That's a sexy looking laptop! Even if its by HP. I really-really hope we see completely redesigned Mac laptops at WWDC this year...its way over due!! Come on Apple...show everybody who's still the design king!

I'm starting to lose faith, Sammy's S7 Edge is a much better design than the 6S, and this HP laptop is a lot nicer looking than anything Apple offers at the moment.

In the creative world, both praise and scorn are treasured as it shows one has made an impact. The worst condemnation is no reaction at all.

At the end of the day, love it or hate it, HP has got you talking about their new product. That's a good thing for them.

What year is this? Can't claim innovation over Apple with a 1080p display.
In all fairness and to be less Apple-biased, don't forget to include Dell with their XPS 13 with 4K display. Apple isn't the only one "innovating" (or actually past-tense when it comes to Apple).

Wow, there's a lot of butt hurt in here today. I love Mac, but this is an impressive laptop. Not digging the black/gold colors, but the form is very sleek. Let's see you complainers design something better.

Oh, come on!

Had Apple made this, people here would be saying how innovative it is that Apple has managed to put an Intel Core i5/i7 processor into a laptop this thin.

It looks good!

Power is there too.. While I'm not a windows lover, it's not bad. Funny how they didn't add a touch screen though. I thought that would be the standard.

Definitely ups the game, Macbook airs have be come outdated and in desperate need of a refresh.

"HP says the design is inspired by high-end furniture details"

Yeah because I need my laptop to look like a chair? a table? closer to a copper frying pan if you ask me.

Touch screen would have made the panel thickness too much for this type of unit. Also, you need a good sized counter weight to balance the touchscreen when it's being used, that counter weight wouldn't fit under the keyboard.

Nice! Kind of too bling-y for me personally, but I appreciate that they're trying something unique and not just copying Macbooks like other companies.

too bad no one will buy it

winders users all love the fact that they can get $600 lap tops and why pay + $1000 for an Apple product?

they would have to be hypocrites...

Just keep regurgitating the same old myths instead of coming up with something new to say.
In fact, if you look at the success of the likes of the Surface Pro 4 and Dell XPS 13, you'll see that Windows users not only like cheap laptops, they like expensive ones too.

Unfortunately, Apple users don't get a choice. They only get to choose from expensive.

Design philosophy, both inside HP and Apple and other companies, is to drawn inspiration from the world around us. For example, the latest, sleekest sports cars, or clothing fashions, etc. You don't want to make your computer look like that stuff, but perhaps evoke the same feelings/emotions.

It's all a bit meta for me, but that's how the designers talk about this stuff.

I love how when a company comes out with a brand new product and boast about it having better specs then an apple computer that came out like a year ago.

Has anyone noticed it say it can come with EITHER 'Windows or OSX' in the small print??

It's marketing, they broke a one-liner out on purpose. This is what it looks like on hp's website

Based on HP's internal analysis as of 2/10/16 of vendors shipping >1 million units worldwide annually with clamshell design, Windows or OSX, measured at z-height.

Edited to appear more legible with the intent of what it means:

Based on HP's internal analysis: As of 2/10/16 [out] of vendors shipping >1 million units worldwide annually with [a] clamshell design, [running either] Windows or OSX, measured at [the] z-height

Actually, it doesn't look too bad (at least from the promotional pictures). Whether it looks, works and feels as good in person might be a different matter.

When I've tried the latest MacBooks, I didn't care much for the feel of the keyboard or the sluggishness of the system due to the much slower processor. Only having the USB-C port would also not work very well for my needs.

I'd be careful saying that, as much as I'm all about Apple, having a device that thin using Core-i5 and i7s is a bit unheard of, yes they are comparing it to a year old computer but in recent times Apple hasn't really made a push to make a device more powerful than everything else. At least not like the Lisa and original Macintosh of their times.

at this point... the macbook air is still the better laptop...not because of its thinness...but the 13 hour battery life.
that's what matters.
tech companies are ignoring that for some reason

heavy, not that much thinner and very ugly. Yep HP totally innovating beyond apple. I'm not sure HP can claim that anyway, isn't it review type opinion. Sorry but it's so ugly

Meanwhile, this looks interesting. I wonder if/when we'll see it in the Mac.

But...hinges...and copper....and more ports. That's what real "mantle of innovation" companies like HP do.

CEO: The new Laptop must be the thinnest on the Market... only the hinge is allowed to be ENOURMOUS.
Lead Designer: say no more...

The MacBook was Apple's biggest computer fumble in at least a decade, if not more. The resources put in there could have probably updated the entire line two times. Thinness wouldn't have been on HP's mind then, so this laptop wouldn't exist and Apple would be able to skate a bit longer. They could have sold as many units in existing lines as they did MacBooks if they kept the existing lines up to date. Right now only a brain dead person would buy a MBP, MBA, nMB, and/or MP.

I disagree. The MacBook seems to be very popular, and updating it to Skylake and Kaby Lake should be fairly simple (I'm not expecting a second port, but it may get Thunderbolt 3). Apple doesn't need to make it any thinner, as I don't recall them claiming it was the thinnest notebook even last year, and it's still lighter than most notebooks.

This is subjective of course, but I'd wager at least 99.9% of people disagree with you.

I think it looks revolting. If it was just plain black with subtle copper highlights it wouldn't have been too bad, but the thing looks so cheap and tacky. And since when have HP ever designed a truly great notebook? They haven't. They also lack the engineering talent to ensure a notebook that thin keeps adequately cool enough to not be a problem with a 15W CPU inside.
