I still have my 3GS which I bought on launch day. I have no plans for the iPhone 4, never have. I go on an every other year upgrade cycle. So I first had the iPhone classic and skipped the 3G. Then I got the 3GS. So next up is the iPhone 5.

My 3GS performs awesome on iOS 4.2.1 compared to 4.1. My battery got down to only 63% yesterday and that was with Skype running for about 6 hours along with all the other things I do with it. On 4.1 with Skype on for only a couple of hours I would have to plug the 3GS in halfway through my day to keep it alive.

Kudos to Apple for fixing the battery issues.

Hey Guys,

Just wondering how many people are still using their 3G's rather than making the leap to iPhone 4?

If you are still using your 3G are you planning to get the iPhone 5 when it comes out, get the iPhone 4 or stick with your 3G?

I currently have a 3Gs and am probably going to get the iPhone 5 when it is available.

Thanks
James

The single worst mistake I've ever made when it comes to Apple... is trusting them, selling my pristine 3GS and pre-ordering an iPhone 4.

The moment my iPhone 4 arrived, all of us who had pre-ordered were introduced to the debacle known as antennagate. What a shock it was to find that Apple had blown it so badly. I went from a very happy 3GS user to a very unhappy iPhone 4 owner.

But that was then, and this is now. I've relegated my iPhone 4 to a secondary phone and replaced it with a bevy of very fun new Android models. They've served me well, as I wait and watch what Apple does as we approach the next revision of the iPhone. I'm hoping they get back on track as my first preference is an iPhone to serve as a great companion to my own personal Apple eco system comprised of my MBP, MBA and MacPro.

Cheers... :)

So do you think you will trust Apple with the next Gen iPhone and Buy it or will you stick with your iPhone 4?

Good question....
Trust them, LOL... Me personally, I will wait for one simple reason; the camera.
The green dot issue is a big one for me. If it is documented it is fixed I will buy the iP5, otherwise I will pass on it and look to different phone.

I have the white 3GS w/32 GB. It's fine for now. I don't need any of the new features of the iPhone 4. I will upgrade next summer when the new phone comes out.

What I REALLY want is more disk space. Every time I get a new CD, I have to delete one. It's very annoying. 64 GB would be perfect for my needs. A bigger screen would be nice too, but I doubt that's coming any time soon.

How much stuff you got on your phone? My 3Gs is 16GB and I fill up about 10!

Maybe I should be asking how little stuff I have on my iPhone! haha!

80% of the disk is filled with music... mostly because I use 256 kb/sec encoding. I could reduce everything to 128 kb/sec and easily fit my whole collection, but it's easier at this point to just delete the crap I never listen to. If they don't release a 64 GB model next year, I'll have to start compressing more.

iPhone 5 will be very minor upgrade. They will probably add a camera that can shoot 1080P movies with faster specs. That's all I see they will add.

Every single iPhone 4 out there, without a case, will drop signal when a finger is laid on the antenna seam at the bottom left of the phone. Every single one. People who go "hurr durr I dont has it" are saying crap to make themselves feel better. It may not make you drop calls or fully drop the signal, but you lose bars quick when you as much as touch the seam.

So enough of this "i dont has it" crap. Yes you do.

I'm still using my trusty iPhone 3G. I was happy enough with the 3G when the 3GS came out so I decided to skip that model. I'd like to upgrade to the iPhone 4. However the 3G still works ok for me. I'm sure I'll upgrade to the 4 eventually I just don't feel a lot of pressure to do so.

I may be flamed for this but I'll have to agree. I live in a very strong network area easily pull 3mb download (I think that's good for AT&T) and if I hold my little pinky over the strip without a case, I can't even run the ping test for the Speed app. Whenever I see someone say the antenna issue was a non-issue, I don't believe them because I can cripple my phone very easily to the point I get no data. I'm not mad or frustrated, I just want to know why people disregard that simple fact.

That's because they're apologetic fanboys. There's this herd of Apple users among us that makes the rest of us look really bad. I know every brand has a strong following somewhere, but it's a special case with Apple. These people who suck up to Apple endlessly, turning every mistake into "a problem only a small percentage of people experience." More like "a problem that only a small percentage of users have the backbone to admit exists, and everyone else is a daft fanboy."

I love my iPhone 4. I got it a few days ago and I'm blown away by how awesome it is. But even I can't possibly deny that this antenna issue is a huge one. Overblown, my ass. In practical usage, I'll admit that it didn't affect me too much. Even though I got bars to drop, none of my calls were dropped. But when you use a phone, having to worry about how to hold it is pathetic. This is 2010, get with the times.

Anyway, that's enough ranting. Now watch as some guy will come on here and go "lol but i dont has it."

Exactly, Apple isn't a perfect company, it makes mistakes just like every company.

My wife and I still have the 3Gs. We were going to get the 4, but she insisted on white and I decided to wait till I could upgrade both at the same time. We all know how that turned out. After the white was delayed, she told me to go ahead and get mine, but I wanted to wait and see how the issues shook out. Now at this point, I’m just going to wait for the next generation. Even if the issues were over blown, it was enough to make me wait long enough that the “OMG I have to have the new toy” feeling pass.

My sister-in-law just got the 4, and she loves it. Playing with hers has tested my resolve. It’s a nice phone. But she has wicked bad proximity sensor issues. We’re updating it to 4.2 tonight so hopefully that fixes it. I’ll test her antennae too to see if hers is affected much. She hasn’t complained about dropped calls though. In fact she was just saying how much better it is than her old phone for call quality up in the middle of no where in northern MN.

Apparently 4.2.1 does fix it. I'm lucky in that my 4 doesn't seem to have this proximity issue, but then again I installed 4.2.1 before even making a call, so...

Also, I did comparisons between the 4 and the 3GS. There's very, very little difference in speed. The 3GS is still an incredibly capable phone. The only 'upgrade' that makes a good amount of sense would be from 2G or 3G (what I had.) Then it's a big jump.

I was able to get out of my Verizon contract about 30 days before it expired, so I bought a 3G when I came back to AT&T. I will be eligible for the next iphone and will upgrade then. I went through the whole OS4 and 4.1 debacle but 4.2.1 seems to be fine. I live in Atlanta and the network is fairly strong throughout the downtown area. I'd love to have a 4 but I refuse to pay $400 ever year to have the latest and greatest phone.

I have a 3GS as my sig suggests, and i have to say the only thing that would drive me to upgrade is the improved battery life of the iphone 4 (or if they came out with a bigger screen). Retina display and camera do not impress me at all

I still have my 3GS and it's great, I love it. I'd love to upgrade to the iPhone 4, but I'd rather just hold off for an iPhone 5 because theres only what, 6 months left in the cycle and because my mom won't let me upgrade right now. She might for the holidays, but I doubt it. She probably would though around Feb-May but at that point, I'd rather just hold out.

The 3GS runs iOS as smooth as iPhone 4's in my opinion, and battery is fine for me.

that battery's awesome. I can manage about 6.5 hours between full charges.
