Carolyn Davis: I apologize but you will need to contact Apple and they will assist you. The number for Apple/iPhone Support is 1-800-myiphone. The hours are Monday - Sunday: 8am - 8pm CT. The web address is www.apple.com/support . Is there anything else technical I can assist you with today?

Me: I was told by others that they was able to get their opt out codes removed though this chat.

Carolyn Davis: No we can not remove those. Any requests for that come from Apple though normal channels.

FFUUUUUUU... guess I'll try a few more times and see what happens.

Big YMMV:

Big YMMV on this just had one rep tell me the following:

Cassie Steele: I am sorry that the iPhone does not support the MMS at this time. Apple has specifically advised us not to add it under any circumstance at this point. They have not officially announced that MMS will be on 3.0 and that the development kit has a way to test it without our network.

Me: Hmmm while thats true with the simlator I'm needing to test my application on an actual phone per apple's best practices

Cassie Steele: I apologize but you will need to contact Apple if you are a developer. Please contact Apple iPhone Support by calling 800-694-7466. Their hours of operation are 8am to 8pm CT daily.

Me: Apple told me I needed to contact AT&T Cassie; is there anything you can do for me?

Cassie Steele: I apologize but there is not anything that we can do. We were instructed by Apple to not at this feature.

Me: Thank you for your time.

I'm trying again with another rep...once I'm through the queue

Austin,

I saw your post in the other thread that had instructions for calling AT&T to enable mms. Do you not have it working?

Techs are no help. I got the same response. I get the feeling AT&T pissed off Apple.
ase wait for a chat representative to respond.

Welcome to AT&T Technical Support Chat. My name is 'Jason P' and I’ll be happy to assist you today.

Jason P: Hello Chris. I see you're trying to enable MMS on your iPhone?

Chris: Yes. I would like to test some issues but I need to have the MMS Opt Out codes removed so I am able to send/receive them.

Jason P: I do apologize we are not enabling MMS for any reason at this time. I do apologize if you were told by Apple to have those restrictions removed or have MMS added, but currently we are not allowed to enable MMS on any iPhone at this time, sir. I apologize for the inconvenience this is.

Chris: How can this be?

Jason P: I believe it's a problem on the Apple end with misscommunication. We constantly get requests to provision MMS on our end. People, like yourself, who have had payed to join the Apple Developer program are some how being told that we will enable MMS when in fact that isn't the case. I do apologize again but we are just not able to enable that feature at this time, at all.

Chris: I understand that, but Apple is not a carrier for the iPhone. AT&T is. Apple cannot add MMS to an AT&T account from their end. So, there is nothing you can do to my account to remove any type of "code" to enable the MMS feature that I pay for but cannot use?

Jason P: We cannot do that at all, Chris. Again I apologize. We will be enabling MMS later this summer for all iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users though.

Chris: If you cannot do that now, how will AT&T enable it later this summer if the process of enabling will essentially be the same through the carrier?

Jason P: They are making improvements to the MMS systems to ensure iPhone customers have a good experience with MMS. Additionally we have hundreds of thousands to millions of accounts that will have to get the features added on and our systems have to be updated so we can process all that without causing any service delays. It's all a lot of back end stuff right now.

Chris: Yes, but those thousands to millions of accounts are depending on us developers to take care of any issues the MMS feature will have for the iPhone. Not enabling the MMS for a developer is going to look bad on AT&T because a lot of people are depending on having a good experience.

Chris: Thank you for your time. Bye.

I got pissed off and I am trying on another tech....

Me: Hello, I need my mms opt-out codes removed from my ATT account.

Natasha Chantel: I have read your post and I also show that you have an iPhone.

Natasha Chantel: I apologize, but we do not have the ability to remove the MMS restriction for an iPhone.

Me: I was told by other developers that they was able to get their opt out codes removed just fine through this chat with ATT.

Natasha Chantel: No sir, I apologize, but we do not remove the restrictions. We have not received any notification that we were to do that.

This isn't going to work. Pretty sure every tech support agent already got the memo. If someone does get thru to one that helps, please post their name here! lol

Austin,

I saw your post in the other thread that had instructions for calling AT&T to enable mms. Do you not have it working?

No; ATT after talking with multiple reps will not do it. My last one was the funniest yet:

Amanda Jennings: The iPhone is not designed to use multimedia messaging in the normal sense. Sir, using the pictures through email is the correct process.

