It's convenient but there's still far too much reliance on the pass code.

Restarted your phone? Enter your pass code.
Haven't bought anything in the App Store for a while? Enter your pass code.
Haven't unlocked your phone in a while? Enter your code.

Hopefully in future updates they will remove the frequency of times I have to enter it.

In my line of work I am constantly entering areas that cell phones are prohibited so I end up having to leave it where others have access often. So I love the fingerprint unlock much faster than a code

I'm still getting used to it. I admit it is easier/faster than a code but I never used a pass ode before so things like going straight into apps from notifications are now slower.

Why would you even have a 5s if you believe this? If your theory is right do you really think they wouldn't just scan your fingerprint anyway whether or not you enable the feature?

Well in that case the would have to be logged into my phone for that to happen, but then I would know they have hacked into it, I think they point is that they try to be make sure you are unaware of them being there, however I know for a fact that apple can log into anyone's apple phone and do whatever they want, even take your finger print, I know this because when Steve jobs was alive he made a joke about logging into someone's husbands phone and seeing what he is doing or even block everything in his phone.

For those that did not use a pass code prior to your 5s, how long did it take to get used to the fingerprint scanner/passcode

I use it all the time and really like it.
I used to have a four-digit PIN that was required only after five minutes. Now I have a complicated passcode that's required right away.
Touch ID still lets me unlock my phone very quickly.

It works pretty well, but I was surprised and a bit disappointed to see that the fingerprint sensor is not activated by touch. You first have to press the home button, then release your finger, and then touch it again. I had expected the phone to unlock just by touching my finger on the home button. That would have been way better. Maybe next time…

While you do have to click the home button, you don't have to remove your finger. Just click, release button click and and keep finger on home button. I think it works really well and is pretty intuitive.

Actually pretty jealous of this feature.... I found on my wifes phone that I could push the home button in my pocket and it would unlock as I was pulling it out... all in one motion out of the pocket...

Like others, I don't use a password so for me this would be more of a new security....but I don't really go outside of my house much anmore :D

I've never used a passcode and it's kind of hard to get used to. I'm used to swiping to open texts and all that does now is bring me to the enter passcode screen. I'm sure I will eventually get used to it... although I thought I would have by now.

Yeah I love it although it seems to constantly stop recognizing my finger until I rescan it in the settings though

So if you never used a code before, why bother with the fingerprint?

You can press the home button and leave your finger there.

I previously locked my phone with a 4 digit code. Since I got the 5s, I always use Touch ID. It works so well and quickly that there is no reason not to use it. I also set a more complete passcode (I turned simple passcode off) since I won't have to enter it as much. I also require passcode immediately.

Yeah I use the fingerprint scanner everyday. Once I got used to not swiping each time I turned the screen on and just keeping my finger on the home button it's gotten much quicker to unlock my phone.

Holy cow! How could I have missed that? Perhaps what confused me was that Siri started when I kept holding down the home button. Anyway, thanks for the tip! It really made the whole process feel much more refined.

In previous iPhones there were issues with the home button becoming mushy. I'm a bit worried about using it too much with the scanner.

Also what do you guys do when you just want to check the time or if you have notifications. Do you accidentally unlock the phone?

Just do a quick tap or use another finger or thumb.

Using it all the time. Beats having to type in the passcode and iTunes password.

I love it. I push the button and just keep my finger on it. It unlocks instantaneously. Maybe a quarter second delay. It's wonderful. And i've had it for several days and so far it's been 100% accurate.

Anyone who says it's inconvenient or that it takes too long isn't using it correctly. Simple as that. At most it takes a small fraction of a second longer than having no password at all.

Yea if you're pushing the home button to unlock, then lifting your finger off of it and then putting your finger down again to unlock, you're using it wrong.

I now have an 8 digit password instead of the 4 thanks to touchID, absolutely love it and see zero reason why someone wouldn't use it.
