My biggest battery user is phone.app. I talk on the phone a lot for work, but no more than when I got the phone.

The biggest impact on battery in your case will be the cell signal. With a full 5 bars the phone will use a lot less battery when talking on the phone then it will when using 3 bars.

There's a few ways to mitigate that:

1. If you have a poor signal, turn off LTE. A poor LTE signals uses more battery than a poor 3G signal.

2. If you are frequently in areas with Wifi and your carrier supports Wifi calling, then use it as that uses less battery if the cell signal is weak.
 
In reality does any one really get 5 bars? I don't think my phone has ever seen 5 bars, 2 or 3 is the norm, 4 once in a blue moon but never 5.
 
Be close to a cell tower. There's one not to far from my home and I get 5 bars at home.

I understand that. I talk on my phone for work so my usage hasn't changed at all. Same reception, tower, bars, etc.

I went from 10-11 hours everyday.

To 6-7 hours (sometimes less) overnight after an iOS update.

As a side note we should really be ignoring those list of apps when comparing a single usage charge. The list is for a minimum of 24 hours, at 6-7 hours of battery that can be 3 charges prior to the current charge. So for example if Netflix was at the top of my list that could have been from 3 charges ago (24 hours) not what caused me to have low battery life on the current charge. There is no relevant correlation between those two statistics for accurate comparison.

I'm not saying its totally useless (although 24 hours is) because it gives you a good idea of what apps are using your battery however you are much better off looking at the 7 day so you can get a better average.
 
my iPhone battery has always been crap since the 3G days.

I don't think I ever got 8 hours of usage on any of my iPhones. Most location services, Push, Background Refresh disabled and a clean reset every few months. I even got LTE disabled as my prepaid plan doesn't support that kind of speed anyway

the worst is taking pictures or recording video. I was on a roadtrip and it would die after 3 hours. had my Powerbank connected like 3 times a day taking lots of pics

I work 2 blocks from a Verizon tower. I see max reception all day at work. Definitely helps battery life. At home where I get 1-2 bars, WiFi calling (Verizon) has helped tremendously - a lot of times I'll just flip airplane mode on, then turn on WiFi and get insane battery life that way. But yeah, in and around town - rare to see full max reception.

I'm a light to medium user so I can go 2-3 days on my 6s+ before needing to plug it in. I can end a day and only use 20% on some days. I have screenshots from my iphone 4s days and iphone 5 days - 5 days of standby easily on one charge (no plugging in). My 6s+ doesn't get that far because I use it too much - on most days I average 40% usage/day. 21 charge cycles after 1.8 months of ownership.

That said, my phone spends a lot of time plugged in.

Signal wise I get full bars at work but at home only 1-2 at best.i lose about 7-8% overnight and signal I think plays a factor in this.

If you were talking to me - I have the samsung chip. I'm happy with it. I've been fortunate I guess, most of my iPhones have incredible battery life (always 105-110% of design capacity (never returned one)).
 
when using Maps navigation (on 6s), does Ur phone overheat & lose batt power fast? Does it have trouble charging when navigating?

I use an Anker car charger (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VH84L5..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=BR8HMPCT012HSNFMCZEE) that provides enough amperage for the phone to charge while I'm using Waze or Google Maps in the car - my phone has never had a problem charging while I use it doing Ingress - but I use chargers that have 2-4+ amps output (batteries and wall plugs).

I try to be plugged in when doing anything battery intensive. I've got an anker lipstick charger, and other larger anker batteries when I do Ingress longer.

Good job. I did the same, returned my SEmsung and when they asked for the reason why I returned it, I said it's Samsung.

No one deserves the inferior chip. :D
 
What exactly happens if you turn off background app refresh for the likes of Snapchat and Facebook Messenger.

Do you no longer receive snaps and messages live, but have to open the app and refresh them?

Nothing really all that noticeable happens either way. You still get notifications as they come in.