ME: correct, but I'm using the 3.0 firmware which is designed to use MMS in the normal sense; I was told by apple's developer care that I'll need ATT to remove the opt outs on my line to test MMS with this version of the firmware.

Amanda Jennings: I am unaware that this is being allowed by Apple. I cannot make these changes. I am sorry.

Amanda Jennings: Making modifications to the software on the iPhone violates the iPhone software license agreement, and the inability to use the iPhone due to unauthorized software modifications is not covered under the customer’s iPhone warranty.

ME: Amanda can I send you a LINK which describes the changes being made by apple?

ME: MMS Send MMS messages and include video, photos, audio, and contact info.2 Even tap to snap a picture or shoot a video right inside Messages.

ME: http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/

ME: this is the coming software I am developing for - 3.0

ME: if you are unable to help me at this time I'll go back and speak with apple about what they suggest I do

Amanda Jennings: I understand you needs, however I cannot make these changes for you as it is a violation here at AT&T and I can lose my job over it Sir. I am sorry. You will need to contact Apple for your needs in this area.

Amanda Jennings: The number for Apple/iPhone Support is 1-800-MY-IPHONE (1-800-694-7466). The hours are Monday - Sunday: 8am - 8pm CST.

ME: Thank you ma'am

Amanda Jennings: Now that we have addressed how to reach the device manufacturer, may I help you in any other way today Sir?

I wonder if once 3.0 is officially released they will allow the opt out codes to be removed through a chat? Honestly I pay for MMS and up until now it has been my fault that I can't use it because I knowingly purchased a phone that did not have this service, yet ... Now that the iPhone does support MMS it is AT&Ts fault for not supplying me the service I pay for, and trust me ... I will fight tooth and nail to either get MMS or get some decent compensation. I was on a $70 per month plan at Sprint and I was only paying $19.99 because of several issues in which they reduced my monthly bill ... I would be more than happy to see this happen at AT&T as well.

I called and talked to a nice young woman. I explained that I was sending my iPhone in for repair and that while I was using my old ass Razr I wanted to send MMS. I told her to keep everything the way it was but that last time I needed to have the opt out unchecked and it worked fine. She verified that I am on the standard unlimited messaging plan (not iPhone unlimited) and that the opt out was not checked. Yeah!
Still doesn't work. FML!!

After a good 30 minutes of debating with Natasha Chantel (I really chatted that long) I managed to get this out of her.

Natasha Chantel: I do apologize for any inconvenience; however we are unable to add MMS for iPhones at this time. The iPhone Developer Program was made to allow consumers to design and test iPhone Applications for the new iPhone 3.0 software, not for testing MMS capabilities, though it does enable the feature on the phone. I can assure you that MMS on the iPhone will be tested thoroughly by AT&T internal teams who will insure that MMS service on the iPhone will function properly. I am not sure how they are enabling the MMS feature on the account but at this department we do not enable MMS on the iPhone.

So there you have it. lol

Just pester this sh*t outta them and they will give you a decent answer. She started out playing dumb... then mentioned they had been informed by Apple, then after further pestering, mentioned that she literally just doesn't know how to do it because apparently some reps now how but she was never taught. :) What can we do?

I talked to that same lady, and got the same exact answer about 2 hours ago. Will without the internal teams part.

business account

so, being on a business account, when i call 611, i get the business tech support line.
I started out saying that I need WAP Push and OTA Push Activation on my phone. He asked if I also wanted to provision MMS, i of course, said yes.
he put me on "silent hold" and said that if i needed him, just to say so. (i think he was muting himself while still listening to me) He worked whatever magic he did and then a flash sms appeared on my phone that read "please restart your handset" he also told me to power cycle my iphone and i did just that.
he tried sending me an MMS but it wouldn't go through.
Finally he asked what I was doing and I told him i was a developer, and i needed to test the MMS functions for an application I was working on.
He didn't like this, but once I told him that I had had MMS working fine in earlier beta's, he was much more willing to help me.
He tried all sorts of things for about half an hour, including re adding the "MMS Opt-Out" and then removing it.
nothing would work.
He then called over a supervisor who apparently told him that he wasn't supposed to help me, and that the service would be available the 17th.
i was so close.

in all i learned that these things definitely help you out:
- if they ask "Did you call apple support?" say that you were told to call ATT.
- Tell them that you want "WAP Push and Over The Air Push Activation" right off the bat.
- Call tier 1 tech support, they know much more about what it takes to get these things online.

i'm on a family plan with the unlimited family txting, i've had the att carrier settings pushed to my phone over the air, and am running 3.0 GM. My tethering is working fine, but no MMS.

spyte.

