I am aware it’s not the same video. The insults don’t help your argument either. You’re doing the exact same thing the poster you commented on is doing. Posting endless “real world” videos that ultimately make no difference. You should try adopting your “don’t get bitter, get better” mantra. You sound bitter.

I didn't tell the guy to stop posting endless videos. I told him to stop posting the same video. Dang, I even broke down my post for you. Alas, I can't help you any further with reading comprehension. You're on your own from here my friend.

They’re all irrelevant, but whatever makes you feel better.

The comparison of the Note line to iPhone X is kind of dumb because the Note does a lot of things that the X can't. It makes more sense to compare it to the S line which is its direct competitor.

Yea the stuttering and general UI weirdness was what I noticed. As with any hardware, I’m sure they’ll provide software updates to fix the problem. I don’t get the file system part as I store all my files in iCloud Drive and use the Files app. Everything is easy to manage from there. I don’t ever think about a file system, aside from accessing or manipulating things on my server from my iPad. Face ID and no headphone jack are here to stay so it just may not be a good fit for you. If I were you though, I’d grab an X Plus when they come out and give it a fair shot. You may be surprised how good it can be if you just take it for what it is. Tinkering ultimately gets old.

I'm not really fond of the idea of my files in the cloud. The idea of having to pay to have access to my own files doesn't really sit well with me. I'm currently using something similair to a cloud (wdmycloud 12tb accessable anywhere with an internet connection and no subscription). In general I also just like the freedom Android offers overall, sure it might not be as polished as iOS but in my opinion is just more practical and versatile. As for me getting an iPhone, I don't really see that happening any time soon (iOS being the biggest problem). I do have an iPad pro though since there isn't really any competition to the 12.9 inch, but even then I miss certain things I take for granted on Android, and I may sell it and buy a pixelbook (big maybe). I also use to have a MacBook but after it got stolen I went back to Windows (which finally got it's act together after the disastrous Windows 8 ) since I was really disappointed with the MacBook Pro 2016 and up. I'm not really loyal when it comes to brands as you might have noticed, I just use whatever works best for me regardless of brand, although I have to say that Android has never let me down.

That’s fair. Use what works best for the individual, it’s all ultimately the same in the end, just personal preference. Cloud has never failed me, but yea I back up everything on my QNAP server also where needed. Sounds like the mix has served you well so no reason to change it up. Kinda my feelings as well with iOS.

I see, so now you're taking something that exists in real life and comparing it to a rumor.
Great!

I can testify that the glare on the curved screen was not an issue at all on the S8, but unintentional touches is a real issue.

Maybe on the s8, but the note 9 is designed differently and I'm able to hold it without a case and not have unintentional touches. Try the note 9 out at a demo booth.

Again you have utterly and completely not understood the point, which is that if the display is curved on both sides then reflections are inevitable. The display of the iPhone is completely flat, which is why they'd never go for a curved display. Yes the glass does make a gentle rounded blend into the side and the studio lighting *deliberately* emphasises this due to give a visual clue that the edge is curved. However this edge is *not* the display, it puts any reflections outside of the display area onto the edge of the bezel.

Do you understand now?

TL;DR Apples reflections do not impinge the actual display area.

Edit: I have made a little visual for you to aid in understanding what is not really a very complex concept. I have taken the Samsung image from their website because I like the irony where they have drawn a yellow diagonal line to mark the actual display area and you can clearly see that it goes right over the edge reflection caused by the curved display. On the Apple shot you can clearly see that any reflection is not even showing on the bezel.

And you've apparently completely ignored the suggestion to hop on over to Apple.com and look at Apple's own screenshots of iPhone X- including the head-on screenshots

iOS 12 gives the edge to the iPhone X.

What’s the point of the added ram if processing a video clears the memory for apps in the background.

Poor memory management compared to the year old iPhone.

More ram lets you multitask more. On Android, instead of watching a loading screen for the video exporting, you can switch to another app to use or even in split screen. Under iOS, if you switch to a different app, the "loading screen" doesn't continue in the background.

Oneplus also started out selling well-specced phones at half their current prices as well, but it was clear that this was just a marketing move and never going to be a sustainable strategy moving forward. Eventually, they too had to raise prices in order to stay viable.

