I've just added hotmail and mail.app is constantly crashing as it tries to retreive old mail from the account :-(
EDIT/UPDATE: I just turned off growlmail and the crashes have stopped. Growlmail was fine before adding the hotmail account though.
I sort of figured that but just wanted to make sure. I was confused by your photo, and thanksI don't understand your question... if you enable Hotmail POP access in Mail, it will look and function like any other account in Mail. If you enable it in Thunderbird, it will look and function like any other account in Thunderbird. Ditto for Outlook, the iPhone, Eudora, etc, etc.
If you want the Windows Live or Hotmail interfaces, you can still always use a web browser, even after you have enabled POP access.
This is awesome, indeed, but what about folders?
In hotmail (the website) I have many of my previous emails organized into folders, i.e., a folder for bills, a folder for messages to and from a specific person, a folder for purchases, etc. The Sent folder, itself, is one of these folders.
While this new tip does work, the only folder that is downloaded is the Inbox. Has anyone found a way of getting Apple's Mail to download the messages in the other Hotmail folders?
My only idea would be to go into Hotmail (the website) and transfer all these old messages out of their folders and back into the Inbox. Then, when I "get mail" again in Apple's Mail the rest of the messages should get downloaded. I would have to create folders in Mail and sort through these messages again, of course. It would be nice to skip this step, though.
How can I delete the first mail account I created in error, on this snapshot, please?
I have the same problem as Zombitronic, the only folder downloaded from
hotmail to Apple Mail is the 'Inbox'. Anyone knows how to download/sync
the other hotmail folders in Apple Mail (Sent, Draft, Junk and own created folders)?
Thanks!
Great guide. Works like a charm! (I did this last week).
It only works for certain countries right now and microsoft are rolling out free pop3 access country by country. If you check their blog, you can see which countries are working and which are not.
UK is fine.
America is a no no for now (i'm guessing due to the size).
