I think he meant the VPN server (EasyVPN) was running on his Snow Leopard laptop, and his iPad was connecting to that, from the road.

I've set it up on my iPad which works perfectly (thanks a bunch), but you had previously stated that you had set it up on a snow leopard laptop. How did you go about that if using a vpn connection optimum PC app sees that you are not on home network. Like is there something similar method to the jailbreak .deb to block that or did I just read wrong.
Optimum's 1.0 laptop TV application does not check if you are connected over VPN. Just setup VPN on your Mac laptop, connect VPN and launch the application. The quality of video is much better on the iPad than on the laptop app. The laptop app IMO looks VHS quality. It's terrible.

I'm sorry to bother coleman2010 but could you help me finalize this, i would screen share with you (i saw you are in nyc) I'm in NJ, get off around 7pm. i hope you can do me the favor and check why my connection isn't working, i followed your instructions but when i try to connect remotely/locally nothing (on the idevice, have iPhone and iPad optimum app version) i would have pm'd you but i can seem to find out how to do that either.. this would really help me out thanks again

Can you detail your setup and how you are trying to connect?

Are you able to run the Optimum iPad/iPhone app regularly while on your home WiFi network? Test that to make sure your Cablevision cable modem is configured correctly.

Ok, here's my setup, I have an airport extreme forwarding and bat are enabled, I also have a dyndns account I know it's working since I tested it out with Plex, as for the portforwarding I setup the private and public ports as per your notes 1723, 47 the host ip I left what was generated by aebs , I created the VPN server with easyvpn, domain: optimum.net
Server: 10.0.1.1
Created a user and pass to use the same when connecting to VPN through iPad/iPhone
On iPad/iPhone configured VPN connection as such
Server address i tried both the ip address of my computer ( went to whatsmyip to figure that our) and the dyndns connection I have
I have checked to see if any connection was denied in easyvpn but no connection received , I disabled firewall just incase but still no luck, I'm sorry if I left out some details u needed just ask, thanks again for your help, much appreciated. If u have a PayPal let me know I'll send a donation for your efforts

And yes I can use the optimum app inside my house on my network

It sounds like your port forwarding is not setup correctly since your EasyVPN log is not showing the attempted connection from your iDevices.

Can you ping your public IP address? Ping by IP and by DNS name? You said you tested Plex using the DNS? Is that also using port forwarding? Check if you have overlapping port number forwarded to a another internal address.

Silly question: Is EasyVPN turned on and waiting for connections?
I'm traveling this weekend but I should have a moment to remote to you with ichat and check out your settings. PM me your ichat name.

I'm sorry I don't know how to pm u, I have connected a lot of times to my Plex library via dns and yes it does require port forwarding, yes the easyvpn is on and does show "listening for connections" pm me if u can with your ichat or I'll reply with mine (if I figure out Jon to) thanks for your time man

Your PM feature is not turned on. I can only contact you by email. Something I'd rather not do.

In the FAQ, it states newbies won't have access to PM, i tried going to the PM page and yep, no access (insufficient privleages) but i did activate visitor message, what ever that is..lol

A huge thanks to Coleman

With his expertise i am now able to log in remotely, but more importantly i also realized what i did wrong (i assumed) and now i can pass on the good word onto others.

Hey coleman ive been trying to follow this thread from the beggining...not sure if its possible for me too do this....i am currently on newest ios and not even jailbroken with optimum app 2.1.2 is there hope for me if i jailbreak

Coleman - i did exactly the same - except when I launch the Optimum App on iMac - it tells me during the initial launch process that - you are not in your home network - and then the App launches fine - and when I click on one of the channels - Watch on Computer - button is greyed out.

Just like other user - JoeMcDirt - mentioned, I am exactly in the same boat.

Yes, it will work. You have to do the jailbreak first.

If it tells you you're not connected to your home network then your VPN is not setup or working correctly. Have you setup and tested VPN on your Mac? Connect VPN, then go to the website whatismyip.com and verify it shows your home IP address.

I'm not sure if the application will run on an iMac. It's a "laptop" application and will not run if an external monitor is connected. I don't know if it also checks screen size and considers an iMac a desktop or an external large monitor.

Actually - you are correct - even though the VPN connection was showing connected/authenticated & when I tried whatsmyip - it still was showing my IP address - after multiple retries, no luck so I finally deleted VPN configuration and added a new one and that solved my issue - after connecting to new VPN configuration - i was now seeing different network IP address. And the Optimum works all fine.

Summary - Setup VPN correctly - test using whatsmyip (make sure it is not your IP address) - launch Optimum App - and you are all good to go.

Note - by the way this works on iMac.

Thanks for your help!!!!!

So it does work with the lastest laptop OPT app? How exactly did you set up the VPN on your mac? Because I'm still a no go. Or maybe I just haven't set it up properly.

Does VPN work on your iPad? You should go to System prefs/Network add a new port, and add VPN. Setup the Mac with the same VPN connection settings as your iPad.

coleman 2010 - question on connecting Ipad to Windows VPN

Does VPN work on your iPad? You should go to System prefs/Network add a new port, and add VPN. Setup the Mac with the same VPN connection settings as your iPad.

Is there software similar to Easy VPN for Windows to connect the Ipad. I am away and have Logmein on a Windows PC and my Easy VPN on Mac has stopped working (not sure why as computer sleep mode was turned off).

Can I set up a VPN using Comodo on the Windows machine to create a VPN? Or is there another software similar in ease to Easy VPN for a windows machine?

I do have access to the router through Logmein but I'm hesitant on installing DDWRT on the router as I can not power on and off the modem as needed.

Thanks

Some where in this thread someone posted how to setup VPN on a windows box. It's in this thread some where. Also, search the forum for it as well.

Hey Coleman

You seem to be in the know, I'm having trouble getting my new Mac book pro to stream the twc website whilst being connected over a wifi not located within my home network. I have access to "hma" pro VPN.

I was wondering if you knew a way to tricking the Internet site into streaming whilst I am visiting friends or whilst overseas.

Follow the same basic steps I have posted here to setup a VPN server on your home network. Then setup the VPN connection in System Preferences/Network on your Mac. Connect to your home VPN, then start the stream.

All internet traffic should route through your home network over the VPN connection so it appears as if you are home.

Need more detail. When and where are you getting this?
