Android might have more RAM and other hardware bell and whistle. but I stay with Apple for the following that Android can't replicate the same or better:
  1. operate smooth
  2. polished app
  3. simplicity UI and hardware (for everyone in family)
  4. just work
  5. security (can't trust google data mining for ads)
  6. touch ID (unlock phone and app. convenient, secure and fast)
  7. apple play
  8. ATV UI and integration with ios devices (have Shield TV but Android TV app is lacking and cumbersome UI)

That's why I'd never commit to one ecosystem. I always use services/ apps that are available on other platforms. But I understand how people are likely to stick with Apple. I got a Pc. Probably will get the new MacBook and iphone

  1. operate smooth<< i'll give the nudge to apple
  2. polished app<< all depends on the apps you use im gonna have to give this a draw
  3. simplicity UI and hardware (for everyone in family)<<i'll give this one to apple
  4. just work<< i have to give this one to android. android just works no matter what platform your on even if your on multiple platforms like windows, linux or ios. (the just works) doesn't apply to apple anymore.
  5. security (can't trust google data mining for ads)<<android wins here since it's open source you can put all the security you will ever need on the android platform. the most secure phone is still the blackphone which runs android
  6. touch ID (unlock phone and app. convenient, secure and fast)<<note7 with retina scanner is more secure than touch id.
  7. apple play<<again samsungpay just works no matter were you try to use it. unlike apple pay which still doesn't work at a ton of places. (which points to your #4 just works. because it doesn't)
  8. ATV UI and integration with ios devices (have Shield TV but Android TV app is lacking and cumbersome UI)<<android tv is so limit less you can literally program an android tv set top box to get anything your hearts desire to watch. you can't do that with appletv

While I won't touch the subjective comments (since they are your opinions and I won't argue them), I just thought I'd point out Many android devices now have finger print sensors. The nexus 5x operates identically to Apple with the exception it's in the back of the phone. :)

I've only ever used the Samsung fingerprint reader but the Apple one is a lot better as it's more accurate. I get a lot of errors with the Samsung one on the S7 edge. It only works about 50 % of the time. I get quite often get multiple errors in a row and have been locked out 30 seconds on quite a few occasions. Samsung's home button is just not big enough. They would do better to stick on the back.

Samsung pay is not available in the UK so I can't comment on it. Both android and Apple Pay are in the uk and are available in the same places. However Apple Pay gets the nod because it's available on the Apple Watch and because more banks support it in the UK.

The 5x is really good. No issues whatsoever. I'd call it on par completely.

You see, there's the other problem. One can't expect a consistent performance on the platform. It depends on the device itself. A lot of the times android gets put down because of the experience on certain device.

same. i buy what i want - not what im force to. i have built my "ecosystem" to work with differend platforms. i have no idea what kind of devices and what im going to use in the future... lets say in 5 years? i cant imagine living around one company/services...

I've had an iPhone for nearly 9 years now. But after all these years, I have not invested into Apple only content - Kindle instead of iBooks, Spotify instead of Apple Music, never used iCloud email etc. For almost a year, I have been using a Nexus 5X as my work phone and it is certainly as capable & updated as my iPhone. For me at least, Android and iOS are at par now.

My recommendation, with consistency, is to just go with what google releases as their flagship.

I don't think lumping every single android device into one big jumble is a fair comparison of platforms, but I understand why people do it. Some just don't know any better (not implying anything particularly about you here).

Moving forward I would be surprised if we don't continue to see this and better fingerprint sensors in the Google "branded" flagships. Couple that with the amazing price points these things launch at and people are starting to see a true value here.

Yes I agree that Nexus devices are ultimate in terms of Android experience but then until even last year the hardware on those devices used to be subpar. General population don't think so much before buying a device. They just want it to work. I guess that's why a lot of the people find so many problems.

I think a lot of it, particularly in these forums, is that people are just unwilling to try something different because of preconceived notions of what that experience might be like.

We can argue hardware quality until the cows come home. IMO the hardware in the 6 plus was then dot subpar configuration in a phone I've ever owned. But I stood with it because I believed Apple would fix the problems via software. They ultimately didn't.

Regardless, I think we are going to see more people curious about Android if this year's iPhone rumors all stand true. I've just not been presented with a whole lot to be excited about.

Agree with that but I'm guessing Apple will do something awesome with the camera and people will get what they're looking for. Something "revolutionary".

