I noticed there's lot of anger in this forum lately (well not exclusive to this forum) so i try to filter that as well.

Yeah, but there's currently a lot of reasons for people to be angry, whether it has to do with technology or politics (doesn't matter what side you're on). And the simple counter argument of "less is more" doesn't do anything but anger people more.

Lots of whining on here lately, but if you avoid the dumpster fire know as political discussions I can’t see really going the distance to ignore anyone.

It's pretty easy. Just two clicks.

Not what you meant of course, but it's literally no distance at all for me to use a forum feature to ignore someone that is pissing me off.

I may have already posted, but I am extremely forgetful...
0. Even if someone annoys me it's not enough for me to take the time to ignore them. There may be a time where someone annoys me constantly and I ignore them, but it has yet to happen

There were/are a few members in here proudly wearing the "I ignore a lot of people" medal. Once I realised that they were generally arrogant and disrespectful of the opinions of others, I've decided I don't want to be like them. The last one I removed from my list was one I found out that probably (luckily) my life goes on way better than his. Always bitter and angry and starting replies with "non-sense""ignorant""BS" and so on. I sure don't want to be of the same genre

None. Part of being here means listening to every comment, however much I might disagree with it. And while I do disagree with a a fair number of people here, discourse has been civil (albeit opinionated) and they would seem like pretty cool people to hang out with in real life.

I really am of two minds about using the "ignore member" feature. I'll reiterate that it can make some threads seem incoherent when not all the participants are visible in a scan of the thread, so I sometimes just leave and come back later to see if things have settled down and I can learn something.

On the other hand if I'm interested in the topic, then once in awhile it's worth using the ignore button to subtract for awhile what I regard as unhelpful input from a particular member.

Either way sometimes it's about subtracting one or the other of us for awhile. I don't always care which of us goes, and it's quicker just to bail out.

Absolutely - Often I go double check on my ignored users and/or just click on "show ignored content" and "enable the users again" ...

The ones that remain on the ignore list for me are usually the result of multiple instances of something annoying, unhelpful, irritating, degrading, or something along those lines, etc, etc

Now if only the ignore function would translate into the Forum Spy.

Scanning the list, I can't help but notice at least the first couple of lines… and those often enough to justify my earlier decision.

Anyway. Another added today.
Some people are just **** stirringly toxic and bring nothing to the conversation.
*shrug*

Agreed although there's always the option to throw in a reply to an OP that sends the thread in a more uplifting direction and might even call for a thread rename LOL. Laws of unintended consequence apply to folk posting trash threads (or troll posts) at least once in awhile. :)

I don't understand how this is a thread in the 1st place. What's the point of it? Pointing out divisiveness? Pointing out people being triggered and ignoring said triggerer? I don't get it.

In Site and Forum Feedback it's a given that there will be discussion and some feedback offered to mods and to others posting... it's what the subforum is for, really. Starts with a question or a challenge, gets some answers, some examples of why the answers may be insufficient, etc. and possibly concludes with some forum or guideline changes. At least it's a designated place to air grievances about site-governed issues,,,, without getting too specific regarding moderation (or one can even waive privacy and lay out examples of confusion about guidelines).

LOL one can always ignore the whole subforum... or stop following a thread... or use the software ignore feature (so far) to add to one's own personal trove of annoying folk at MacRumors...

Oh very true!

And just gave myself a clean slate by wiping out my ignore list — except for two.

I am tempting fate, and my responses have brought me a few warnings from the Mods, so… I think this cat has fewer than the proverbial nine left.
:D

I currently have 41 on my ignore list. My discretionary time is valuable so I don't want to spend the time reading posts from those who have a track record of bomb-throwing and trolling. I periodically review the list and posts from those people to see if they've changed.

And it has nothing to do with "being a grown up". There is nothing noble about having no ignore list.
