nope not at all, as long as it aint USB hahaha
Hmm, so, seems like a firewire external would be fastest. But of the other two kinds, which would you say is better - an internal or usb external? Just curious.

How are you guys importing your DVDs into iTunes, and at what quality setting?
Are you watching strictly on your computer, or are you using Apple TV, Xbox, etc?

My friend and I have spent a very long time experimenting with different settings in Handbrake to determine what we consider the best possible format (for our uses at least). We wanted a single video file that would both work on iPods, look good on larger screens (we've tried up to 50" plasma and 113" projector), and a fairly small file size. Using these parameters and a lot of small test videos, I have come up with presets that work extremely well.
Keep in mind, I work mainly with TV shows, but the widescreen settings should work fine for movies.
For widescreen live-action TV shows:
x264 (h.264 iPod) encoder
Average bitrate: 1500
2-pass encoding with Turbo first pass
Output size: 640 width
Deinterlace: Slow
Detelecine: Yes, if applicable (I have found it eliminates choppy playback on Scrubs and Friends)
Advanced Settings (all but the following set to default):
Motion Estimation Method: Uneven Multi-Hexagon
For 4:3 live-action TV shows:
Same as above, but frame size can be left at full 640x480
For animated TV shows:
Same as live-action, but Denoise can be set up to medium (This helps to eliminate some macroblocking)
These settings work extremely well for all of the uses I've tried. The resulting files are around 250MB for 1/2hr TV shows, 500MB for 1hr TV shows. Like I said before, I've watched them before on very large screens and they look pretty good, and I routinely watch them on my 20" monitor and they look just as good as DVDs played with DVD Player.
if your after portability i would say internal, but if your going to have movies/musik on it etc i would definately say external just because it would have a tendancy to last longer + it wouldnt slow down your system as much..
Yeah, I'd rather have the portability... just hope it doesn't slow things down *too* much...
Would not having iTunes open all the time help things? Or would the presence of these files on my drive alone cause slowness?
leaving itunes open all the time wouldn't effect anything. however i would make sure to get a 7200RPM drive, otherwise then you may see slight pauses when doing things such as playing a movie and working on something else, which can be a pain in the butt.
if you just have itunes open doing nothing the only slowdown it will cause is mainly RAM (which would only be noticeable if you ran out of the stuff which is hard to do). if you have less that 10gb-15gb on your hard drive then it will definately cause some problems. as long as you stay above this mark then i think you will not notice any slow downs at all.
i dont like using the IMDB information because the description gets clipped because its waaaayyyy too long. however the information they have is very handy and accurate, easy to get aswell!
I'm copying from the ITMS, not the IMDB.
Oh whats that one like? Ive never heard of it haha . I will have to check it out. Thanks man!

Sad face because it took an absolute age to do it!![]()
It's a Photoshop case and I slip the dvd covers into the document and output with .png. Needless to say I scanned them all in myself [from my collection] - wasn't happy enough with the workload so thought I'd give myself more...
As much as I'd love to, I can't take credit for the document. I was looking around for a tutorial on how to make one and managed to find one already made.

Reason I did it was because I was getting annoyed with the faded/damaged edges that dvd cover slips seem to have. It's always visible against the background.
