as soon as they announce the 6 this 5s is going up for sale have owned every iPhone since day 1 not going to change now

9-12 months is the average time I have kept all 6 of my previous iPhones.

Not I.

This is more of a bridge phone to get me away from Sprint and to Verizon. I'll then be deciding between the 6 and Galaxy S5 when they are released.

Rock star !

Sure, if you want to call me that. I have 3 lines on one cycle and one on the other. I make enough money to buy a new one each cycle so why not do it? Work hard, spend wisely, save when you can and open 4 lines (oh, and pay a crap ton for school and get a great job) and you too may buy a new iPhone each cycle.

LOL!

Fine then. Whichever one is newest at the time.

How many of you plan on keeping iPhone 5s for 3-5 years?

I bought my 5 at retail and am not on a contract, so it makes sense for me to keep my phone for a few years.

I'll only retire this unit under the following conditions: 1) Apple no longer issues software updates or 2) Battery/other critical component wears out and replacements are not available for me to install.

I've usually upgrade once per year since the original iPhone (skipped the 3G) 3gs,4,4s,5,S4 now to the 5C and have a new upgrade in April, will have to see what the S5, Nexus 5 hold... Hopefully I can break the 6 month pattern but I get bored quickly these days and if you can sell your device while current you can jump from phone to phone for virtually little money out of pocket

11 months give or take a few days. This is my first iPhone after having 4 Android phones since early 2010. I always upgrade on a yearly basis and this year I did not want the Note 3. I still love Android but not as my daily driver because you never really settle down with all the custom roms and customizations. Also felt that I was getting tired of all the Android models getting released every month. With the iPhone it's once every year.

You went from a 5 to S4 to a 5C? I have this hutch your going to jump to the 5s.

Yeah, someone at work asked me about that today when I saw the 5C in my hand. I actually like the 5C, I had no problem with my 5 except for the fact it was the 16gb, big mistake. Sold it and had nearly enough money from the 5 to buy an S4 out of contract, with the Best Buy promo coupled with a $150 gift card DirecTV gave me along with other goodies for signing up I got the 32GB for free (-$350 cancellation of the line) so jumped for it PLUS ITS ZOMBIE GREEN.

5C is also more comfortable in the hand imho, I will most definitely be looking at the S5 and iPhone 6 next.

Motorola actually had it first but it was crappy.

I meant of the Apple phones. iPhones are basically my only consideration for a handset now, to the point where I barely acknowledge other devices. Android OS reminds me way, way too much of Linux, and I think that Windows Phone sucks.

Apple is my only option lol

Until US carriers go to a rate plan that doesn't continue to have me pay for a subsidy even if I am out of contract, you will NEVER catch me with a phone more than two years. But in all honesty I will probably end up upgrading every year anyway.

I started using cell phones in 2000. I have owned exactly 5 phones since then. The first I owned for under a year and lost it (a Samsung flip phone). The second I owned until 2006 when it broke (Denso Touchpoint). The third I owned till 2008 (Samsung Trace), then bought an iPhone 3G, lost it a week later, and went back to the old one until the end of 2010 when I got my current iPhone 4, which I have been using for almost 3 years now...well not sure whether my refurb'ed purchase because of a cracked screen counts as a 6th phone or not.

It's a little slow at this point, and missing many features, but it is still very usable. I don't play games and have all of about 10 apps downloaded. If I got the 5s I can easily see myself owning it for 3 years. Once technology matures, the jump from year to year is much smaller. The main thing I feel the 5s is missing is 802.11ac.

Nope. Will sell in May (if the next iPhone is released in June), get profits, then use my contract upgrade, as I bought this phone outright from selling my 5 for $400. iPhone 6 excites me. :D

I plan on keeping it for at least two years. Once those two years are up I will see how it is doing and will make a decision based on that. Part of the reason being I always buy unlocked and off contract.

Nope.

I'm on a family plan with 5 lines. I have the lines staggered so every year 2 (or 3) lines are eligible for full subsidized pricing. Financially it just don't make sense for me not to upgrade.

I buy the new iPhone every second year. Started with the 3GS, got the 4S and now have the 5S since two weeks.

Mine works like a charm but when i'm reading through all those threads where people report there bad experiences....that scares the hell out of me!

5 years for a phone? Wow. Wouldn't even keep a computer for half that time. 1 year max, even though I try to tell myself I'll stick to one model for 2 years.

I don't keep my computers for that long, let alone mobile phones... 6-9 months at best..
