But it had been previously stated that if for SSA recipients the IRS did not have any bank information, they would use such information from the SSA. In fact, I believe just this past week such direct deposits of the stimulus funds for SSA recipients was going to happen.

That's right; they had to tap into the SSA database in order to get the addresses of those who are on the SSA rolls, but many SSA recipients do not have a bank account or a bank deposit account number on file.....they still receive their checks each month by snailmail. Those people would receive their Stimulus payment the same way.

I, too, get my SSA payments by direct deposit, and also filed income tax returns for both 2018 and 2019 and in each case received a refund, which was again direct-deposited in the same account I use for the SSA payments. My stimulus payment arrived right on time, just as they said it would, by direct deposit, and then last week my usual SSA payment also arrived on the scheduled day, again by direct deposit.

Honestone33, it must be frustrating trying to figure out what went wrong somewhere along the line in your case!

Definitely! I even file a 2020 Estimated Tax "return", in which I directed $1 towards my 2020 taxes. For that, I provided the exact same direct deposit information which the SSA uses, and they did debit that account $1 back in March.

Somewhere I read something about that kind of thing confusing the situation, but I don't recall now just what it was.....there have been quite a few people who have had difficulties in getting their stimulus payments and the IRS has had to make modifications in their online sites which had been meant to help people but only wound up confusing and frustrating them.

Understand. I am about 25 miles south of Seattle, so I'm hoping they (one for my wife, and one for me) arrive as soon as possible. Not that we desperately need the funds, but just want to make sure they make it through the US Mail.

And yes, like you, my direct deposit information is there for the IRS' taking. I actually have filed tax returns every year, including ones for tax year 2018 and tax year 2019. For those last 2, did not have to pay anything, nor getting a refund. Thus, for those returns, no direct deposit information was provided. (Many of our prior years did have that information, and it's the same as for the SSA). But both returns did show that about 98% of our income if from the SSA, which (like you) pays our benefits via direct deposit.

With the talk of more payments (talking about $2000 a month per qualifying individual), I'd like to get this direct deposit situation straight with the IRS.

Got our combined check today (we are about 25 miles south of Seattle). That's actually quite fast, considering (assuming it's accurate) the check was mailed from an IRS office in Philadelphia.

What's somewhat funny and ironic is that on the back of the envelope, it says "DIRECT DEPOSIT - Simple. Safe. Secure. Get direct deposit..fast, safe, and reliable". Wow, what a revelation! I'm going to try and set up direct deposit with the IRS.

They're likely using standard IRS Social Security envelopes for this one-time payout.

They don't care if you are getting your SSA payments via direct deposit. "Please disregard this notice if..."

My wife is blind and public transportation is really limited here in Portland Oregon right now and she has been jealous when I go on weekend rides on my e bike.so with our checks and the bike being on sale at almost 1,000 off and the dealer is only 8 miles away we went for a very wobbly test ride. she has not ridden a bike in 30 or more years.

so we bought it Monday and got it yesterday and took it for a ride around empty parking lots to practice. it really made her happy to ride again and terrified too. the bike uses the same batteries as my ebike so we will have as much range as our bodies can handle.

Paid rent, paid off a credit card. Made a student loan payment. Nothing left after that.

I love seeing older couples on those bikes. Lightens the mood a bit.

I believe the stimulus checks were not well thought out and could have been done much better. Too many people who just did not need these received them. Though not a perfect system i think the way it was handled in the UK for example was more targeted. What was done there was that anyone that was furloughed was paid 80 percent of their monthly salary by the government. The employer could pay the remaining 20 percent but this was optional.

That is wonderful! I wish you and your wife all the best. :)

I spent mine on Bitcoin, which is pretty dull in comparison.

The UC in US definitely could have been better. They should have just supplemented the state amount to pad it up to 100% instead of having people getting way more on UC than people actually working.
