I have so much respect for those that have taken the time to tag seasons upon seasons of TV shows. I am sitting here trying to tag a single season(26 episodes) of That 70's Show and it takes quite a bit of time. I made a preset for the constant things about half way through which sped things up a bit but its still a lot.

Just wondered, how long are you talking with the spec you have?

the most annoying thing isnt the selecting of bitrates etc, its the labeling of everything. its really really hard!!! haha maybe im just lazy.. i guess so.

p.s. if you wanna offload some of that hard drive space ill gladly take some of it :p

All of the movie posters I use are from GetVideoArtwork and are 1000x1500.

Tom, I want to thank you! Thank you for that link for video artwork! Finally, a way to get consistency in my artwork, and stop searching multiple locations! This site is beautiful.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I'm going to go back now and redo all of my artwork with this high quality stuff... one question though. Is the easiest way to do this, dragging the files out of iTunes (onto the desktop or something) then into Metax, drag in the new artwork, delete the original from iTunes and then click "write and share"?

Or can I simply drag the files out of the iTunes music>movies folder and into MetaX? Should be able to do it this way... but I'll have to turn off the MetaX setting to automatically export to iTunes? Right?

That is what I'm doing, tagging in Metax.

My 1TB drive connected via AEBS with over 2600 TV episodes and 150 movies started failing on me last night. I managed to get it connected to my MBP and repaired permissions and am now doing a current backup just in case. If I have to redo all my TV shows, I might end up in the loony bin.

Newappleboy, I feel your pain... although my situation isn't as bad. Just two nights ago my 750GB iomega drive started making a HORRIBLE sound. It is definitely toast. And it's only 3 months old!

Luckily though, this was my Time Machine drive. It's a backup of my computer. Don't you have at least one back up of the drive that's dying? I made a commitment a few months ago to ALWAYS have at LEAST two copies of all of my files. The only thing this won't cover is if I have a natural disaster or fire... or if both the original drive and backup drives die at the same time.

I find of those events to be within acceptable risk levels for the time being, although that may change in upcoming years. An off-site backup would be a VERY good idea.

In case anyone cares, I contacted iomega and my two options were to wait 2-4 weeks for a new one, or pay $25 to have a new one sent right away. I went with the $25 option. They are including the postage to send the old drive back to their warehouse.

I was slightly upset that I had to pay anything at all. But it was better than waiting a month for a replacement! I am anxious/nervous to get it back to I can get all of my data backed up again!

My problem is that I don't enough money to buy an extra terabyte drive at the moment. I do have one extra one that I use for other data, but for the moment it will be used as my media backup until I can be sure the original is in working order. As it is, I only had 1.6 GB free. :p I'm in the process of moving my movies off that drive and onto a 500 GB that I have lying around, that way I can free up some space for more TV shows and also keep my movies on their own drive.

I totally understand the $ thing... Prices have come way down, but not nearly fast enough for this hobby (ripping DVDs). I made a promise to myself that I would delete less used files before I would make data that isn't backed up... only because it takes so much time and effort to make the files.

On a related note, anyone have an extra $900 laying around I can use to get a new drobo with 3 1GB drives? :D

*jumps up and down* Ooohh!! Me too! I want one. But why stop short? I'd like mine to have 4 1GB drives. I'm currently accepting applicants for sugar daddies. Current I have had 0 turned in. I'm holding onto hope though!

Oh go for it. But nobody would ever see the prettiness that is the Drobo; surely your gorgeous new desk would have a Drobo Drawer?

Haha, no... no drobo drawer. The hidden drawer is only large enough to fit regular sized hard drives. I would connect the drobo up through AEBS like you did with your external. It would be my Time Machine drive backing up ALL THE REST of my drives.

i hope you mean 4 x 1tb drives :p. otherwise you might have to span drives just for one movie like installing Word on floppy disks hahahahaa

Working on getting all my movies onto my MBP, and eventually overflowing onto an external drive. All my movies are encoded using handbrake's appletv setting, but at 3000 quality, and some small changes in the picture settings. I only have 180gb left on my MBP :( hahaha

For those of you that say tagging is hard, you know if your movie is in itunes, you can copy the info from the ITMS into metax, right?

Just search for your movie in the itunes store, right click on the movie, then select "Show description". Then select the text and go command c. That's what I have done for all my movies and tv shows that are available on the store. That description box shows the summary and actor/director information.

i dont like using the IMDB information because the description gets clipped because its waaaayyyy too long. however the information they have is very handy and accurate, easy to get aswell!

haha Of course I did. Thanks. That's what I get while posting in the middle of work when my concentration is elsewhere. Ssshh...don't tell my boss.

Quick question about movies in iTunes - sorry if this has been discussed already, but 25 pages of comments with screenshots is a lot to look through! I'm planning on importing all my movies and tv shows sometime soon, so I was wondering, does having sooo much data noticeably slow down iTunes and/or the whole computer when it's running?

Depends, Internal or External drive? Internal I've found yes, External nope.

nope not at all, as long as it aint USB hahaha

Heres my question:

How are you guys importing your DVDs into iTunes, and at what quality setting?

Are you watching strictly on your computer, or are you using Apple TV, Xbox, etc?