I am not one of those who don't try other platforms and blindly side with one or the other. In fact, I have more Android devices that iOS devices to be honest. Experience is still better on iOS except for some specific things.

I'll be severely disappointed if a camera is the number one selling point, but I guess I can't have everything every year. :(

I want to switch to Android, but all my friends use iPhone. So I need to stay within the ecosystem, because I don't know if they have a text messaging plan.

I know people who have spent thousands in the App Store and iTunes and so they don't want to switch either.

Are you in that situation? Please explain.

My younger son (26 YO) and my wife both prefer Android phones but stay with iPhones because of iMessage. (My older son and I both prefer iPhones outright.)

iMessages is the most important feature for me.
Also I like to get messages on my iMac.

Never got the iMessage aurgument, texts are unlimited now.

1. SMS still have limited number of letters/numbers.
2. I don't have international SMS plan. I send 2-5 SMS per day to Toronto. Everybody in my company are on iPhone, but only one guy from tech support :)
3. agree:

People on Apple ecosystem always prefers iMessage due to seamless integration with other devices.

My parents are on iPads, they can accept iMessages from me. I get my SMS on my imac, ipad.

4. More or less secured than Facebook or chinese massagers and including "want to know , want to collect" Google.

5. Did you try to SMS T-mobile customers ? Most of the time is ok. But sometimes they don't go thru or you get 2+ same SMS with interval 10 sec-2 min. John cannot fix his SMS servers for 2+ years now. I think T-mobile have sooner a labor union rather than they fix SMS service. I don't even talk about MMS here :)

6. You can send contacts with iMessages m, with sms sometimes it fells apart.

7. iMessages work on wifi. With SMS you have to be on vowifi.

I want to add that in my company we have a shared Apple calendar. May be not a masterpiece, but with Android I have to carry a paper copy or the second phone.

P.S.:
NumberSync is also a great feature. I just answered a phone call typing this message on my mac, don't have to run like Bolt on the second floor .

I'm with Apple only due to their eco-system. Android is a good phone, more features, I envy Android users sometimes, but Apple is more convenient for me.

For me, it's not so much iMessage itself. Rather, it's being able to send and receive messages (both iMessage and SMS/MMS, including 2-factor authentication codes) on all my Apple devices. I've got 2x iPhones (AT&T and Verizon) and 2x iPads. I'm probably on one of the iPads 90% of the time and it's very convenient receiving messages via iPad when the iPhones are either buried inside my purse or left charging in the bedroom.

huh for some strange reason i can get it to intergrate with my windows and linux machines. how do it you get it to do that?
i had no problems getting my note5 to intergrate with both my windows and linux and my 1 ipad. but not my iphone i must be doing something wrong. because i keep hearing how apple intergrates well with other devices. seems the only thing i can get it to integrate with is my other apple crap.

Who said Apple devices integrates well with non-Apple devices? You want iMessage, iCloud, FaceTime integration? Gotta be all Apple.

well if that's the case then it totally sucks that's mho. i gotta be free to use many devices not just apple one's. i would much rather have synergy than to have an apple only ecosystem

I went to Android and with the next iPhone I'll be coming back. #1 Reason is apple has a better operating system and you can actually upgrade that OS. I'll never buy another Samsung phone again.

I went to Samsung (S7 Edge) only one month ago and I am already planning to get the iPhone 7. Android does have a lot to offer but ultimately iOS is much more smooth and reliable. I also have an iPad, iMac and MacBook so might as well go back to my iPhone! lol! This switch to Android is going to cost me alot tho :(

The reason I couldn't stay with Android is that hardware makers find one way or another to cheap out on the hardware. Sure, they add the fastest processors, waterproofing and the best screens. But they pair that with atrociously slow storage. Terrible digitisers with 5 times the touch latency of an iPhone. Stuff like that completely kills the experience.

Not to mention Google just can't seem to fix the random battery drain issues plaguing the OS. The iPhone might not have the same battery life but at least it's consistent. If I leave home at 100%, I always down to 55% plus or minus 5%. With the S7E, on some days it was 70%, other days 25%, for seemingly no reason.

My S7E is also has massive battery drain problems. And honestly I'm tired of constantly having to turn things off, clear cache etc to improve battery life. It's ridiculous....I'm going back to iPhone!
