E.P.A. Holds Back Report on Car Fuel Efficiency
By DANNY HAKIM
The contents of the report show that loopholes in American fuel economy regulations have allowed automakers to produce cars and trucks that are significantly less fuel-efficient, on average, than they were in the late 1980's.

That is incredibly bad. In the same time Volvo has doubled the mileage (KM) on the model I have.

Somewhere between 25-27 MPG on my '03 Miata with about an equal mix of highway and in-town driving.

With mixed city and highway driving I get between 14-15mpg. If you try driving the least bit aggressively, as in making shifts at 3,000rpm or higher (thats not saying much, 4600lb car with a 4.0V8 w/183hp) it significantly decreases the gas mileage. You can basically watch the fuel gauge drop to empty.

According to the previous owner, he got 18-19mpg on the highway, I don't know if I believe that, but he seemeed to be a pretty honest person. My friends moms suburban with a 5.3L v8 and a similar weight to my car rides at 70mph at unded 2,000 rpm, mine rides at 3,000rpm.

Looking around, many Discovery owners seem to get 14 city, 14 highway, and 14 while towing.

Our Other Cars:
- Dad's Discovery 4.6 V8: 15ish pretty much all the time, sometimes as low as 13mpg though
- Mom's Touareg V8: 16-17 average highway
- Jeep Grand Cherokee V8- Averages 18 according to the computer
- Dad's 1998 Cutlass (commuter car) - 30mpg highway- thats all I know

People could save a lot of gas if they would just take their foot off the pedal and coast between stop lights. I see a lot of people who are still accelerating all the way up until it's time to stop for the red light.

That's one thing I picked up when driving stick. Approach the light as slowly as possible so you don't have to downshift as much. :D

I've a motorcycle that does 225 miles with a 4.4 gallon tank (English measure)

So that's 51mpg :)

2001 Dodge Stratus Coupe (V6 Automatic) (AKA the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT)

Overall Average: 19.21 MPG
Best: 24.52 MPG (lots of highway driving)
Worst: 16.31 MPG (cold winter)
Average Miles per Tank: 313 Miles

I'm a nerd. ;)

Nice Car, shame they're not made anymore.

There was a bit of debate as to whether Audi were going to replace it or not in the future. I remember reading a while ago that it was going to be replaced with a more conventional car. :(

I don't think the A2 was all that sucessful in terms of sales, even though I personally rate it as the true successor to Issigonis's original Mini. ;)
