I just want my order to be shipped. Then I'll decide how long to keep it. :)

I kept my 4 for 3 years, so I will likely keep my 5s for 3 years. At that point I will be getting a iPhone 7 if the usual schedule continues. 5 years is really pushing it though.

Will probably upgrade to the Iphone 6 next year I have upgraded every year so far as I sell my old one to help pay for the new one.

Why do you guys call it an investment? The thing is a consumable. It wears down. Loses value. Requires maintenance. Monthly payment. It's an expense.

My first iPhone was the 3GS. I was on that phone for three years. It was tired by the time I upgraded to the 5. My next upgrade will likely be the 6S in a couple of years as long as my 5's battery holds up.

Three years is a long time between smart phone upgrades, but I'd like to get back on the S cycle. I'll might end up upgrading to the 6 though and capitalize on a little better resale value of my current model.

I keep my iPhones for a year at a time. I just but full price and sell them after a year and pay the difference. I have a really good discount on my monthly bill only paying 30 bucks so it works out in the end.

My first Iphone was the iPhone 3G and that was the only one I kept for 2 years and I only upgraded because the 4 was so beautiful and I had to have it.

Ever since then I've been getting every new model each year. I tried to stop and told myself that I would keep my iPhone 5 for 2 years but yet I still got up at 3am Sept 20th and ordered a 5S. So I've accepted that I'm probably going to be upgrading every year.

It's not as costly as some think since iPhones have such great resale value. My 5S cost $750 but the 5 will probably sell for $450-500 and cover most of the cost.

I'm failing to understand why anyone (at least anyone who posts here) would keep an iPhone that long.

If you're on contract you're just letting an upgrade go unused which makes no sense any way you look at it.

If you aren't, I guess I can understand keeping it if you paid full retail, but I would personally sell it every year, get the newest version and be out the $100 or so each year.

Had the 3G, 3GS, 4, 4s, 5 and now have the 5s and will get the 6, 6s and so on. Every year I sell my phone for about $450 a week before the new one comes out and end up paying very little to get the new one. Don't see a reason not to upgrade yearly when it's that easy!.

I kept the 4S for two years and just upgraded to 5S. I did sign up for AT&T's Next plan this time so I will get the next iPhone with no extra fees.

However I am really loving this 5S.. so I guess I'll just have to wait to see how I feel when the 6 comes out. I will probably get it though!!!

2 to 3 years for me. If my current phone is good, and nothing that is so compelling such as my current phone is damaged, not performing correctly, than, and only then I will purchase another before 2 years, which has never happened.

As much as I'd like to hold onto my phone for the next 2-3+ years, I'll most likely be upgrading to the 6 when it comes out.

When locked into a carrier contract, it really makes no sense to keep a smartphone for longer than you are eligible for the next upgrade/subsidy.

You're paying the same monthly fees for service regardless whether you upgrade or not or are in contract or not (at least, for AT&T, Verizon & Sprint type major carriers).

Unless you can't afford that $200-$300 upgrade 2 years later, you're really doing yourself a disservice by holding onto the old technology.

2 Years down the line I'm sure there will be another "perfect" phone for you. ;-)

I considered sticking with my 4S until the 6 next year. But for the reasons I expressed above, and for the fact that the "#S" models fix & enhance everything changed with the "#' big-change models and whatever may be wrong with their issues (such as the 4 antenna-gate and the 5 scuff-gate and apps adjusting for a new screen size), going for the 5S was a no-brainer to me.

A poll would've been nice.

I don't keep mine for too long cause I can upgrade at the discounted price every year. Otherwise I would wait two years.

Aside from the iPhone 3GS, Either iPhone 4S,5 and Motorola Atrix and Samsung Galaxy Notes 2, I haven't done more than a year, I can Immagine the same fate will happen when iPhone 6 will come out

Dont want a bigger screen and I assume there might be one. I absolutley do not want to go bigger then a 4'' screen I came from a bigger phone and hate it. Like the one hand operation

Apple is clearly sensitive to the size issue. Making a larger phone isn't a technical challenge for the company; they make iPads for crying out loud. Large is easy -- certainly a lot easier than small. They could've done it at any time. You don't need to be as precise with your manufacturing or as clever with your industrial design and layout with a bigger device. I honestly think one reason why a lot of the competitor's phones are so damned big is because the challenge of making a nice tight package isn't cost effective for them.

I, too, live by one hand operation. If Apple makes a phone with a bigger screen, it won't be 'large'. I have full faith and confidence it'll still fit nicely in one hand be fully usable by the fingers on that one hand while still maintaining a solid grip on it.

I was thinking 3-5 months.

Ha ha. Had my 5S gold for about 11 days and already at best buy store and almost purchased note 3 this weekend.

Waiting for nexus 5 pricing as well. Leaning towards nexus 5.

I'll keep my iPhone 5S for 10-12 months. It may end up as my backup phone soon.

Word

I've never kept a phone for longer than 6 months. I was on and off with the 5 (as all other iPhones) to check out latest of other technology. I'm picking up a Gold 5S shortly, doubt I'll keep for a year. Technology changes too often to stick to one phone too long though Apple seems to always do it the best so I come running back like a sad puppy :D

This is my thoughts exactly. I told everyone that I was sticking with my Samsung Galaxy S4. I thought that nothing could beat that 5 inch screen....then iOS 7 came out along with the new iTunes. Now iTunes Match miraculously decided to work for me after almost a year of fussing with it.

So...I bought the 5S and sold my S4 to Gamestop. Now I also come running back like a sad puppy!!:rolleyes:

I hope I can keep this 5S for a couple of years....but I know me. I know I will be drooling over the 6 and probably won't be able to help myself. :D

In 5 years we'll likely have the iPhone 8. Going from the 5S to the 8 will be like going from a tin can with a string to the iPhone 2G. 5 years in tech is like 5 dog years.
