So you bought it without searching real life pictures and/or review on internet? I repeat, I’m sorry that you didn’t do that but I think you have a little bit to blame yourself: in every single forum and in every single review is written that this year red isn’t a real red.
I didn’t buy anything. Just chiming in to correct your mistake.

And don’t say sorry (twice) when you are obviously indignant. It’s disingenuous.

Unfortunately not. I know. “Red” no longer means red. Silly me. Lol
Let’s be honest. This kind of joke manufacturing wouldn’t happen if someone else was in charge of things at apple.
If you’re going to make the color of a product a selling point I don’t think it’s unreasonable for the customer to expect the product to be the described color
It’s kinda funny and sad at the same time.

For the first time almost every reviewer from text to youtube video says that this year red is much more like coral. So if I watch Apple.com or even any picture of the lineup, I could easily tell, that this “red” is not red. Choosing this color and then returning it is really funny. Also blaming someone at the charge in Apple for your own mistake is also funny.

Sad is that because you are partly right. Apple should mark that color as a coral one. It should be described as much as reality is. I kinda have a feeling that you are not really returning it just because of the color, but maybe because its size. When you write about going back to 12, I think that you really have to consider benefits of those sizes and choose the one which suits you the best. Am I a partly right? I know your feeling, because I switched from XS to 12 mini, then return for a XS, after a month ordered 12 mini and last month my colleague borrow me his spare 12. This year was the hardest decision for me to choose an iPhone despite I thought that it would be the easiest.

I’ll accept zero blame. The next time you go to buy a blue product and it’s not blue ask yourself if you should be blamed for this discrepancy. Having spent a lot of time in France and Italy I am very aware there’s a big difference in terms of customer service between Europe and North America so I can understand your feeling

I don’t know man, before choosing 12 mini white I searched a lot of real life picture and after that I received what I have expecte: a warm white, different from ice silver of 12 pro. If you plan to pick the white, I suggest you to take a look to real life picture on forums before having the same problem.

I didn’t buy anything. Just chiming in to correct your mistake.

My mistake with quote, you’re right. Maybe I seem a little bit rude and you don’t believe me, but I’m really sorry for him: he bought something that he want, he pay top dollar for that and receive something unexpected and now have to face some difficulties with t-mobile to solve it. I’m simply surprised that in 2021 there are folks that spends 1k to buy a product without searching information about it 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm the happy owner of a 12 Mini in Black, and my wife absolutely loves her 12 Mini in green ( although she keeps it in a wallet case and you can't really see the colour 🤔)
A couple of weeks ago my dissatisfaction radar started to pick up traces, this coincided with the release of a Purple 12 Mini. My wife has a ( sparkly ) purple bicycle, and a lot of her biking accessories are also purple. I'm sure it's only a matter of time...

It is a hue of red, isn’t it? I mean the current red colour cannot be mistaken for yellow or brown or pink by people.

The problem is that it does not match your expectations of “redness” and personal preferences for this colour.

It is not only with red, though. For example, people are saying that the white colour used on iPhone 12 and 12 mini this year has a slight “pink” touch to it. The same thing looks white enough to me. 😉🤷🏻‍♂️ Same for greens, blues... any other colour actually. Our colour tastes & preferences are very personal, I guess.

In your particular case, it might save you a lot of time and energy to just accept this red hue this time round. Just think if it is really worth all the effort.

Dito, I checked every iPhone color review on YouTube because sometimes lighting is different etc. And some showed it as red but almost all mentioned it is not red but corol, depending on the lighting. Sorry, but if I buy a new iPhone, not even through some big shop with good service like apple or amazon, but through carrier I would check twice. I did try a normal red 12 and didn't like the size, nor the color, but I bought it through amazon. I returned it and even then I knew what the color was because I checked first. But it was 100€ cheaper than the other colors. This is why I tried the normal 12 in red before deciding for 12 Mini for sure.

With EVERY manufacture colors are different. No one has 100% red or blue phones but call it that. Samsung, Huawai etc. I am sorry too for you, really, I know it is annoying but this could have been solved easily by researching before buying. It is 6 months now, there are 100s of pictures and videos of red iPhones on the internet.

But a nice skin or case you like, it will solve most of the issues with the color as the frame is nice pure red imo.

  1. I initially pre-ordered a 12 mini but decided to swap for a 12, now after 4 months I've finally switched to the 12 mini. The 12 was just too big for me to comfortably use one handed.
I hear you. Question really falls into what are our priorities:

  • Size, weight, reachability: iPhone 12 mini
  • Bigger screen size for confort, battery life: iPhone 12

You can’t get both unless if you are coming from an even bigger phone (iPhone 6,7,8 plus or iPhone XS, 11 Max) then the iPhone 12 feels smaller and lighter.
As a note the iPhone 12 is surprisingly light compared to last year iPhone 11 (or any pro model).

