Switched from Verizon to AT&T for the original iPhone and have had every model.

Stood in line at AT&T Store (5th in line). Got the 8 GB and leather clip case. Jail broke it shortly after, to change dock and appearance.

Just curious how many people here bought the original iPhone. I remember it pretty well, because it was the only Apple keynote that really blew me a way. On launch day, I lined up at the local AT&T store (the only place in the area that was supposed to have them) and waited for several hours. The staff were very cagey about telling us how many they were expecting to get, and in the end I had to go home with the 4GB model (remember those?). I later returned it (paying a restocking fee) to get the 8GB. I wrote a little review of it at the time, and it was interesting to read it again if only to be reminded of how many things the original iPhone couldn't do. The part where I tested how long things took to load over Wifi and Edge was particularly eye-opening. That thing was super pokey even on Wifi!

I've had the iPhone since the original and I havent looked back. I recently had to deactivate the original phone while I waited for the 6 Plus to arrive. That was hell.

Original---->3G---->4---->4S---->5---->6 Plus

I've been with AT&T for a very long time so I've had all the phones going back to the original. I just wish I would have kept them around for keepsake. I did and always have skipped the S versions though due to contract.

Raising hand: Was in line on Launch Day for the very first iPhone; switched that day from Sprint and some sort of Samsung flip-phone to AT&T and the beautiful 8 GB iPhone and haven't looked back. I've had all the iPhones on Launch Day except the 4S. Loved every iPhone and continue to do so with the iPhone 6 Plus!

I never started with the original cause of the missing 3G but swore that once they released an iPhone with 3G capability I would get one. When they announced the 3G that's where I've been ever since with the 3G, 3GS, 4-4S and then 5 and skipped the 5S for the Galaxy S4 just to see how the grass on the other side is. Then they announced the larger screen iPhone and here I am back again with the 6 plus.

While I've had 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S. I never bought them on launch day. However, I got a chance to experience what it was like to line up at the apple store on launch day for the iPhone 6/6+. So yes it was my first time.

My story:

Originally ordered mine online ( 9/17/14). Decided to check out the store on Friday. Went there around 1:40 pm, no 6 Plus available, but made a rsvp for the 6. 1 hour later, apple guy says they have some 6 Plus available so I changed my rsvp for a 6 Plus.

A lot has changed. I believe the rsvp pass stated when the 5 or 5S came out? Whereas prior you had hoped you get a phone you wanted.

Got the first iPhone on July 5th, less than a week after launch day. My wife said "Why are you paying $600 for a phone?" 2 months later she bought one.

Husband got the original about a month after launch. I couldn't see the point. Why do I need the internet ALL THE TIME? Why should my cell phone bill more than double? Wait, they want how much for a freaking phone?! No thanks.

Then he spent a few days in the hospital and that thing was the ONLY computer I had during that time--back in the Dark Ages, when laptops weighed 7 pounds and had wifi dongles...and hospitals didn't have wifi at all, unlike the one I'm typing from now. I got the point really fast. And when he was better, I didn't want to give my new toy back. LOL My own came in December.

Original > 4 > 5 for both of us. Still deciding if we want to go 6/6+ or wait for the 6s versions. The 5's are still going strong, and now I can't imagine life without a smartphone.

Been using the original iPhone too but not day 1. I actually got the iPhone around 6 months after release. I had a blackberry before that. Since then I've been using iPhones with some fiddling around with android devices here and there, particularly the nexus one (that was the best android device I've ever used) and atrix (worst android device I've ever used).

I believe Apple had some sort of reservation system for the 4 or 4S but I don't think it was a guaranteed spot?

Sprint didn't get the iPhone until 2011 and then it was the iPhone 4s, a phone I have a hate for. So, I waited a year and got my iPhone 5 on launch day.

So, sorry, I wasn't there in the beginning. I did spend years though hoping that the next year would be the year the iPhone would come to Sprint. :D

I was also a first time iPhone user when Sprint got the 4S. Curious as to why you have a hate for the 4S? It was one of Apple's best phones IMO.

I've had every one since they came out. The one exception being the 5c. Got the 5S instead. Today I use the 6+, so the 6 will be another one I can't claim to have owned.

