Ok so check this out.. I've had a Verizon iPhone 5 for almost a year now. Since their sim slot is factory unlocked, I've been using a Straight talk AT&T sim in it. For almost a full year now, I've been using the same old APN settings which were the following:
Cellular Data
APN: att.mvno
Username:
Password:
MMS
APN: att.mvno
Username:
Password:
MMSC:
http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33:80
MMS Max Size: 1048576
MMS UA Prof URL:
http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf
Now as long as I turned off my LTE setting, data, MMS and everything was flawless. Well today, everything just went crazy and nothing was working. People were saying they were getting messages from my email and things like that. So I thought, my Straight Talk renewed literally today, so maybe I have to do yet another sim swap. After trying the old way almost 10 times, I stumbled across this thread saying that LTE was now available. I don't have a new sim, like I said, I'm actually using a sim cut down from the mini size that's almost a year old. But I decided to try anything so I used your method from the original post AND IT WORKS. Now, my banner does not show LTE (still shows 4G) but all of my data and MMS works fine and at the same/slightly faster speeds. I in fact toggled the switch to Enable LTE on, tried the data and mms, it worked but did not show LTE in the top banner. When I toggled it to off, everything worked the same.
The one thing that makes no sense to me is this: AFTER INPUTTING THE NEW LTE APN, I left my 'Enable LTE' toggle to OFF and ran 3 speed tests. My download was around 6.5-8.5 (not too bad). When I ran 3 speed tests with the 'Enable LTE' toggle ON, not only were all 3 download tests from 2.5-3.5, but my phone got terribly hot very quick. If it means anything, I'm using iOS 6.1.4 still since I'm not a fan enough to switch to iOS 7. But this is definitely weird to me because like I said, I don't have any new LTE enabled sim, but the LTE APN works. I also have my LTE turned OFF and it gets faster speeds than when it's turned ON.
Can anyone make sense of this? Sorry for the rambling..
