Got my 3rd carrier update since Tuesday from TFW today.

Anybody have any idea what it might be in response to?

I can't tell any difference...

I have a Verizon iphone5 and 4s that I need to work on ST. What do I need to do to get the best service possible? Unlock and jailbreak both?

Ok. I've been reading the posts on here and I'm still trying to figure out some of the issues that's been discussed and have questions about before I switch from ATT to ST:

1) I just ordered one of the ST SIM cards (says Micro SIM) through ST. I keep reading about having to cut down the sim card. I initially bought the sim for an ATT Iphone 4, however I am going to get an Iphone 5s tomorrow, but I don't believe this is the right SIM card. I think I need to order the other SIM card offered by ST for ATT phones, and I say this because I just upgraded my son to an Iphone 5s and I popped his sim out and its smaller than the one in my I4. Am I correct in this assessment? Do I need to order the other ATT SIM card showing on the ST website? And if so, is this the card that has to be cut down or does it need to be cut down?

2) I am going to the Iphone 5s myself and if I understand the posts here, I just need the right SIM card and to update the IOS to 7.0.3 (if the phone isn't already updated) and the phone will pull the correct settings automatically?

3) If I am correct about 1) & 2) what else do I need to do to switch from ATT to ST and what is the best order to do it in? I want to bring my current number from ATT to ST (I've had this number for about 6 to 7 years and don't want to even think about all the people I would have to contact to change my number - Serious nightmare!)? Do I need to do the number port first then the SIM card and activation on the phone?

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. :)

Not sure if the at&t iPhone will work on ST. I know the Verizon iPhone 5s will work. Yes, the carrier settings will update. You will prompted when the ST sim is activated. The micro sim is the correct sim. ST does not make a nano sim, so you will have to cut the sim down. If you're not comfortable cutting it yourself, you can order a nano sim cutter from Amazon, or other online stores. If you want to port your number, do it before you cancel your at&t service.

When you go through the activation process you will have the option of porting.

I'm pretty sure the Straight Talk web site has complete directions on porting your number. I followed them and got my ATT numbers ported over pretty smoothly.

You will need to cut down the micro SIM to nano SIM size, which is what the iPhone 5 and later use. Just use your existing nano SIM as a guide.

I ordered the ST LTE micro sim for unlocked GSM phones to use in my Verizon iPhone 5s. The only free shipping I could find is Free Fedex 3 day. Not a problem though, I can wait that long. From reading this thread I believe I ordered the correct sim. Someone please correct me if I wrong.

After I cut card to nano size and install all I need to do is go through iTunes to change my cellular settings correctly. Is this correct?

Thanks for any feedback.

You shouldn't need to do anything through iTunes, just install the SIM card and reboot the phone...

The Micro SIM card can easily be cut to Nano size, no need to order the other one. Also, you will not need to change any settings to use it on ST. You will need to choose the "Port phone number" option when activating your SIM card.

Everyone

Thanks for all the advice. Ordering 2 more micro sim cards for my kids phones, cutting them down to Nano size, and bringing the entire family over to straight talk. :)

You should enjoy the savings, I did the same with my family (3 phones total). Its a lot better now with iOS 7, no more mucking around to get things set up. If you want visual voicemail, the free Youmail app/service works really well.

Here's an additional bonus- you can often find ST refills on EBay for really great prices (around $30-35 month per line which is amazing deal..) Just make sure you only buy from high feedback sellers.

This may seem silly.

I currently have an unlocked iPhone 4 using the ST BYOP program. I've recently purchased an AT&T iPhone 5. I haven't gotten it yet, so I haven't tried it... but, I've got a cut down nano sim for the ST 4G LTE. Will data work without an unlock? The prices for unlock are now ridiculous. (Not to mention, illegal.)

I currently have an iPhone 5 on the Verizon network, but I am looking into switching it to straight talk. I'm just trying to make sure on exactly what I need to do. So all I have to do is go to Walmart & get a SIM card? & which one? & in order to get LTE I have to use to settings you provided .. Exactly where would I need to enter those settings at? I'm sorry, just trying to fully understand. & lastly, would I still be able to send/receive texts & pictures?

You need a GSM phone in order to use LTE. If you had a 5c/5s you woud be in business!

As for settings, the new thing is you do not have to do anything if using a proper GSM phone and at&t compatible sim card. As far as I know only visual voicemail does not work. MMS and SMS should work out of the box.

PS- You can just order the sim online, its free overnight shipping. You may also want a sim cutter as they only show micro sims on sale.

Actually, Straight Talk provides a GSM SIM that you can put into a Verizon 5 or 5S or 5C. I put the GSM SIM into my Verizon 5S and I have LTE.

That is because the 5S has the proper bands. The post by RoseGoldEnvy says he has an iphone 5 (VZW) which is no good on the att LTE bands. He should be able to get 3G

Hello everyone,

Want to just give an update... Got the sim cards for the kids phones, cut them, & installed them. Activated all 3 phones, sim cards, and ported the numbers over. Had to call ST support to get it done, there was an issue with my phone, but the kids phones have both activated and have already gotten their numbers ported over. Still waiting on mine - showing no service at this time, but the ST agent I spoke with gave me a number to call if mine did not activate within 1 to 2 hours. The kids numbers ported over in about 10 minutes.

Thanks again to everyone for the advice and assistance.

2 Iphone 5s & 1 Iphone 5c

Ah, good to know and glad to have it cleared up...

iPhone 4 to 5

I'm not too sure if anyone can help me out, I currently have an iPhone 4 on Straight Talk and plan on getting an GSM unlocked 5 soon, does anyone know if I'd have to order a new SIM card or can I just cut down my current one and change my APN settings for LTE? Thanks in advance

Is your APN the old one (att.mvno)? If so, you'll likely need to order a new SIM card to get LTE. You can't just change the APN.