I Got MMS!

Ok this is what i did and now i have MMS back on Iphone final OS 3.0. It's Leaked encase you haven't found out.

I first downloaded iPhone1,2_3.0_7A280f_Restore.ipsw, search it on your fav tor site.

I click shift+ restore and chose the upgrade, and as expected MMS was not working. Went on youtube and downloaded the ipcc file on this video

youtube.com/watch?v=zEjpeogDGpM

Then using iTunes 8.2.0.10 i upgraded the ipcc using the file i downloaded on the link of that video. Finally i rebooted the phone by shutting it off and back on and it worked. Just tested it by sending a pic to another phone and it worked.

Give it a Try!

The only problem is that after two or three uses of your phone, att resets your medianet to show that you're using an iPhone, and it stops working.

Oh, and I copied and pasted the video link. So easy. Wow.

Im gonna drop this on a few 3.0 threads because I dont know what this little phone next to at&t means. Anyone know?

I didn't follow the instructions in the video, all i did was download the ipcc file from his link, just sent a few other mms and its still working fine.

Eureka!

Guys, if you can't get MMS working, listen to me.

I followed all these steps in the original post and had no luck in enabling the sending of MMS. I had the option to send them, but I couldn't actually get them to go through.

I've called AT&T multiple times bitching at them to enable MMS and everytime I had a rep tell me they will NOT do it. PERIOD.

Okay so... time for Plan B.

I called AT&T's after hours support line about two hours ago and it went like this;

(I'm lieing my ass off the whole time to this guy by the way)

"I recently sold my iPhone 3G and purchased an unlocked SideKick. I'm having trouble sending and recieving picture messages. It gives me an error whenever I try to send one."

He told me how the phone might not be compatible with the AT&T network, but I told him my data was working fine. He assured me that we should be able to get it to work then.

The first process we went through was changing the phone on my account from an iPhone. If you've ever been on the AT&T wireless website, it shows your device. This is what we needed to change he said. He asked me for the IMEI number of my phone.

You guys are going to need to find someone who has a picture-messaging enabled phone (or probably any T-Mobile phone) and get the IMEI number.

This phone ABSOLUTLEY HAS TO be fromT-Mobile so that the IMEI number doesn't match someone else's on AT&T. It will bring up red flags in their system because it will be registered to another account.

I gave him the number and he changed it in their system. Then I told him all the blank fields in the MMS category (even though none of them are blank) under CELLULAR DATA NETWORK in the iPhone settings. He then proceeded to tell me things to fill into those fields. He told me some things that didnt match those below, but I just pretended I was listenting to him and used the ones below.

APN: wap.cingular
Username: wap@cingulargprs.com
Password: CINGULAR1
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32

He made me try and send MMS's many times during this phone call and after everytime it didn't work, he would try something different in the system. He also had me restart my phone a couple of times.

He eventually said, I think I finally got it. He sent me a test picture message of a hamburger (looked delicious) and after about an hour of being on the phone with him....

IT WORKS! I can send/recieve picture messages and contacts without any trouble at all.

I really hope this works for you guys. I really think it will. It's a lot of talking and work but if you really want MMS before ****ing LATE SUMMER, give AT&T the middle finger and lie your ass off for about an hour.

NOTE: If he mentions anything about changing your internet plan to the PDA-INTERNET package (same price, just for different phones), tell him that your internet works just fine already and to keep the iPhone data package since you plan on buying the 3GS or something.

Bump. This seriously works guys.

I think a lot of people who say their MMS is working are just trolling these forums trying to give all you guys false hope.

Just a head's up, my friend and I were able to get AT&T to enable MMS on our accounts. We can't get it working on our phones though. We followed the directions here. Good luck!

Mine did work for a while, then stopped randomly... I never had to call anyone, I just updated my carrier file then entered the information in cellular data, restarted and it worked... then after trying to get tethering to work it disappeared, so something caught it and disabled it... either the network or the phone, I don't know...
