgrade?

72% is an estimate to how many more cycles your battery can take. It estimates you have used 28% of the number of cycles your battery will take. It probably means nothing and I would ignore it as there really isn't a true set life more of an average expectation.

704 loadcycles, 92%...

I've noticed a slight difference, but not that much. And with 92% left, I've got a good bit left.

When should I expect to replace my macbook battery. I would say 2/3 the time I use my machine (on almost all the time) it's from the adapter. But when I use the battery for power, I usually use the machine until the battery is more than 50% gone.

Right now my iStat says me battery has "41 Cycles". How many will/should it last? How much should I expect to replace it?

After 1.5 years of regular use, my Macbook unibody battery is down to 1 hour (was a bout 4 initially). I'm actually quite disappointed with that. That makes it pretty clear for me that I'll never buy one of those Macbooks with a battery sealed in...

Mine seems good to me :]

My old trusty black macbook had around 1100 cycles and yet it still had over 80% capacity according to coconut battery. Feel kind of bad now that I sold it.

Funny thing is, I really pushed that computer to the edge with regards to the battery. I never worried about the cycles or anything. Probably even had like 1 cycle a day maybe.

I guess that is the secret to keeping your battery healthy - using it.

My battery is a champ!
33 months old, 1299 life cycles and still at 92%
Rules I abide to:
  1. Don't leave it plugged in after it's fully charged.
  2. Let it go down to 5% before plugging it in.

That's it.
