Do you not all realize this is a very strategic move by Apple to add countless numbers of Commercial accounts that require identification. My company, a major one, has already decided to go iPhone within the last two weeks. This is because of the iPhones security and Androids susceptibility to viruses.

I don't use it. And i don't have a passcode. It's faster this way.

Funny, I chose to wait and play with it later. This is my 5th iphone and the swipe is a built in motion from years of use. iOS 7 makes it even easier with no set line to swipe. The 5S is fast in general, so it's more of a choice changing the learned motion than the difference in time to leave the finger sitting on the button. Just My opinion, but it seems to be a difference of less than a second, so...?

Don't want to spoil the candy for those who are impressed with the feature. If things open further for this function, I'll consider it.

If I were waking my phone 50 times a day those milliseconds might add up. At an average of 10, it's perhaps a little different for me and a few other rare people who don't live on the device ;)

I actually was pressing the home button and lifting thumb to only put it on sensor again. :D

i was doing it wrong and this press and leave on home button is much faster. Wow

Thanks.

Now i love it

At first, I was skeptical but after a couple days of getting used to it... I LIKE IT A LOT!

I grab my iPad now and forget that I need to put a passcode in!

Agreed! I wish my ipad had touch ID!

I would think that everyone does!!! That's the whole reason everyone wants this phone! Ever since it was announced, it was a must have. Without it, it's just an iPhone 5 with a better processor and camera. I use the fingerprint scanner 100% of the time.

I defintely love using it. But i am so trained to swipe and enter code (i have had ios7 since beta 1), i still do it alot. That said, even when i do, i catch myself and by the time the passcode screen presents, i just use the touchID. Still faster.

And as an aside, I originally got a silver 5s on launch day. But i had also ordered a Gold one which came today. TouchID was fast on the silver one -- push home button, and then about half sec for it to let me in. On the Gold one which i just finished setting up, its almost instantaneous. I mean by the time the button depresses it lets me in. Not sure if this is just from a better fingerprint read or perhaps something else but not complaining.

The only issue I've run into is when my fingerprint is not fully on the sensor, when simply by accident I'm not feeling for the home button and my print is only half to 75% on, I get the "try again" message. But that is really rare in my experience, more like user error on my part.

Otherwise, it's a flawless operation.

Touch ID is fantastic.

It's so much faster than putting in your 4-digit passcode and even faster if you have a more complex passcode.

When I first got my 5s, I was deliberately sleeping my iPhone so I could use it!

I don't have my phone yet, but when I upgraded to iOS 7, I started using the code to enter my phone. I never used any type of security before, but I've seen a need in recent months. The security code was anly a minor inconvenience.

I'm sure once I get my phone that I'll love using the fingerprint scanner. It'll be a nice step up from a 4-digit code.

I was one of those people who never locked their phone because I found it annoying to have to key in a password every time. Set up fingerprint on first day and LOVE IT.... now it's even faster than without it at all (faster than turn-on-and-swipe).

I set it up but I'm too used to using the sleep/wake button that I find it to be less convenient.

You know that you can rest a finger on the home button and when you press the power button it will unlock the phone to the home screen.;)

I have never had a password on my phone. Never lost one.

Even if stolen all sensitive info is protected in Keeper Vault.

Do not want anything in the way of using my phone on every call and email.

Madness, pure unadulterated madness.

I was amused by it for about five minutes. Then I turned it off. Too bad though, you can't enable partial activation - don't use it for the phone access, but allow finger scanning for iTunes store purchase confirmations and alike.

Why would you turn it off?

----------

One thing I don't like is when you get a notification you have to swipe it and then put your finger on the home button

Why? still quicker than swiping and then entering your password...

Fingerprint

its one of those options that grow on you, once you start using it, then you can't do without it. I like it better than punching in home screen lock codes, even becomes covenant when purchasing an App or iTunes song.

I have the 5s and I don't intend on using the fingerprint scanner, because I believe there is no way that apple would not have built a backdoor to the chip so that they could access it if need be, however I also believe that since the lunch of the iphone 5s, CIA, FBI, NSA, MI6, MI5 etc would start asking apple to give them the codes, and if they don't say yes, they all will start trying to hack it, and it would take about month and they will all celebrate with a bottle of red wine and champain for their early Christmas present, which is everyone's finger print, which also empowers the Big Brother state. That's my theory so if on don't hear from me again or if this gets deleted you would know who did it lol.

Oh God.

Get a life already with this crap.

In previous iPhones there were issues with the home button becoming mushy. I'm a bit worried about using it too much with the scanner.

Also what do you guys do when you just want to check the time or if you have notifications. Do you accidentally unlock the phone?

All the time. Something I have to get used to doing is not resting my thumb on the button.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

Well.. It's kind of hard to do a work around this.. At least in my eyes. Cause if you have multiple notifications on your screen. You swipe one and you still have to enter the passcode or use Touch ID.

I think what would be cool is if you can just tap the icon on your lockscreen and scan your fingerprint it'll direct you straight to the app.

I don't know how apple will improve Touch ID features in future updates... interesting to see what they come up with

I use the Fingerprint scanner quite often. Just need to get use to not sliding my screen though! LOL

Also, wanted to share this.
He's got a great idea on the Touch ID thing for the lockscreen.

what do you guys think? around the :30 second mark. I think that would be a pretty good idea for a jailbreak tweak or iOS Update.

You can already do that. If you slide to unlock and it brings up the pass code window, just touch the id sensor.

Why would you even have a 5s if you believe this? If your theory is right do you really think they wouldn't just scan your fingerprint anyway whether or not you enable the feature?

Anyone have an opinion on this?

I don't use lock screen notifications, I hate someone else being able to glance at my phone and know that Tom sent a text, or Tyler messaged me on Facebook….

Thus, I get a sound notification for something only, not need to swipe then use the button. I am capable of using NC and going to the appropriate app myself and am not worried about saving the few seconds I would be swiping on the lock screen and being taken there directly by iOS.

I've used the scanner about 30 times since picking up my 5s earlier today and it hasn't given me a "try again" error once. I'm very impressed.