Companies selling cheap phones are nothing new. This is a repeat of 2013 all over again, where people claimed that iPhones would lose to cheaper android phones. As it turned out, not only did this not happen, but the iPhone went on to be sell in ever-increasing quantities (and at higher ASPs to boot). It was hilarious. Seeing their reactions of disbelief.

There is something about the iPhone that makes it immune to this sort of disruption. The people getting iPhones don't want cheaper phones; they want the unique iPhone experience that only Apple can provide, and will pay any price to get it.

That’s a good argument. I see what you mean. Yes. Apple are quite exclusive as a company where their operating system exceeds the hardware. And that perhaps was Jobs intention from the start. I have an iPad over say a Samsung tablet mainly because a cycling app I use (Zwift) is IOS only. It now that’s on Android will I move to Samsung next time? I probably won’t because my missus and daughter have iPhones and iMessage is very useful to keep in touch. But. I have a Huawei as does my daughter now and we wouldn’t go back to iPhones now having realised the competition is as good. And cheaper hardware wise. But. There is nindenying that IOS was literally a decade ahead when first launched and even though it’s getting less and less intuitive s extra features creep in, it still manages to hold up against anything Android can throw at it. So far. But with Xiaomi now making phones half the price of OnePlus will that do it then? Or. Could they give away the phones and people would still pay £1000 for the ‘privilege’ of having IOS or is there an element of misguided blind loyalty going on? In any other field you could apply proven logic or common sense. But when it comes to the Apple market none of that applies. But I fully take on your points and will be intrigued as to whether I’m proved right in my predictions (usually not) or whether this is the period when Apple (and Samsung for that matter) started cost cutting themselves.

I will go for the 5.8 inch model. I’ve enjoyed the 7 plus the 2 years I had it, but it’s just too big.

Ditto.
I love having a big display and the aspect ratio is better on the plus than on the 5.8'' but I miss the old times when my iPhone fit perfectly on my pocket. I'm going for the 5.8 this time and hope it will get a price cut

IOS (no file system, no download from websites)

I do this all the time with my iPad. (Download files and store them on my iPad)
If this is something you need to do, you might find it useful to post a request for help in the appropriate forum.

Don’t know about that.

Given the same lighting conditions.
The one plus and the phone x aren’t reflecting any glare but the curve on the note 9 and s9 are making the display look smaller.

The iPhone X's display looks way more "immersive" than the others. To me, the notched design is truly a step in the right direction. It must have to do with the fact that the screen closely follows the contours of the phone. It looks like you're looking through a window.

There are ways around this (documents app, icab browser on iPad, workflow app), but I can see how this can be frustrating for someone expecting this sort of functionality to come out of the box.

I can't believe how hard some of us are working at this argument. Like it if you like it. Hate it if you don't. I actually don't care. The original argument was that a Samsung screen has edge glare and an Apple screen does not. The evidence offered was of the typical & extreme variety: cherry-picked extremes to try to support that as hard as it can be implied. Anyone can hop right over to Apple's own website, look at Apple's own hand-picked images of their latest & greatest flagship and see- first hand- that Apple themselves chooses to use photos that show edge glare on not one but TWO sides. In fact, Apple has ALWAYS chosen to showcase all Apple phones with various forms of glare applied, instead of striving for imagery that strongly supports the glare-free angle so passionately being pushed in this sidebar.

Curved screen or flat screen is matter of opinion- like Apple logo being on a phone vs. a Samsung logo, S-pen inside or Pencil outside, headphone jack or dongle tail, etc. I made no argument that curved is better or worse than flat, nor no argument that Samsung is better or worse than Apple. I simply pointed out that edge glare is not unique to Samsung phones or Samsung curved screen phones by referencing Apple's own hand-picked imagery of their own flagship phones showing edge glare on TWO sides. Again, regardless of how many times a crowd of us wants to try to keep hammering on this point, anyone still reading this sidebar (anyone? anyone? Bueller? Bueller?) can hop right over to Apple's own website, peruse Apple's own hand-picked images to showcase iPhone X and notice the glare on 2 edges with their own eyes right this second. The link

And thanks for going to the trouble to making a little visual for an apparent inferior mind like mine. Unfortunately, I have a bunch of actual Apple products of this ilk. As such, I have plenty of experience with taking them into well-lit room or outdoors and having the entire screen exhibit so much glare that I need to seek out some shadow to even make out what is on screen. Or sometimes- probably like with these Samsung screens- it can be a matter of ever so-slightly rotating my hand to make up to all of the glare cease.

