I got my 17" MBP unibody in Feb '09 - still runs as good as the day I received it. It is almost 2 years old and I still think of it as a new computer. This is my first Mac - don't regret making the switch.

I like mine A LOT!!

This is my 2nd MBP; 1st was an original Apr-06 1.8GHz.. now I have a 2007 Model MacBookPro3,1 (2.4GHz-320GB HD-4GB Ram) All I need for a while yet.. ;)

Nearing the end of my Applecare, I had my screen replaced (had a couple of 'odd' blotches on it) and BOTH my original batteries replaced as they had 140-160 cycles on them and wouldn't hold an 'acceptable charge' by Apple Standards.. APPLE treats me VERY Well.. I will buy another for sure!!

:apple:

i got the first unibody mbp (in my signature), had it for 2 years, my first mbp. never had any problem with it, i don't really need to change it.
still as fast as the day i bought it.
my only problem was that to switch the graphic, i had to log off. but now we have gfxcardstatus, don't need to log off anymore. it's great.

A year and a half old, the 13 inch with C2D. It's my personal computer and I use it for work every day despite having both a laptop and desktop. I was offered to be provided a 15 inch MBP for work, but to be honest I like everything I know on one system. As of now, I see no need to update it and I plan to sit the next update out until quad or 8 core technology becomes more refined.

So overall, I love it and enjoy using it as it provides everything I need. Furthermore, it has caused minimal frustration and minimal down time and so it is hard to find reason to drop 2-3 grand on another when the existing works not just ok, but spectacularly.

another thing to think about OP
if you screw the next update, and start using your MBP NOW, you might be more than satisfied.
im assuming you are going to buy applecare, and lets suppose (lets just pretend/suppose/ imagine) that 2 years from now, you MBP is all messed up and you take it to the Apple Store and they said,"hmm. we cant replace this computer, nor can we fix it."
so what do you do, you wait a minute thinking hard.
the employee goes to the manger's office and comes out after 2 minutes and he/she says, "well i talked to the manger and he/she said that we will give you a free MBP, brand new"

now this is quite rare, unless of course you attack the applecare contract and find loopholes, etc and how exactly to make sure you get a new computer through the apple store, without paying a buck. but still if this circumstance does arise, which as i said we are "PRETENDING" than you got a great computer for free.
and if this does not work out and nothing ever goes wrong with your MBP and it continues to stay nice as speedy, well you got a beautiful computer and so you should stop thinking about MBP 2011.

This is my first MBP (2.4GHz Penryn-200GB HD 4GB-Ram) and i've had it since 08. It still runs like the first day I opened it. I'm taking this on my deployment and will purchase the new 2011 MBP when I get back. :)

I am an iOS developer and I have a 1st gen unibody 15 (Late 2008). I don't play games on it but occasionally run 3D software and this thing is perfect. I'm really in a bind because my wife needs a new laptop and I'm not really in need of an upgrade to mine.

2010 13" MacBook Pro
2009 13" MacBook Pro
2008 13" MacBook Aluminum

All have been great, especially the most recent one.

How old is your MBP and how much do you love or hate it?

My MBP (my first one ever) was my Christmas present to myself, so its not very old, but I love it. It is a 15" 2.9 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500 GB HDD and 512 MB VRAM, hi-res matte screen. It really rocks. It replaces my MB, 13" 2.4 GHz C2D, 2 GB RAM, 250 GHz HDD which I sold. This thing does what Steve Jobs said, "It just works." I still have an old 12" PB that I occasionally use. It still has all its original parts. No repairs have been needed yet. Based on that - I'm condifent that the MBP will be a great computer for the next half decade or so.

My macbook pro 13' is a year, 1 month and 10 days old and i still love it eventhough it's been slow on me lately.

I feel like I own the oldest macbook pro here. I have a late 06' MBP. Its still kicking very well. I had to replace the optical drive and battery but doing so myself instead of taking it to apple saved me $200.

I like it, but I am getting into photography and this machine is slowing down as it is. I probably will upgrade once the new line up comes out (I am hoping for some serious upgrades - could use a new look).

Also has some battle scars and wear and tear. But still running like a champ which makes me happy considering I paid $2000 for it.

Hey OP i don't want to be negative or anything but you really should return the current laptop and wait for the update. The main reasons being is that the next update will bring a much better resolution of 1440x900 on a 13" as well Sandy bridge. These 2 are almost guaranteed. It could also have SSD as standard and a new industrial design (slimmer ala MBA).