I have the iPhone 12 and I am quite torn for getting the 12 mini instead but:
  • I got my 12 128g with a great great discount (actually a bit cheaper than an iPhone 12 mini 64gb)
  • My iPhone 12 screen is flawless and I am aware about this year iPhone 12 series’s screen lottery.
I can still buy the iPhone 12 mini from Apple (so it will be much expensive than my current iPhone 12..j and return it if it doesn’t match my expectations.

With 12’s screen it is a gamble (so I heard, personally didn’t have the issue) You have to prioritize yourself about screen size and battery. If you are doing fine with 12 I think you should stick to it (also price-wisely as you described). I still feels like that 12 should have 5,8” screen but I also understand that majority of customers these days want bigger display.

I agree 5.8” would have been great but maybe a bit too close to the iPhone mini 5.4” screen for an Apple perspective

You've been a member on these forums for over 10 years so you obviously have had access to the internet for that long. If color is that important to someone, I would expect that they would do a little research on what the colors actually look like before clicking the "buy" button. Just using the names given, "red", "white', "blue", "green", "purple", doesn't give you any idea of what the actual color is. There are so many shades of each that the name tells you very little.

As you can see, choosing the color by simply going by the name, is a good way to get something you might not really care for.

You don't have to accept any blame. My only question is, who is to blame for buying your phone in a color you don't like?

I know. Maybe they want to increase size from 4” and 4,7” to 5,4” and that’s why they also have to increase 5,8” to 6,1”.

Hi. In fact I am returning it because of the color. I already have the white on it’s way. I have a 12 pro Max already which is white/silver. My wife likes the coral color but I do not. This is a second phone which I am getting for trading my iPhone 6 in so the deal is decent. I’m a mega apple fan and have been using apple products since they’ve been around. I’ll be using the phone for multi camera recording actually.
..it’s just my gut feeling whomever apple has in charge of certain manufacturing decisions is not cutting it.

I don’t think it’s useful to say “hey you should have watched all the reviews before you bought that phone. Everybody knows apple is misleading you with the colors”. It’s far most useful to give them honest feedback

I have a Mini being delivered tomorrow. Been using the 12, but headed to the smaller size just for fun. I'm on T-Mobile, using Jump on Demand, so zero down payment or shipping. Can do another Jump after 30 days, if I wanted to. Definitely be ready for 13, or 12s, or whatever the fall brings. Got an Apple leather case on sale at Best Buy, and getting the MagSafe wallet on sale there, too. Looking forward to it!

Since iPhone X, there was never a white option. Only silver. 😉

I don’t think that Apple would change color based on one person who is complaining on Macrumors Forums. 😀 But if you want to give Apple feedback, do it through the Support. I think that’s useful to watch/read reviews before you buy something kinda pricey. If it wasn’t then nobody would do reviews at all. 🤷🏼‍♂️ So maybe next time you can be more mindful. And I don’t mean that in any agressive tone, just from what I read from you, it’s just been complains on the wrong spot. If you are unhappy with Apple product, complain to Apple. We kned how the 12’s red looks like and were “fine” with that because we can do anything about it. Only tell that to Apple. So I wish you luck, because maybe in future, thanks to your feedback, Apple wouldn’t selling 50 shades of blue for example. 👍🏼 And it would be a dream come true to me.

@ Stanza and prazakj- I’m not saying whether anyone is justified to complain or not. I honestly don’t care. But I will say it’s not a surprising mistake. Everyone buys smartphones many times in their life. It’s not like buying a house or car. Buying a phone, even a $1k one, is a run of the mill purchase now. Whether one approves or not, the vast majority never visit forums and watch tech reviews, the only normal research they do beforehand is looking at it in a store or seeing their friends’. But when stores are closed and people are isolated due to a pandemic, then they just look at the phone in the official website. And if something like color is not clear from the website, which it isn’t, then it’s not surprising this mistake would happen. Especially considering product red has always been a pretty consistent type of red until now. Outside of a pandemic may be a bit of a different story. But in these circumstances, it’s something I could easily see my parents and many non-tech-enthusiast people in my life doing.

I hear you, still - if you just once look anywhere near websites (where you also probably ordering the phone) you can spot the difference. Note that joker said that it was ordered through T-Mobile so I checked their websites https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone/apple-iphone-12?sku=194252028124 - with a whooping 64 reviews directly from customers. Including customer JJDD who reported wrong coral color with picture. You don’t need to be a nerd to find the right information. Sorry not sorry.
