I bought my mac pro about a year and a half ago. I'd like an opinion on whether or not my battery function is normal, or if i should inquire about receiving a battery replacement from apple. Im also under their extended warranty (3 years).

Health: 57%
Cycles: 323
Fully Charged: 97%

Any advice would be great
Thanks!

You need a replacement

would this be covered under my apple care plan? or would the replacement come out of my own pocket?

sorry for all the questions, id just like to know roughly before i speak to one of the apple guys.

I would take it to an Apple store or call Applecare asap. They are pretty good about free batteries if you have less than 300 cycles with lower than 80% health.

You are lower than 80%, but a bit over 300. Worth a shot at a free battery.

thanks a ton guys:)
appreciated.

For grins I checked my Powerbook G4 12" 1.33GHz machine. I have ignored Apple's recommendation to fully discharge the battery monthly and it's "docked" 99% of the time as a kitchen netbook.

The battery on the 4-5 year old machine is at 93% health after 75 cycles.

From system profiler, currently have my MBP 17" for 21 months.

Battery Information:

Charge remaining (mAh): 2722
Fully charged: No
Charging: Yes
Full charge capacity (mAh): 5101
Health Information:
Cycle count: 601
Condition: Good
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 3251
Voltage (mV): 11756

 2 days and 1 cycle count later and Full charge capacity is down 3000mAh! According to Coconut Battery it's down to 34% of the original charge. I've had this MBP for 21 months now...I'm guessing this is no longer within the lifetime of the battery??

Battery Information:

Charge remaining (mAh): 2171
Fully charged: Yes
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 2171
Health Information:
Cycle count: 602
Condition: Good
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 150
Voltage (mV): 12599

Wow... I have had my MacBook Pro for not even a week and my health has gone down as well as my full charge capabilities! This does not seem normal compared to what has been reported on this particular topic. 5 charges and down 4% (based on istat pro), and down almost 1000 mAh capacity (if the full capacity is indeed 5500mAh)... I did calibrate this MBP based on Apple's recommendations also... What shall I do?

Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 4356
Fully charged: Yes
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 4495
Health Information:
Cycle count: 5
Condition: Good
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): -1281
Voltage (mV): 12256

Was original capacity 4600mAh

...

I think the new Unibody 15 Macs have lower capacity batteries (4600mAh) but I'd like someone to confirm this if poss.

Here are my specs;

Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 2975
Fully charged: No
Charging: Yes
Full charge capacity (mAh): 4641
Health Information:
Cycle count: 29
Condition: Good
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 1498
Voltage (mV): 11974

However I usually re-charge once the battery gets below 20-40 minutes. I think I will have to perform a full discharge to see what happens.

This looks good if the original capacity was 4600, but not if it should be over 5000!

hi guys,

ive had my macbook 11 days and my macbook is saying its had 7 cycles.

what actually is a cycle?
i thought it was putting it on charge when the battery is near dead. but i have put it on around 75% but it is still counting it as a cycle.

my concern is that it i can easily use the full battery every day, or put it on charge every day, but i will end up with 300 cycles in a year if that carries on.

any advice appreciated, thanks

did you try the applecare route yet?

You are lower than 80%, but a bit over 300. Worth a shot at a free battery.

So if it's under 300 cycles, under 80% and still under Applecare they'll take care of it?

If so, here's my story, kinda weird b/c I just checked Coconut battery today and it seems my battery has come back from the dead

Here's what the stats were just 1 week ago when I posted for the first time in a few months and found out about CB-

long time since I posted, but here's the stats from mine(sounds like my batt is dead)...

Maximum Battery Charge- 51 mAh

Current Battery Capacity- 51 mAh
Original Battery Capacity- 5020 mAh

Battery-Loadcycles- 211
Age of you Mac- 28 months

So about 10% w/ 211 cycles, now today it says:

Current Battery Charge: 3969 mAh
Maximum Battery Charge- 4141 mAh

Current Battery Capacity- 4141 mAh
Original Battery Capacity- 5020 mAh

Battery-Loadcycles- 211
Age of you Mac- 29 months

Which translates to 82% and still 211 cycles, not quite the <80% to get it covered by the AppleCare, but it might still be worth checking out as I need to have the MagSafe adapter looked at b/c the LED has been on and off and the stains on the trackpad/handrest are covered as well right?(it's a 1g from 09/06- under AppleCare until 09/09)

Here: Apple Support Page found with Google search for "battery cycle"

A charge cycle means using all of the battery’s power, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a single charge. For instance, you could use your notebook for an hour or more one day, using half its power, and then recharge it fully. If you did the same thing the next day, it would count as one charge cycle, not two, so you may take several days to complete a cycle.

i guess mine is going normal so far...i guess

so after talking to an Apple rep last night he told me to calibrate the battery, after going through the process it's now at a current capacity of 1813mAh(36%) and to further complicate things he said that they'll only replace it if it's OVER 80%

I thought the point of a defective battery is that it's under-charged at full capacity vs. adequately charged.

demonguard- how'd you get the screen-shot?

help!!

so i know nothing about what my battery should be.
Ive had my black macbook since june 2007 and here are the stats

Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 5160
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 5160
Amperage (mA): 130
Voltage (mV): 12591
Cycle Count: 327

and according to coconut battery..
current battery charge 5160 mah
maximum battery charge 5160 mah
100%

current battery capacity 5160 mah
original battery capacity 5020
100%
age of mac 21 months

Only thing bad is that you have some sort of super-battery going by the stats. Cherish it. Make it dinner. Build a shrine to it.

92% health, 675 cycles, bought in January 08.

Bought mine in January 08 too, but quite different stats. Just out of warranty the battery went from great capacity to refusing to charge at all. I'd expected the battery to last more than 15 cycles...
