thought i would just chime in my 2 cents. I was in tech support chat with Att earlier trying to get my texting to work. for some reason i always got the little red ! for like an hour which didn't make sense. thats fixed easily but while i was there i tried to talk her into putting mms back on. gave her the standard "i'm a developer and need to test my app" she refered me to the developer portal and when i said "apple told me to contact you" she shot me down again saying she couldn't make the change if it wasn't authorized by apple. here's to seeing mms soon i guess?

tethering is working perfectly :) but i have no option for MMS.....no big deal as i really don't care about sending pictures, but i'm curious what went wrong

got mms to work with the carrier file/proxy settings on page 1

got mms to work with the carrier file/proxy settings on page 1, but can only receive. i can send pictures too, but get a red exclamation point telling me it couldn't send and to try again every time. anybody have any thoughts as to how to fix receiving but not sending?

I've figured out at this point there's no sure way to get MMS working unless AT&T allows it to happen. I've tried all the methods posted here and in other places on the web and still get nothing. I've talked to 8 AT&T reps over the past 2 days and they've all told me essentially the same thing: It's not possible at the moment (which I know isn't true).

It has become more of a hassle then it's worth, considering at least half of the reps at AT&T don't even know what the 3.0 software is. I guess on Wednesday I can call and legitimately bitch at them about the service not working.

In order for it work properly, the only mms setting you should have is wap.cingular

Everything else should be blank... If you dont believe me pm me your number and I will send you a mms.

Question:

If you completely delete iTunes through terminal and then downgrade to 8.01 and then back to pre-release beta 2 of 8.2, will your itunes library still work? I tried deleting 8.2 through the trash, and then installing prelease 2, and it said it could not read my library.

Please clarify for me???

OK, I've been reading threads all night to figure this out, could someone clarify something for me please???

I loaded my phone up with 3.0 a few days ago, (LOVE IT). But there is no little camera button for MMS in my messaging app at all. Is this normal?
From reading the threads previous to this, I assume I would have to make some changes to get the little MMS / Camera button to appear on my texting screen?

1 more question.... If I just wait it out, until the official AT&T release of the MMS features, Will there just be a carrier profile update sent out then? And after downloading it, the little MMS button will then show up on my messaging screen?? Or would it have to be an actual firmware upgrade to get it to show?

I thought I had seen somewhere that if your in the US, you wont see the MMS button on the 3.0 realease, it only shows up in several other countries. Is this true??

I'm in the U.S. on AT&T network.

Yes, when AT&T is ready to roll out MMS there will definitely be a carrier update because as of right now MMS is disabled by default on the standard 3.0 software. If you install the 3.0 GM with no additional IPCC files then you should not have access to MMS. Don't be too upset about it though, because it doesn't really work at the moment. I'm not sure when it'll be available -- I've heard everything from June 17th to late summer from AT&T technical support. We'll see what happens come Wednesday.

I'm wondering the same thing. After deleting 8.2 and installing 8.01 and then the pre release I got the error that iTunes can't open cuz the iTunes library was created by a newer version of iTunes. Eventually I was able to open up the pre release iTunes threw another way and I updated my carrier settings.

Can I now go back and download the latest version of iTunes and still have the carrier settings and get rid of the iTunes library file problem??

Just tell AT&T you aren't using an iPhone handset anymore and your SIM is in <<insert another phone here>>. You want MMS back.

There you go...

MMS works!

I've been following threads on this site and thanks to all the folks who've offered solutions. Mine worked this way: 3.0 GM installed. No problem. Then installed old carrier settings using ITunes pre-release. Tethering works, both bluetooth and USB. No MMS at first.

MMS finally got to work this way: put in the set of settings cited earlier that included password and username and then, thanks to some other posters' ideas, putting my SIM card in my daughter's phone and having her send me an MMS message (she has an LG Xeon phone). Caveat: we have a family text plan, which means she has MMS capability on her non-Iphone. Took SIM out of her phone, put it in mine, turned back on, and yes, it works.

