How To use Hotmail in Mail app Guide (proper way)

Currently I'm using mBox Mail, would there be any advantages in using this over what I am using now?

I would continue with the mBox mail if you already have it.
If you use the mail method posted here, when you log onto hotmail through your web browser, all the emails show up as unread and you have to delete them again even if you already had on your iPhone. Frustrating!

or just do what i do and dont ever open your hotmail

Go to Mail->Preferences->Accounts->(Your Hotmail Account)->Advanced
checkmark "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message:"
in the dropdown box select "Right away"

That's it!

i have tried this before and it did work fine but i am just a bit sceptical about whether or not;
when you delete something from your hotmail using Mail.app does that then delete it from your actual hotmail inbox and put it in the trash or does it just let it keep on piling up?

and i take it vice versa; if you were to use the web interface for some reason or another, Mail.app obviously wouldnt download that message to your inbox as its not actually there. But would it download it to the trash?

it depends on what your settings in Mail.app are. if you go into Preferences->Accounts->Hotmail Acc->Advanced (Tab) then the third tickbox down "Remove copy from server after retieving a message: " will determine whether or not it deletes it.

i havent tried it with your second question, but based on my knowledge of POP it will not download (there may have been changes though so who knows).

Can't send emails from mail app

Hi, im using hotmail in mail app, but i can't send emails, it trys but stops after awhile. I can receive email.

setting i've got:

pop3.live.com
smpt.live.com

can anyone help.

I used it on my old macbook pro and it worked but, this new one is having little problem.

Did you put smpt.live.com or smtp.hotmail.com? The latter is the right one.
