Not sure if I should like it or not... Sure, it's nice that it has a design that we haven't really seen elsewhere, but IMO, it's hardly attractive. It's also nice to see more than one USB port (looking at you, overpriced 12" MacBook), but they're on the back... I'd rather take one port on the side than 3 or 4 on the back.

I'm not understanding here what is more important: look of the object (questionable and personal) or the fact that is Skylake powered and with no compromises with connections.
3 three USB-C ports (two of which support Thunderbolt 3)
It seems that showing off an Apple logo is the most important feature to care of

I actually think the hinges look cool.

Then again, I think having a huge picture of an apple on my notebook is embarrassing as hell.

Shame the bezel is so thick, it lets the entire design down. If they made it as thin as the Dell XPS 13 then they would have a really good looking laptop. I also dislike the look of the hinges, they could have hidden it like Microsoft did on their surface book, would look much better.

Indeed. Some on here don't realise that it really is OK to praise another vendors products. Besides those cringing at the design are probably the ones who will be soiling themselves over the impending pink macbook coming in the next revision....

I absolutely love my Retina MacBook and this is at the very least an interesting laptop from HP but at the end of the day it doesn't run OS X, isn't fan less, is heavier and has a lower resolution screen. Plus I'm pretty sure Apple's force touch trackpad is the best in the business.

Do you really think the MacBook doesn't have 3 USB ports because Apple didn't know how to engineer it? And no Apple laptops are running Skylake right now so can't really compare.

Does the actual laptop look like those press renders? I haven't seen a real-world photo that does. Unless it comes in different colors. It reminds me a bit of the MacPro. Apple's press renders made it look black but in real life it was a darker silver that looked lighter in some settings.

The HP Spectre is running a Core i5 or i7 Skylake processor, it absolutely smashes the Core M found in the MacBook. Thats why it isn't fanless.

In the next 12 months or more, nobody really cares for USB Type C. Basically this machine has no useful ports if you don't have corresponding hardware. 99,99999% of all current available USB devices use the old port.

In the future it will be more present, but right now the only useful usage of usb type c is for smartphones to not have a hassle with how to plug in the power cable.

I wish they would have used the design of apple for usb type c. Its much smoother to plug it into devices.

Holy **** !! That's thin. That hinge looks gold plated, with all the goodies at the back..

Not too bad, and i can't believe that price tag either.... Well done HP. But how well does it perform. All i gotta wonder is BYB better review this one.

Now u know why Apple has a set back "sorry we have troubles, it seem some other company has bought out a laptop thinner than ours... back to the drawing board." I don't wanna know the reliability score for this one... I know it will be a 0..

These companies are giving Apple a run for their money.

When USB first came to market, we probably all said the same thing.. no devices..... Now we have heaps of USB devices.. We had to all get used to Thunderbolt as well on Mac's,, something that is still not widespread...

Better than USB-C anyway, but USB is by far still the more popular, since i can buy any hard drive with USB, but i can only buy selective ones with Thunderboalt (with high price tag), and no hard drives or hardly any with USB-C, u must use adapters...

We don't like change.

I seriously love the steampunk design with that colour scheme and big hinges. This solution also provides the space for ports on the back, which is IMO a very good design (Apple solution to the space problem - remove the ports ). A real i-series CPU inside is also a huge plus.

The question is, is it made as good as a Macbook or is it a typical flimsy Windows notebook with a bad trackpad. And will it be able to cool that CPU in such a thin case without sounding like a jet (or throttling). I hope so, because I think Apple really needs a kick in the butt when it comes to its current computer line...

And btw., Win10 are really good. Not as good as OS X, but the difference is getting smaller.

How much is this laptop?

I personally don't like the color of the laptop at all. The shiny gold color is keeping me away from this laptop.

I think the best looking Windows laptop right now is still the Dell XPS 13, which the bezel less display is stunning. The professional design and simple matte black color is really the best in the class. Too bad USB C is not included, which I hope can support external GPU if required in the future.

The hinge design is clever, I agree with you on the colour though. Why is this notebook in (dark) silver not a thing?

Why is it clever, because it includes "a pair of arcing piston hinges that fold flush for a 'nearly hingeless look' when the laptop is closed"? So they wanted it to look better closed than when it is open?

Bring on the MacBook Pro's Apple! Show em what you got!

HP is like that awkward kid trying so hard to be cool so he can join the cool club. No matter how hard he tries, we all know he will never be let in the cool club.

Awww...sorry you were never picked when you were a kid.

In case you missed it, Apple isn't the "cool club" anymore. Fast-forward a few years to present and you'll see that nothing "cool" comes from Apple and, well, EVERYONE is in the "club" now (which, btw, has a rather large membership fee).

Why can't people take it for what it is and not compare everything to their precious Apple (who really hasn't come out with anything "new" and "cool" in quite a while)? The Spectre may not be everyone's cup-of-tea in the looks department (I personally think it looks rather rich and luxurious), but they (HP) has delivered a very sleek ultrabook PC that (as many here have mentioned) may be a target for others (including Apple) to best.

Kudo's to HP.

I don't care about "thin" and "blingbling" bring us a real powerhouse MBP 15" or even 16" and a up to date cinema display.

The looks don't appeal to me, though that's obviously subjective. But Apple's laptop line is still running on last-generation processors and the MBA and rMBP, especially the former, need a redesign. It would be great if Apple had something to announce at WWDC, but if not then, it'll be the fall after the annual iPhone event. They could quietly introduce Skylake upgrades sooner, but the upgrade will be even more underwhelming compared to the competition.

"breakthrough hyperbaric cooling system", which features two ultra-thin fans, a heat-pipe and a copper radiator
Cool, HP is now in the car business :p
Did they mention its biggest flaw? It runs on Windows

The race to be thinner is silly. If form follows function, we should get bigger MBPs, because we all want functions.
Took HP long enough to take MBPs apart and study what can be replaced with plastic.
In the end this looks like a John Player cigarette box design.
Gold is garish in tech and I include Apple's gold products. (My taste)
Anyway, as somebody already posted : major flaw: Windows.

PS: HP start calculating your next write off amount and don't produce too many.

So, please explain why the Macbook has only ONE USB-C port.

It's a nice bit of engineering. I am concerned about the screen hinge on that thing though, I'm wondering if there is a significant amount of screen wobble.

I'm confused as hell about what you are saying. USB C is USB C. The USB C port on the Apple Macbook is the same USB C port used on the Dell XPS 13 and XPS 15, and the same USB C port used on this HP Spectre.

How is Apple's USB C port "smoother to plug it into devices"???
