My old battery had 200 some cycles and 20% health. I just got my new battery acouple weeks ago and its saying 94% health at 15 cycles.

Hmm... I'm sure this ain't healthy, originally it was 5560mA now...

How long is apple going to be selling brand new batteries for the blackbook? I plan on keeping this laptop for a long time, and I may need a new battery a few years from now.

Well.. Your can still buy new batteries for the PowerBook Pismo, though you can buy then in store, so how many years is that? And if and when Apple stops making then, there's always 3rd party ;-)

I'm on it most of the day, I couldn't live without it. I usually cradle it in one arm and operate it with the other while I'm doing stuff.

So I have 116 cycles, 10 month old Macbook Pro according to coconut. When my battery is less than 50% charged the health is 57%. At full charge it's usually about 70%. I was just using my MBP on battery when it was at 25% and suddenly jumped down to 10%.

I'm guessing this battery is toast. What's Apple's battery replacement policy? I don't have Apple Care. Will they just swap it out in-store or do I have to go through some ridiculous "we need to check your computer in for a diagnostic" deal and be a week or two without my computer. ;)

Well I just got it replaced. 99% health with 1 cycle. Lets hope this one lasts. ;P

do you run it all the way out before recharging? That is what I have been doing and I have close to 300 cycles and 100% health.

Coconut battery produces incorrect stats in Leopard.

Better to use Battery Health Monitor, or simply go to System Profiler -> Hardware -> Power.

According to Apple, a well-maintained battery should retain 80% capacity at 300 cycles (it's noted in a document on the Apple support site).

A few weeks ago, my battery was reporting 54% capacity at 300 cycles exactly. Went to an Apple store, and got a new one without problem (they used System Profiler). Heck, they didn't take my serial # or other information.

Hope this info helps.
Wow. That's quite generous of them to replace it like that.

Sometimes, sometimes not, it's certainly not uncommon for me to empty the thing.

A note to all of you using coconutBattery on your 13" MacBooks running Leopard: coconutBattery seems to report the MacBook's battery capacity at 5020 mAh, when really it's 5200 mAh. I noticed that it changed when I upgraded to Leopard. You can just enter 5200 in the custom capacity in the cB prefs and it'll work just fine.

Since mine's not dead yet, I imagine these things last a really long time. :)

My 5 year old ibook original battery is going strong....have no idea of
how many cycles.

Used mostly plugged in, but I estimate it would still give me 1.5-2 hrs.

People worry about their precious batteries far too much. Just use the damn things. That's what they're designed for.

Quite, considering the cost of the machine it's well worth it to use the damn thing as much as you can wherever you can.

I'm at 91% with 199 cycles.

My wife's 15" MBP was down to 63% after about 100 cycles. A Genius gave me a warranty replacement.

Hey Race,

this is off topic but just curious as to how it is done. how did you have this comment underneath your every post?

Before you test what your battery's capacity is, it's important to calibrate it properly:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86284

On my MBP (10 months old, 126 cycles), before calibration, Battery Health Monitor (also Coconut Battery) showed as low as 68%, even though I occasionally run it till the battery is almost dead.

After calibration, including disabling hibernation using Insomniax, and letting it sleep about 8 hours after it put itself to sleep (didn't have time to wait for it to shut down completely), it's showing 86% capacity - below on-track for Apple's expected 80% at 300 cycles.
