yea im not really concerned about time, i have a month off uni soon. i now have GbE around the house so i can use other computers as well if need be. uumm what prpgram would i use for this? (visual hub is trial)

I believe there's a program called iSquint that has less options, but it should suit your particular purpose. It's the exact same interface though.

yea i tried this, it turned out the worst quality video i have ever seen and the sound/video sync where way off. the quality can be fixed thats just settings, but how would i get the sound in sync??

This is one of the worst sentences I've ever seen. Honestly... how old are you? Did you complete elementary school?

iSquint is a fine program. I've never had any problems with it and I've thrown all manner of codecs into its buffers. What settings are you using? Perhaps there's something wrong with those.

Really, aside from an extra "h" and missing a comma and an apostrophe, I didn't find anything wrong with his post. You need to calm down a bit.

If you want to do a lot of video conversion, I suggest paying the $23US for Visual Hub, it is an amazing program for the cost.

are you ****ing for real?? i just woke up and im pretty sure i can talk how i like, its the internet i dont have to be "formal". i am 18 and going to uni and in with the newer times, judge me if you will i am getting high-destinctions in every class. now lay off the abuse.

i used "h,264 encoding" "optimise for tv" and the "go nuts" settings, i didnt change anything else. tried on 3 different files.

EDIT: just had another look and the audio is in sync. the quality is crap even tho i did a "go nuts" quality setting.

What is your source file? Is it a 700MB avi or some-such file, or a higher bitrate file?

L O L. Thanks for proving my point. I'll lay off. Sorry, man. I seriously apologize. My remarks have no place in this thread.

Transcoding will give you less than stellar results just about anytime you use it. I've used high bitrate/ high resolution sources and had excellent results though they have obviously been change by the program. I think that the source material may just be too poor.

I'm not sure why the audio would be out of sync. Maybe there's too much going on in the background on the computer?

i wish there was a pass through conversion for avi>mp4. i know there is when doing mkv>mp4. im wanting to convert mainly so that the family can watch everything by connecting to my computer via itunes.

i got the audio sync working, must have been a once off issue.

Handbrake VS Visual Hub

I have building up a library for my Atv with Handbrake and have been overall pleased in video quality at 720p and sound in AC3, but I hear people mentioning Visual Hub alot. Sooo... Is Vis Hub better? If so, why?

I've tried HandBrake, but it doesn't seem to work to convert .mkv files. I really wish I had those chapter breaks.

You have to have data on the chapter break timing in order to get any chapter breaks. Handbrake does it by looking for the chapter breaks on the DVD itself.

Now, I kinda wish there was a tool to add chapter breaks to an existing .mp4 or .m4v file, but right now there isn't.

The best route to get chapters is to rip the DVD yourself rather than using someone else's rip that was downloaded or copied.

VH is a handy-dandy slicer and dicer. It's a shoe polish and a floor wax. It can convert just about any video format to a format of your choice as well as pre-chew your food for you.

I love it for when I need it. I use it rarely. BUT. For those times I have a two-sided DVD, or a two disc DVD, ain't nothing in the world like it -- as it converts, it stitches together. Yum. And when I need the rare conversion from DivX (may it rot in hell), there's little better or easier. Easily worth the $.

It doesn't do DVD chapters, though.

Despite my having bought it, most of my work is done in HandBrake.

Thanks. I was thinking thinking the same, but I guess someone had to confirm it to me.

PCs have their uses

I'm so happy that I finally figured out a nice and easy way to rip my DVD collection. I've been going through my DVDs one-by-one in handbrake and ripping them. One in the morning that processes while I'm at work, one or two in the evening, and one overnight. With a 300+ DVD collection, it's very tiring.

But then I realized - my PC is sitting in the dining room just resting on its laurels...and it has 2 DVD drives! So instead of using handbrake to rip the movie, I used my PC to simply pull the entire DVD content off 2 at a time, then I throw all the video folders on an external drive and have handbrake convert them all at once. It's marvelous! I did 14 movies the day before yesterday while I was sleeping and then at work! I should be able to finish my collection in a week or so now instead of a month. *happy dance*

Excellent idea. I bet that makes an amazing difference... depending on a few things, you might be able to make it even faster. When you're by your mac, use mactheripper to pull DVD contents onto your computer... when you have quite a few or you're ready to leave your computer, get the ones from the PC, and the ones from mactheripper, and put them all into your Handbrake Queue.

or maybe you could just directly rip them off your PC using handbrake?? (there is a PC version).

or you could rip all of the dvd's onto the PC hard drive, then locate the files via network and rip using handbrake using some sort of batch conversion??
