If Apple is dumb enough to release a thicker iPhone, it will be the beginning of the end for the iPhone brand. Samsung and Android will eat them alive.

You do realize the new iPad is a touch thicker, right? That's what I'm insinuating. And no, a slightly thicker iPhone with 4G LTE will not have Samsung and Android eating anything.

To answer the question of the topic...

I wouldn't be happy if it looked the same, but I'd likely buy it. Only because I plan on switching to Verizon as soon as an LTE iPhone is available. I really want to dump AT&T, but VZW's 3G speeds are unacceptable to me

If it's not LTE and there's no design change, I'm just sticking with my current phone.

whoa this is exactly my plan... its like you're in my brain or something :D

You do realize that tablets are not cellphones, right? And Apple has virtually no viable competition in the tablet market to boot. The cellphone market is a completely different animal. The two markets aren't even in the same universe.

This is 2012, Android is surging with 50%+ of the mobile market (and growing), and the Galaxy S3 is right around the corner. A "slightly thicker" iPhone would be a massive misstep. If Apple does indeed go that route, the S3 will blow the iPhone clear out of the water.

I would love to sit in on the Apple board room when someone gets up and says "Hey guys, I have an idea; let's make the iphone thicker and heavier!"

I completely disagree. I really don't think the reaction would be as drastic as you are making it out to be. Keep in mind when I say thicker I'm talking millimeters, if anything.

And Apple is at 30% of the mobile market (with many less models of course compared to Android) and is also growing. The iPhone needs a redesign, but you are so wrong that a 4G LTE iPhone that is (potentially) just a hair thicker would be a huge misstep. The S3 is not blowing the iPhone out of the water. That's ridiculous.

I'm not even saying that it's a given that the next iPhone will be any thicker. But I completely disagree with your assessment of what that would potentially entail if it came to fruition.

i would still buy it, probably not right away as i would with a completely new redesign because its something new. Chances are apple is going to integrate the nano sim or whatever its called to make up for extra battery space for LTE. LTE speeds would be amazing so yes once again i would still buy it but as long as it has a 12 MP cam and quad core processor.

Please...a bigger screen and battery

Personally I can't justify an iPAD as I have more computing power floating around to frighten most people. What I do want is a phone that I can use as a mini-iPad, so for me a 4.5 inch screen would work nicely. Current speed is fine, but better battery life would be huge. A slightly bigger form would allow for these up-dates with ease, and it doesn't have to be a lot bigger to accomplish that.

I'm not going to go outside the Apple family as they (Apple) have done a great job of integrating different hardware and software, with (mostly) seamless integration. With the few MS PC's I have for specific software applications - they just don't play as nicely, so won't go there... at least in the near future.

So, a bigger screen to allow my pork sausage fingers to hit the right keys and reduce eye strain would be great - being able to run for a day (and night) without going flat (so my alarm still work) would also be nice....and I'd be in-like-Flynn!

Personally I really like the form factor of the 4/4s. My first and only smart phone was the droid x and while it was nice to have a large screen I got an iPad which really is my go to device for most screen size dependent activities such as video/TV/web. I like that the phone is much smaller and actually fits in my pocket without being cumbersome like my droid was. If I didn't have or couldn't have an iPad then I would want a 4.5 inch iPhone but for those like me that always has an iPad at their disposal I think a smaller form factor iPhone is nice however with edge to edge screens we could easily go 4 inches and still maintain the same overall size.

My hope with iPhone 5 is same size or little thicker with 4 inch screen, much better battery, slight bump in processor, 4g LTE, water proof a la aquapel or the like, advanced siri assistant, and small generational bumps in sensors/cameras/wireless connectivity/Bluetooth.

Now in a perfect world in a few generations or so a mildly flexible device that can be bent to some degree without breaking, built in bumper system for drop durability and resistant to the elements like dust dirt and water would serve a perfect platform to act as your primary digital assistant that would run your car gauges, vitals, home and work computer/tv monitors and be your primary portal to the digital world. My opinion is we are generally moving in this direction and I love it.

Oh I just bought a 4s used because I just got tired of all the headaches I was having with android. I plan on upgrading to the next gen device when it's out and I'll be completely happy buying every other update to this iPhone technology.

If the new iPhone 5 has a 3.5" screen, I'll have to look else where for a replacement. I use my phone far too much during the day for business, and the small screen is just that...too small. I love the pocket size, but 4.0 to 4.3" makes a big difference, and yet is still pocketable. I really hate android OS. I just want the screen.

If it looks the same I'll smile, since it will remind me how addicted Apple is to profit taking, cutting costs, and letting their apologists make excuses for them.

I'll laugh at how sales will increase just because it's a member of the iToyz collection.

Once again my stock will jump which is why, no matter how disappointed the user in me will be, two decades of being a shareholder with a fat portfolio, it's been an unbelievable experience.

Other than craving a large spacious display, I really don't care.

I'm already enjoying the widescreen smartphone experience. It'd be even better if it was an iPhone, but for the massive gains my stock has made, it's easy to overlook Apples choice to keep the tiny screen.

Unless the 'new iPhone' (5) is a major change, I'm staying with my 4S - it's perfect.

Major change = new shape, bigger screen, superior camera and better battery life.