2G, 3G, 3Gs, 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6(returned), 6+. Tried a Samsung S4 and BB Storm concurrently on different lines.

3G/3Gs cracking plastic. 4/4s antennae death grip issue. 5/5s chipping issues. 6/6s don'tknowwhatthe****peoplearetalkingaboutbending? issue.

Wouldn't use anything else daily no matter such minor issues.

All with ATT when they were still trying to get their network strengthened after the Cingular deal.

Now ATT has bumped me up to 20GB/month from 10GB for free, and finally added connectivity into the rural areas of Ohio where my sister lives, and that seals the deal. ATT/iPhone combo will last as long as I can see.

I hate it for a couple of reasons. But before I get into that, understand that this is just my opinion and I don't hate on others who use the 4 or 4s. It's just not my preference.

First, I don't care for cases. I believe that a lot of them are either fugly or make the phone fugly, or at a minimum hide the beauty of the iPhone. But because of antennagate, a lot of 4 and 4s iPhones ended up with bumpers. Some people made some really bad choices by going with neon bumpers IMO.

Anyway, to me, that just made the 4/4s even uglier. I do not care for that stainless steel band around the phone. I think it's tacky and I really don't like it. The 4/4s is bulky and the glass on both sides tends to shatter if you look at it wrong.

So, that's the first combination of things. The last thing is entirely juvenile of me, but it's my beef. I waited for and got the iPhone 5 because of the above issues I have with the iPhone 4/4s. The iPhone 5 was solid black (except for the Slate panel on the back) and reminds me of the monolith in 2001, the movie. It's also got a bigger screen than the 4/4s.

When Apple killed the iPhone 5 instead of moving it down like it had the iPhone 4 when the 4s came out AND then introduced the 5c which I consider to be a plastic inferior to the iPhone 5 (with no option for black) AND labeled the 5c as "new" it irritated me no end. The one iPhone that I bought for myself for the very first time and Apple kills it two years later BUT still continues to make the one phone I don't care for, the 4s! I understand it was a business decision and Apple is a business and of course, the 4s sells, but I still don't care for it.

So, there you go. That's why I have a personal hate for the 4/4s.

My list of iPhones: 2G 16GB, 3GS 32GB, 4 32GB, 5 64GB, 6 Plus 128 GB

I still have my original iPhone, the battery is dead and the speaker no longer works though.

My 4 was the most bulletproof, looked brand new after 2 years of use, with no case. I liked my 5 the most, but it was a delicate flower, again no case. But I really like the size of the 6 Plus for everyday use (I have large hands).

Picked up an 8gb original in January after the launch, passed on the 3G and upgraded to the 3Gs. Then, began a process of selling my phones to subsidize the cost of upgrading early to the 4 (still probably my favorite version of the iPhone - probably the first real "refresh" of the original) then the 4s (hated it more than any other iPhone I've had) to the 5 and then the 5s (2nd most hated). Now waiting on my 6+.

iPhone Power Rankings (from a personal enjoyment perspective)

1. iPhone 4
2. iPhone
3. iPhone 5
4. iPhone 3Gs
5. iPhone 5s
6. iPhone 4s

Yep. Got my original iPhone on the day it was released. A lot of folks thought I was nuts because it was too 'faddy'. I still have it somewhere. Gave it to one of my kids as an iPod a few years ago. Must have been thrown in a drawer somewhere never to be seen again...lost in the ocean of hair scrunchies and unmatched socks.

Just curious how many people here bought the original iPhone.

I've told my story before. It's here if you wanna read it. TL;DR: I was a Microsoft fanboy, thought the iPhone was a dumb idea, made a huge ass of myself at an Apple Store... and then ended up getting one, and every iteration since except for the 5c.

I wrote a little review of it at the time, and it was interesting to read it again if only to be reminded of how many things the original iPhone couldn't do. The part where I tested how long things took to load over Wifi and Edge was particularly eye-opening. That thing was super pokey even on Wifi!

I have to admit, I don't remember EDGE being so slooooow when it was all I had on my original iPhone outside of WiFi. But ever since 4G, when I've encountered it (on AT&T and on T-Mobile), it seems even slower to me now. Completely unbearable.

Actually, if I had to use an original iPhone again, I'd be so frustrated with it. Remember when iPhones first got cut and paste? The original didn't have it!
