I am picking it up on Wednesday and going to be using it as my main Mac for a week. Picking up the 512GB model, but not expecting much of a difference in benchmarking unless the storage is configured as 256x2. Has anyone confirmed this?

Is there anything in particular you all plan to test? I'll run the typical gauntlet of video/music editing, multiple heavy applications open, Xcode and of course the mother of all tests - how many chrome tabs can I keep open?

I will also run some other not as popular tests (chia plotting etc). This will be my slowest modern Mac, but fascinated with this little thing.

I suppose I could also try some games on it, but thinking the community will take care of that as I tend to do most of my gaming on my gaming pc. Not expecting too much, but interested in seeing how it can run Resident Evil 4 Remake for those who have already purchased it via the App Store.

I am not going to go out of my way to stress test. In my opinion, that is not really practical. If I was truly concerned, (which I am not) I would merely use the Neo as I normally would any Mac on a daily basis. If I visibly saw the Neo hardware struggling such that it showed during tasks I was involved with, that would give me cause to investigate. The last thing i am going to be doing, is checking the memory pressure every 5 minutes.

When I had the M1 MBA, I was easily able to have numerous tabs open while doing some video encoding, before I started to see a little bit of lag. I still have numerous tabs open at any given time but, I am not doing a lot of encoding like i was before.

I won't be stress testing it beyond using it as I normally would one of my laptops. Assuming it holds up well against such tests, I'll be more than happy with it.
The days of running a new computer for 24 hours, going through various tests to ensure there's no defective components are long gone.

I've been building Pcs for since the 1980s, also buying macs from early on, and its probably been decades since I even thought about a stress test

High end games like cyberpunk are unrealistic (this brings some desktop Pcs to their knees) but i’d suggest checking out some of the apple arcade / app store games such as

Oceanhorn 2 and 3
Resident Evil Village
Divinity Original Sin 2

All of those run on iPhones and/or iPads and should run OK on the Neo i would suspect.

I expect you'll be happy in some areas, and encounter some major limitations in others.

It may be a "new" computer, but the specs are known and capabilities are mostly able to be inferred and I expect them to be in line with the price point.

They haven't made a $600 Macbook that is going to suddenly wipe out needs or desires for all the other Macbooks above it.

That it is a useful practice for those looking for information on what the machine is capable of. Considering how popular these laptops will be I’m not sure how this is debatable.
We already know it can handle the same kind of load as the M1. All that will be different with Neo buyers from the forum is a lot of them coming to the reality that they don’t like giving up machine preferences they already have with the current models. It will be much like watching a YT revenue clickbait video where the person says this is the best thing ever to a month later complaining he or she made a mistake and returned it for something else or kept what they had prior to.

I have 2 on Wednesday that will be in hand - will be transferring over from existing computers into the Neos and see how they handle them.

12" rMB is my travel / bedside Mac and will be tested / transferred to the Citrus Neo.

M2 MBA is my work Mac and will be tested after transferring to the Indigo Neo.

Yeah considering this is the most affordable MacBook apple has ever released I think it's important to see exactly where it stands when its out in the wild not only compared to other MacBooks, but similar priced Windows based laptops.

A lot of very strange responses to this thread, but I should have known better lol.

The Neo will be my first MB. I've had plenty of Windows laptops over the years and every single one has some flex in them. And I would be more afraid of dropping them versus a MB as most are all plastic.

I have ran Geekbench 6 on all of my Windows computers, M4 Mac mini, and M3 iPad Air. I will run Geekbench on the Neo once just to compare it to everything else I own.

Otherwise I am just going to use it as normal and not worry.
