I do not use Maps - Google version or Apple version - very often, so I did a test using my own neighborhood. I entered in several addresses and compared the results. I knew these sites and had driven there quite often. Guess what? Apple maps were accurate more often than Google maps.

Google seemed to have a really hard time with roads that went around a bend and forced addresses to switch from north and south to east and west. For example, on one road the addresses start at 2700 West Brookshire Dr. Brookshire takes a 90 degree bend in the middle and by the end of the road, the addresses are 1750 North Brookshire Dr.

Each has their own story, and I am not saying that my results are conclusive or representative of what is happening everywhere, but it's not ALL doom and gloom either.

So basically we are forced to be beta testers
Agree. This is totally unacceptable of Apple.

We are all willing to adopt Apple Maps but it has to be of the highest quality (they charge a premium for their products - they're not doing users any favors here).

Why can't they simply release Google Maps side by side and let the market dictate what users want to use for their needs.

Sorry. I paid $400 bucks for my phone. I am not going to do YOUR work which should have been equal to or better than the maps app you replaced.

Fix it or put it back. Plain and simple.

And what if you can't "put it back". There is nothing plain and simple when it comes to licensing deals with your biggest competitor. Google just released a YouTube app, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't do a Maps app too. Usage is everything to Google.

Apple should put together a Report Problem app where users could actively search for problems in their city and for each successful correction, they'd receive iTunes credits for music, movies, tv shows and apps.

Well said, but without a web-based version of maps I don't know how they're going to get there. I'm a heck of a lot more likely to do something like spend an hour correcting my town if it's on my laptop -- unlikely I'm going to spend the time fat-fingering through an iOS interface (and I'm someone OCD enough to actually enjoy doing it!).

 Not sure what your question is.

There was a list of free web apps followed by a $600.00 charge for using apple maps. $600.00 is for the phone. With that logic, it costs me $600.00 to use the list of free apps too, if I use them on the iPhone.

So we can agree that the hardware and software is an integrated solution just like a computer with an operating system and a browser?

I wish I could hear the internal discussions now. Apple might not have realized how bad the data was in some areas. Many developers keep separate development devices for pre-release software, which limits how much real-world testing was done with Maps. Apple has some serious usage data now, so re-sourcing maps could be done for areas where problems are the norm.

Regarding "they", you're talking about Google, not Apple. I suspect Google is going to make a big deal about it when they submit a Maps app (though that technically violates App Store Ts&Cs), so I doubt anything has been submitted yet.

This is NEVER going to make Apple Maps equal to Google Maps UNTIL Apple releases a web-based version where corrections can be easily submitted.

When I go to report a problem, Apple asks me for the Name, Address, Phone number, Hours, URL, and category of the business. Like I am just sitting in front of the business talking to the employees and can dutifully collect all that info:rolleyes:

I submitted a few additions last night. I tried to get as much info correct, which took some time sitting in front of my computer with my phone out in front of me. The interface is entirely unwieldy with a phone-only input.

I did submit a correction on Friday when I got my phone and it hasn't shown up yet so I'd imagine they're backlogged.

That's great, but the simple fact is they released a product that wasn't ready. Whether it's had enough development or user feedback isn't an acceptable excuse.
Agree.
Only Apple has the arrogance to take a perfectly working product and replace it with an inferior product and yet call it AMAZING! As an Apple fan, that is a little embarrassing.

When did this forum become so over-run with fandroids?

Well this is the problem in here. People like you think that if others dont praise Apple then they MUST be fandroids or Apples enemies. I am but a dissatisfied Apple customer. I paid my good share of money for a premium product so I want what I paid for. If I had bought a cheap ass phone then sure, I wouldnt be saying anything, but I spent 700 euros on my phone and I want it to be on par quality wise.

There's a railway station marked on the map in the middle of the road half a mile from my house, that has never existed in any location let alone there. Brilliant.

Get of fantasy island will You - Apple want's your data just like Google and for the same reasons...

Apple makes its money by selling me hardware devices.

Google makes its money by selling you to advertisers.

So the Android fan is actually paying twice: first for the hardware (Samsung) they need to use Google's services (which, BTW, is price-equivalent to Apple's wares) and second by having their eyeballs relentlessly pimped out to advertisers by Google.

Completely different business model. Though it appears Google has convinced half the world that it's a purely altruistic entity.

You don't? How about the fact that their app could likely be rejected on the grounds of "duplicate functionality"?

would it not get by on the basis that it eactly works? or it is functionality in theory?

besides not being successful how does google differ from iads regarding the privacy of your data?

Quid pro quo, Apple. I'll do my bit for maps. You give me all the features of ios6 in my iphone4.

Deal?

You should have seen the performance in the early betas of iOS6. I don't think the iPhone 4 could handle most features that are missing.

That said, no FaceTime over 3G on the iPhone 4? Seriously? Unless the video compression is different over 3G, that restriction needs to be removed.

Oddly enough, I live in Durango, Colorado where these screen shots came from. I haven't had a single problem with the Maps application yet.

I'm sure there are some issues, but they'll be worked out with time. This program is in its infancy, and works very well for being so.

And can they lease make the street lines with the name of street in it be thicker like in google , please I can only see the major streets unless I zoom in all the way !!! With google u could zoom about half way in an see the small residential streets , this would be good when trying to look at where ur at

You don't? How about the fact that their app could likely be rejected on the grounds of "duplicate functionality"?

Like they rejected Chrome, Gmail, and Earth? If Chrome is there, Google Maps is probably going to get through. Apple doesn't play the duplicate functionality card as often as the media likes to think. Besides, was the navigation category removed when I wasn't looking?

Im sorry I thought it was apples job to put out a decent product. We pay top dollar for their products, we shouldn't have to work for them also!!

My big question is: how do I add a place in Apple Maps?

In Google it was easy, even outside USA.

NOT possible

There is no problem with apple maps, because it is perfect and how DARE you criticize the company

OR

Hey, this is your fault for buying something that was in beta thinking it was some kind of selling point...

These will be the majority of responses.

I know I know..you are trying to be funny, but sorry, you are failing hard.