Now the last thing you would want with your brand new machine is buyers remorse and i guarantee you you will have it when you see that the money you spent a month earlier could have gotten you a much better and sleeker machine. I know having a brand new unopened MBP in front of you is a big temptation but don't give in. Make the smart choice

Got my 15in 5,1 in March, 2009 and it works like a charm. I have never taken it out of the house, using it as a movable desktop. I'm considering getting a MacBook Air to carry around outdoors with me after my Titanium G4 (circa 2001) falls apart.

at first I was hard pressed to believe this was a serious question until I saw you were a newbie here.

I have the most powerful mbp made right before the refresh to unibody in 2008. It still has 10 months applecare and it will be the first time I keep a machine for the entire length of the applecare. great machine as i still use it to power my 50" plasma for movies and hulu etc. But I also now own a mba 11 and use that for daily tasks.

OPEN the box

My mbp i almost 2 months old! and i love it i don't regret not waiting .. plus the i5 core is not such a big improvement from the intel core due. So open it already!!

Still using my late 2007 17" C2D MBP, its a fine piece of machinery.

Upgraded from 2GB RAM then, to 6GB currently. Upped the HDD from the original 160GB to 320GB after about a year of usage. Initially used with 23" monitor as desktop/laptop hybrid system.

Then bought a 27" iMac i& with 16GB RAM and 2TB HDD along the way, as a desktop solution. Now use the MBP for traveling, and as a couchtop at home. Have no complaints, thing runs fast as all get out.

C2D will last at least another year, easily.

Few months old, working great. Just ordered a data doubler from OWC. Can't wait! Should be here within a day or so. It should greatly increase my enjoyment because I'm a little tired of bringing an external drive everywhere since my SSD is rather small. :p I rarely use an optical drive anyway.

I own the late 09 13'3" 2.53ghz Macbook Pro, the only problem I have with it is that the GPU(9400M) whilst being plenty enough for what I need, doesn't give me very good frames on my 20" monitor on SecondLife (Although that is an unusually system heavy and badly made piece of software anyway).

I would also have liked to upgrade to a third party SSD just to satisfy my own urge for relative future-proofing and the speed bonus but without TRIM this is just unfeasible to me.

The Core 2 Duo is a stable range and will be around for a while yet, for people buying a new machine I'd say wait for the i series just for the sake of technological progress :p, but if you already have it then depending on your use,(assuming it's standard usage, emails, web, a few games, videos) then it will serve you just fine.

Also Macs have a good resell value if you decide to sell it off and buy an updated model some time down the line.

I got my MBP in 2008 a week after the unibody redesign. Love it to death. 2.53gHz, 4GB ram, 7200RPM HDD, and its still faster than many other new laptops and MacBooks. The biggest gripe I have with it though is that the battery life is starting to be terrible, I'm lucky to get two hours of use out of it. That can be fixed by buying a new battery, but still. I'm sure I'll use this computer for another 5+ years. I'm quite confident that I'll be able to use it throughout college with no issues.

I plan on upgrading the HDD soon. School work, 23GB of music and 10,000 photos in iPhoto tend to fill up the drive.

I have an early 15" 2.4GHz 2008 and love it. It's still plenty fast, and ::knock on wood:: has been trouble free.

I do have the issue with the discoloration on the palmrests, and of course the video could die on me any day now, but otherwise it's been great. I'll have had it for three years this coming May, so even if it dies, I'll probably just buy a new MBP to replace it. Or maybe a MacBook Air - I really don't need all the power of a Pro.

I love all of ours...2009 13" MBP..upgraded ram to 4gb.
2008? 13"MB aluminum...awesome computer
2007 13" MB 2ghz 2gb ram 80gb HD..bought it used on ebay

The pro is mine , she laid claim to the MB aluminum and I just got the daughter a used MB on ebay from an older gentelman who babied it. I personally like the MB aluminum better...just seems snappier than mine .

According to Coconut battery mine is 18 months now.

I have a 13" MBP (first version with the 7 hour battery). I love it, its completely set up to my liking and workflow.

I also upgraded to a 500GB HDD and 4GB of RAM so it is buttery smooth.

2007 MBP 15" 2.33 here I love it, just got in my 500gig momentus XT hdd to hopefully speed things up a bit for it, I shoot professionally and run cs4 on it without a problem. Not overly fast but it still gets the job done well.

i bought my mid 2007 MBP in Sept. 2007. the only complaints i have is the battery and the damn wi-fi issue (which i believe is a software issue that's being ignored.) other than that i'm perfectly happy.