I have not since repowered my I-phone, but once I do, I'll report back.

Question: did my daughter's phone somehow change settings on SIM card to allow MMS to work for me? And if it did, can someone explain in laymen's terms how this works? Thanks.

Can other people confirm this is a sure fire way to get MMS working? I'm taking a break from fiddling around with it since I've already tried every other method with no results.

Having problems, let me try to break it down for you guys and see if I didnt screw something up.

I updated my phone this morning from 2.2.1 to 3.0 GM with the newest version of iTunes. After I saw all this MMS/Tethering stuff, I decided to try.

I followed the instructions and moved iTunes into the trash, emptied the trash, restarted my computer and installed the beta 2 version of iTunes linked too in this thread. I also downloaded the ATT bundle file linked to. When I try to option + update, the ATT file is greyed out. Not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

I have attached a link to a screenshot to show greyed file and version of iTunes. Thanks!

I think you need to delete the iTunes folder in Home>Library. I'm downloading the beta iTunes and I'll let you know if it works.

EDIT: Everything worked. I also used the settings cited earlier (page 2).

EDIT2: Tethering doesn't work. I turned on tethering over USB and a window pops up and when I go to Network Preferences on my Mac the connection is red.

worked fine for me - but 5 minutes later att must have swept my phone and saw that it was an iphone and now it is broken again...

My opinion is that there are 3 things that need to be right to get MMS working.
#1 You have to have 3.0 software (beta or GM)
#2 Your carrier file has to be updated to allow (5.0)
#3 Your texting plan can't be for iphone (I have a 1500 Business plan)

To get tethering working would be easier.
#1 You have to have 3.0 software (beta or GM)
#2 Your carrier file has to be updated (I've had it work on 4.9 & 5.0)

This has worked for me without changing any settings, usernames, passwords, sim card switching with other phones, or calling AT&T. I have switched the iPhone off multiple times and sent and received MMS from multiple carriers. Tethering still works to.

I know that everybody has been trying to keep things professional while on the phone with AT&T but now that I'm sure they are getting a ton of calls from people asking about this has anybody tried the cancellation threat? I sent an e-mail (not threatening to cancel though) because I hate calling places to see what they can do, I'll keep you posted on whether it works or not. I haven't had AT&T for long so I'm not sure how they handle cancellation threats but I know most of the other providers I've had have been fairly accommodating once you play that card, but if they call it you look like an ass :D

I will 2nd this. I have GM 3.0 and updated my carrier file to 5.0 and tethering works over bluetooth and usb (but breaks visual voicemail and sometimes apps:mad:) but I keep getting a red check-mark at about 95% of sending a mms message. I'm 99.9% sure my phone has the mms block on it as well as I'm still on an iPhone text plan so it's not going to work for me until they officially turn it on or I can find somebody at AT&T to hook it up :D

I switched the SIM card between a LG Shine and my 3G, and MMS finally worked! I had the special carrier file and the options on the first page of this thread. Thanks to everyone for the great info! Oh shoot, I just tried sending a picture and it didn't work. I think I need to ask At&t to remove the MMS opt-out code. I'll post back if it works. So far they haven't noticed, but that might because I have a general unlimited family texting plan, not an iPhone specific one.

Does anyone have a modified carrier file that has visual voicemail / mms settings preset?

I noticed if I modify my network settings, it will automatically disable my tethering setting. Does anyone else have this issue? Basically I am changing voicemail (wap.cingular) to (acds.voicemail) and my tethering becomes disabled (setting no longer displays).

What is your carrier number in your settings?

5.0 I'm using the modified carrier file on gizmodo. Well the one located in this thread gives me the same results.

I think your misunderstanding me.

I wanted to know if someone had a modified IPCC file that basically enabled tethering, changed the Network Configuration Settings from (wap.cingular) to (acds.voicemail) and had the MMS settings preset instead of having to type it in each time.

When I manually change the voicemail / MMS settings, it disables my tethering as in the option no longer exists.
