It really is quite easy, especially because of the new resolution (as everyone's saying). HD videos suck up crazy storage space. Though I admit I'm like... a hoarder when it comes to these things. I don't like having to pick and choose what I'm storing onto the iPad, though even with 64 GB I still need to. If you were smart, 16 GB is really all you need. Just add what you're currently watching/using and constantly resync. As for me, all my music and photos already takes up more than that.

8 GB Music
12 GB Music Videos (Mostly HD)
10 GB Photos
~15 GB for Apps (depending)
What's ever left for video - TV Shows, Movies, etc (~20 GB)

I have around 1 TB of videos though, so... I'm just kind of crazy. Most of them aren't even HD x_x

I keep my entire music collection (about 35 GB) on the iPad, because I find that it sounds better than the iPhone, especially when I play them over a bluetooth speaker. I also currently have about 7 GB of apps, some podcasts, and now I hardly have any room for photos, and absolutely none for movies. I'll be first in line if they ever release a 128 GB!

i'd go with 32gb and goflex sattelite harddisk to put my entire movies collection.

My first iPad I didn't sync a single movie, now I'm considering it as I gave a NAS full of movies etc. what does everyone use to sync and play the video files? I have mostly mkv and avi xvid files... Vlc player for iPad?

Just looked, I have

2.1 Gb audio
4.5 Gb Video (a small selection from a 400Gb video library)
11.9 Gb Apps, of which probably 5 Gb is stuff downloaded from the BBC IPlayer to watch on the road
9 Gb free at the moment, but often it sits around 1.2 Gb

I could quite easily, put more of my videos, or download more IPlayer stuff, or keep rarely used apps to take me over the capacity of 28.5Gb and prevent some micromanagement.

I use AVPlayerHD, it's played everything I've thrown at it. Struggles occasionally ever so slightly with very high bitrate mkv's on the ipad2, but I expect that'll be a thing of the past with the 3.

18.5gigs of music and 29 movies. i use my iPad as my deck and for my appletv. i can stream whatever i have on it to them(surround sound and flat screens). I wish there was a 128 gig i would of bought that. i have 320 movies in my iTunes account id like to keep more on it. I don't like removing and adding things that much. would be nice to have 80 movies on it for whenever i want to watch them.

In my case, on my iPad I have a LOT of audio (mostly music) and several movies and TV episodes. It adds up quite quickly. I'll never fill it. I always like to have at least 10% freed-up. When I pass 90%, I start deleting things.

If they offered 128G on the new iPad, I'd have ordered that. I did pre-order a 64g and will sell my old iPad.

For me, the real question is, with so many great apps, games, music, iBooks, audio books and movies out there, how can you not use most of the 64GB? I would have gotten the 128GB had it been an option.

Aside from day-to-day typical iPad usage, my iPad is also my stereo. It streams music via 'djay' over AirPlay to linked wireless speakers throughout my apartment. Therefore I want many (not all) of my iTunes playlists (that I spent ours sequencing) loaded on my iPad.

At the end of the day, no two users are alike - that's why there are storage options. When you have 250GBs of music, 125GB of movies and 20GB of Apps available to sync, picking and choosing 'just' 50GB (to leave a few gigs free) isn't as easy as you'd think. ;)

With home sharing I can't even fill my 32 gb. Prior to that I was pretty easy. I just share my movies now and I don't load music at all. Everyone has different uses though.

Lol hmm interesting, but I'm not tech-savy so this sounds complicated. Like, could I use "GoodReader" and download movies/videos using school's internet? Wouldn't that effect my iPad?

Example:
With my iPod Touch. If I download music using school's internet, I will have the music on my iTouch...

But if I go home and sync more music to my iPod, I wouldn't have the song in my iPod because I downloaded it, so it's not in my desktop, if you get what I mean.

And I could download videos from any web? (like Putlocker, etc).

GoodReader has its own internal data storage for movie (and many other) file types.

I go to a website with a "download video" button using GR's built in browser and it allows me to actually download it to the iPad which is something that Safari does not do. The file is then stored on the iPad, takes up some of that 64GB of memory, but it doesn't get sync'd to iTunes and show up under Movies. It's stored privately in the iPad, only visible within GoodReader, only playable with GR's internal video player.

You know how Camera+ or Hipstamatic store photos in the app instead of the Camera Roll? GoodReader is like that for video downloaded straight off the web.

45gb of my favourite movies, the rest apps, all music in iCloud. I was hoping so bad for 128gb

If I stored music on my iPad and not on my iPod Classic it would be very easy. Most of my music is in a lossless audio format. That's 40GB for me right there.

I've always had 32GB iPads (1 & 2) and while I almost filled them, never quite got there. My intention was to order the 32GB again this round but at the very last moment switched to 64GB and here is why: HD video camera. I never cared for the iPad camera before because it was fixed focus and low res. But I can see myself using it now, or at least experimenting. Also excited about using iPhoto and Photoshop, so need space for more pics too.

If I'm wrong then I wasted a few bucks. But there is no way for me to know until I try. I can always go back to 32GB next round and I'll get most of the $100 out when I sell as the used 64s typically sell for about $75 more than the 32s.

I don't put music on my iPad, but do carry large PDFs of architectural blueprints with me at all times. Currently at 56 gigs.

With iPad 3's higher resolution and faster processor, you can bet apps are going to get fatter, pics larger file size, HD movies will take twice the space, etc.

I pity the 16 gig crowd a few months from now. Your purchase is already obsolete.

Anyone suggesting buying the 16GB is just plain dumb. With larger apps, better pictures/videos, and full HD videos, you need at least 32. I used to say that I'd switch out movies and other media when I needed too, but it becomes a real bitch.

I'm going with 64, and that way I can have it all on my iPad at once with minimal management.

I have used up 33 G of my iPad 1, and I don't want to have to limit what is on there for about $100.

+1

Since many of us sell our last gen Apple products when we get the new gen versions two years hence, that $100 difference would return about $65.

So the luxury of having 64GB of if-needed space is equal to an out-of-pocket cost of $35.00 or $17.50 per year or $1.49 a month. Chump change.

If I wanted to, I could upload part of my music library to fill 64gb, but then I wouldn't have room for anything else.

how we use 64gb??????
50gb of apps and games. 1.5gb music. 3gb little movies. 2gb other stuff.
really a shame that there is no 128gb.
