Irrelevant. Buying it no matter what.. lol.
It might be relevant to you, but that’s just a very single minded view. Especially when people are struggling to eat, and to heat their homes and prices in Europe are extortionate and a phone should not be a luxury item, it’s a tool.

I’m not buying a 15 clone of pretty much any phone from Apple in the the last four years.
I bought a 14 pro last year.USB C is not something I want for £1000 plus right now. Apple are probably reducing component costs inside the phone to make it cheaper to keep their profits high, hence the possibility of hybrid plastic camera lenses, which will never be as good as glass and cheaper batteries and cheaper components they can cram into the SoC, so they don’t have to pay other companies components and also it makes it impossible to fix, but who knows once again I might be proved wrong but I don’t buy a phone every year anymore.

I’ve just bought a Mac mini pro, and a Apple keyboard and mouse because Apple computers don’t come with the basics anymore which is ridiculous, unless you get an iMac which is three years out of date at full price. Since my old Intel 2017 iMac which was maxed out, has just died on me (the PSU board still dies it appears) i’m finding it really hard to justify actually buying new Apple gear of any kind these days.

Here's hoping the increase in price means base storage of 256gb, I need an upgrade from my aging and dying iphone 11 after skipping the 14 pro last year. Fingers crossed

Wait... so you bought the expensive apple keyboard and mouse? I cant believe you didn't buy cheaper ones, or use the ones from your old iMac, especially when people are struggling to eat, and to heat their homes, and prices in Europe are extortionate.

My 3k mbp is vintage. enjoy yours while you can
Yeah I know that feeling my old one also got vintage status as well. But I mean the MacBook Pro m line is really worth the price because it’s just so crazy upgrade then the intel ones we had before. They are so much stronger than computer which had cost like double the price before, sure they are super expensive devices but they also give you a lot if you can use this for your job for sure. But iPhones are really just a gimmick, which all work great and I love them but in the end you play around with it 1-2 weeks like with any other phone and then it’s over with the playing hahah then there are some things which really annoy me it’s the bad camera which is terrible my friend haves an Samsung s23 and it’s like day and night the difference, can’t even compare reviews out there are just not accurate about that, iPhones makes better video but photos Samsung is 1000X better, and I say this as giant apple fan, if 15 pro don’t improve so much on that I will not buy it.

A phone doesn't have to be a luxury item as there are many inexpensive choices available. No one is forced to buy a higher end Apple, Sony, Samsung, etc. phone if it's not in their budget.

However, that doesn't mean a phone can't be a "luxury" item. For those willing/able to "afford" them, manufacturers offer more feature rich, higher priced "luxury" phone options.

Many products come in various price tiers from basic to luxury level. Why should phones be any different?

The problem with bumping up, for example, the base storage to 256gb and equally increasing prices by 100€/$/£ is that price difference between a 128gb and a 256gb storage is not 100€/$/£. What then does the customer pay for, when everything else is the same?

I shouldn’t be the only one who’s going to quietly (and unhappily) pay whatever Apple asks this year, but then see through all the cashgrab and see Apple as just a milker company. My passion for Apple is falling rapidly. I’ll have their products, but do so with caution - not just throwing around money to them whenever they ask for it. I’ll be upgrading when it’s absolutely necessary.
I too am starting to think more and more about moving to Android. I am very aware of some of the epic features that some Android phones have, that make iPhones seem laughably out of date. I have a friend with a Google Pixel, and he showed me some stuff that I was damn jealous of. And yep Apple makes beautiful hardware.

Gah. If only you could get the iPhone hardware, but with the freedoms and features of Android phones.

I'm currently sitting on the fence.

If I was a bored billionaire's son, I'd set about attempting to make an Apple alternate. With the gorgeous, slick, fast hardware, and slick OS, but bring back the "it just works", and open it up with access to the underlying *nix power (which iOS is built on, just like macOS is, but unlike macOS, iOS has it closed off in the name of profits above functionality), and thus, like macOS: a proper file system; and sideloading. I'm well aware that it would be a gargantuan, and almost impossible task.

No, I think consumers agree, which is why people aren't replacing their phones as often. If people were still replacing their phones every 1-2 years, and were willing to pay the increased price, then I'd agree with you.
Wrong. Millions agree that they want to upgrade yearly and do. They sell millions every single time with out issue flagship wise. 14 Pro Max launch day unit and I will be upgrading to the 15 Pro Max launch day as well.

Which retailers offer then up to 20% lower?
In Germany mostly eBay retailers offer the best prices. However, even Amazon offers typically between 10 and 20% on the newest model here and Amazon is fare from the best offers.

The only real exception are the first 2 to 3 months directly after the release of the new series’s. As I said, at X-mad typically 5-10% are realistic while after January 15% is the lower limit for discounts.

Apple is also expected to use a more advanced telephoto camera lens that will be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

A tad annoying if true. Apart from the screen size, I think the Pro and Pro Max should be the same in my opinion.

I’m sure there are a lot of bored sons of billionaires out there. 😂

The easy comparison is VAT vs. sales taxes. In isolation like that, the one paying a VAT generally feels like they are "losing" (by paying more). However, there's all kinds of other variables in play. For example, sales taxes usually apply to food and lodging too while VAT usually excludes those.
For example, if you live in a country with a relatively steep VAT, add in total cost of ownership over the life of the device. Americans pay a LOT for cellular service. On average it is $113/month per person (and yes fellow Americans, I know some of us are well below that- it's an average... which means others are well above that to make it reach that average). I've seen many posts by people in VAT countries where great cell service is substantially cheaper vs. even America's "bargain" MVNO options. Factor that in and owning a new phone may be a lot cheaper than it is in America. You simply have to include some time for your advantages to compensate to the one-time purchase disadvantage.
1. Wrong. There’s 19% tax on everything in Germany.

2. Apple, state, carriers are not the same thing; so the monies one pays do not end up in the same pot, to justify paying more for iPhones in Europe. Whatever Apple milks off European consumers goes to Apple.

Yep you are correct. And another point many are forgetting around here is the iPhone X/XS/11 Pro in 256GB was $1149. The 14 Pro in 256GB is $1099. So if we’re being honest, the actual price increase from a 2017 iPhone X with 256GB ($1149) to the rumored 2023 iPhone 15 Pro with 256GB ($1099) is actually $50 cheaper, 6 years later.
Wow, that’s actually quite interesting.

People need to forget about the 256GB of storage in this equation. The base price lowest tier option is what counts as that is the affordable option most will go for regardless of how much storage you are getting. Many will not need 256GB as they rely on iCloud. Apple have pulled a masterstroke of increasing the price, upping the storage which is pennies to do, and getting people like yourself to buy into it being a good deal. In reality the base level iPhone has increased by £100ish and you’re getting more storage whether you want it or not. Some will love it, some will begrudge paying for something they won’t use or need.

Price increase my a$$… everything points towards a price decrease, folks!!

1) acute lack of innovation on the 15 series (oh wait, I forgot the periscope on the 15 PM) - minimized cost of development -> price decrease
2) transition to 3 nm process - more chips per wafer -> price decrease
3) except for the new CPU, under the hood the 15 is largely the same as 13/14 - therefore optimized process, high yields from the start -> price decrease
4) lighter, better, nicer and of course cheaper material of the chassis -> price decrease
5) iPhone 15 non Pro: exactly the same as 14 Pro but no triple lens cam -> price decrease
6) and in Europe: strong €, yeeeeesss!! - prices can only go down further in good old Europe…

Be happy everyone! ;)