One can certainly make exhibits that can make one thing look far inferior to another thing. But if someone is fan of the other thing, they likely can do the same to make theirs look better. I hear that's some advanced knowledge thing called marketing or sales or maybe PR in some cases. Usually the corporations that make such things go to the trouble of building exhibits to make such points... not consumers trying to convince other complete strangers that what is visible with their own eyes in corporate-chosen imagery is not there... or not as bad... or not real-world.

Thanks. I'm sure Apple appreciates your tireless efforts. I already own Apple everything, so there's nothing to (help a corporation) sell me. And everything I have that is Apple can show dramatic glare- well beyond an edge or two- in brighter lights/sun or other cherry-picked conditions. It's OK. Often the most modest of rotation of the thing- or my position- can make up to all of the glare vanish... probably just like the same actions would work with a Samsung phone.

Just curious, is there anyone here that is considering to buy either the latest Note or wait for a new, larger iPhone?

What are your criteria for selecting one over the other?

I thought Apple stuff "just works".

It does, so long as what you want to do is in line with what the product was designed to do. When everything comes together, it’s magical. When you try to go against how Apple intends for you to use their products, then it’s like jogging in quicksand.

For myself, it so happens that what I want out of my Apple products happens to jive with the former point, so it really isn’t much of an issue for me. While I do not deny that I do run into issues and roadblocks from time to time, the reality is that the core experience is worth more to me than every other drawback combined, and that’s why I remain a happy and satisfied Apple user.

Was it not designed to do what the previous poster had difficulty with?
You make it sound like 1984. Don't go against Apple

iOS has never had a user accessible file system. If you want to be able to copy files to your ios device, you will have to either use cloud storage or a file manager app such as documents or goodreader.

As for the second part, I see it more as not bothering to fight a battle I know I can’t win. It’s one thing to complain about it on a forum, it’s another thing to try and force iOS to do something you know it was never designed to do (well). Because I do spend a fair amount of time tricking out my iPad, I am also quite realistic as to what it can and cannot do, and that’s why I also have an iMac to do what I still can’t do on my iOS devices.

I am sure someone out there would be able to make it work (for example, that Macstories guy has complex workflows which I can’t even begin to wrap my head around), and I probably should start experimenting with said app, but for now, I just don’t think it’s worth my time and energy.

But wasn't the iPad being spoken of as a laptop replacement? But jump through hoops first.
Anyway, spoken like a true acolyte :)

I prefer to think of the iPad as a PC alternative, and it works for me because a PC has never really been able to do everything I needed it to do in the first place. Specifically, I like my iPad for its portability, ease of use and battery life. I like that I don't have to wrestle with a legacy desktop OS, or bloated desktop apps, and am more comfortable with iOS these days.

To use an analogy, I had been using a screwdriver (a conventional PC) to hammer in nails because the hammer (the iPad in this case) hadn't been invented yet. Sure, there are tradeoffs, but in general, an iPad suits me better for what I do as a teacher. I have an iMac at home for heavy lifting, a school-issued HP Elite tablet PC that I really only use for relief planning (because google docs still sucks on iOS), but for classroom teaching, it's my iPad all the way. The Apple Pencil offers a great writing experience, my Apple TV frees me up to roam around the classroom, apps like notability are a steal for the utility they provide, and I really like its thin and light form factor.

If I sound like a cult acolyte, well, how can I not be a fanboy, when my Apple products are working so well for me?

They're not really comparable. Galaxy Note is more like a computer (true smartphone) while the iPhone X+ is more like a blown up iPod with calling capability (dumb phone). And, it's not really 6.5" but more like 6" when factoring in the missing chunk of content from notch.
I’ve seen these kinds of haters before. They’re called...HATERS!!
