How much are your cell phone bills?

Well, well, well… I just got a text from T-Mobile saying that my current plan is being retired and I am being transitioned to a “modern” plan with “enhanced” benefits. From what I can see, my price is going up by six dollars a line (two lines) and my hotspot data is going from 40GB a month to 60GB. My high-speed data in Canada and Mexico is going up from 5GB to 15GB a month - not that I use it. I also get a five-year price guarantee and I have access to the same phone upgrade offers that new subscribers get - not that I ever finance a phone through a carrier. I’m not sure they’re doing me any favors here. What T-Mobile has succeeded in doing is getting me to find out what the competition is offering - meaning a switch to another carrier is possible.

For the rare occasion when someone needs a phone number, I use VoIP.ms – my total expenses usually come to something like 1.10 USD per month.

This has to be close to a record for thread resurrections.

~$150/mo on AT&T postpaid for 5 lines, 1 watch (including taxes/fees). I almost always pay outright for unlocked devices in our house, and only occasionally finance through Apple for them. So device costs are separate and most people in my house keep their phones for 3-4 years.

We got a BYOD deal when switching to AT&T that takes $10 off per line for 3 years. Once that runs out, I'll look for a similar deal on Verizon or T-Mobile to try and keep this train going (had a similar deal on Verizon before switching to AT&T). Or I might look into prepaid deals at that time. That said, AT&T's service has been rock solid, so we'll have to evaluate cost/utility when that time comes in a year or so.
 
I ditched post-paid plans several years ago out of necessity when my financial situation wasn't good, and I stay with prepaid plans because I realized post-paid plans are a rip-off. I recently switched to Tello for unlimited everything for $19 per month for the first year. After the promotional year is up, I'll pay $25 per month. Seriously, switch to prepaid. You're wasting your money if you are with T-Mobile, Verizon, or ATT.

I only read the first two pages of replies, and was quite shocked. I’m using Tracfone on an iPhone SE, single line, $119/YEAR, not /month. I don’t even know what limits I have on talk/text/data, only that I’ve never gone over on them in the last six years.
And I was able to switch to fiber-optic Internet this spring, that bill dropped to $30/mo.

Beware of the 5 year guarantee ploy as with higher speeds and faster hardware data plan will go down and not up. 6G will allow downloading much faster and we all will be using less bandwidth.
 
I paid $180 for a year of Mint back during Black Friday. Will renew or jump to Metro (same service) depending on what the specials are this Black Friday.

CRIKEY those are some nice perks.

I'm on AT&T prepaid - $33/month + 5GB data that rolls over. Not been happy with them since I bought an iPhone. I have to call and wait hours on the phone, or go to a store to get my sim ported over (coming from pixel 9 pro with a sim card). Fun fact, waited an hour in an AT&T store only to be told I have to go to a different store to be helped. Soured me on AT&T, aside from their spotty data coverage out near me.

Gonna switch to Visible tonight, I think.

I have a Google Pixel 10 Pro on Visible. If you stick to the top two plans (Visible + and Visible+ Pro) your data won’t be deprioritized. I recommend Visible+ Pro if it’s for your only or main phone. Smartwatch service is included and mobile hot spot data is the fastest of all three plans. I have the middle-tier Visible+ plan for my Pixel and the hotspot data isn’t fast - but it is serviceable. Visible+ Pro’s hotspot data is 50 percent faster. Right now, Visible+ will run you $30 a month for a year ($35 after that) and Visible+ Pro is $35 for a year ($45 after that).

Gonna have to switch back to AT&T at the end of the month, I think. Visible is better basically everywhere except where I live. The curse of living in a rural area!

Had luck with that? I figure it might be worth it for me to change networks when I'm on the go. Otherwise AT&T is the only thing that reaches my house reliably where I can walk outside and have an active conversation.
 
I pay 5 euros a month (this includes 21% VAT) for:

Unlimited calls
Unlimited SMS
25 GB DATA
25 GB DATA EU roaming

Obviously I don’t get carrier discounts for phone purchases etc, but there’s deals to be had outside of the carriers anyway. So I don’t miss that.

Home internet via cable is 34 euros a month (which also includes 21% VAT).

Total for my family with 5 lines and home internet is 25 + 34 so 59 euros a month. I find that reasonable. Just waiting for the fiber rollout, we’ll see what they offer then. But the max will still be 34 euros I’m willing to pay.
 
Consumer Cellular, about $73/month for 2 lines with unlimited data (and talk and text of course, but no one cares about those anymore -- my god I'm glad to be past the days of $0.15 per text).

"Unlimited" data is of course up to 50 GB, then throttled or whatever, but we've never hit that, just use it without counting. We almost hit the limit one month, but we average about 30 GB per month. Heavy user of streaming podcasts (via Overcast)/radio (via Triode) in the car, occasional hotspot use.

The actual "plan" is I think $55/month (their 2-line AARP special) but taxes and fees ramp that up.
