Of course, it's "Mac"Rumours. While there are a handful of normal, rational people, there are of lots of fanatics.

LOL, let me help you with this. There are a handful of normal, rational people, there are alot of fanatics who want Apple to become the Microsoft that they have spent their lives hating.

Do I think webOS will overtake iOS? No, but competition from Android and webOS will push Apple engineers. It will be neat to see what the specs are on this, but I fear what HP will do to webOS.

Why would you want to purchase a £99 AppleTV when a £5 HDMI cable will net the same result? You've then got the inconvenience of carrying that ATV around with you so that you can use that air play feature in other locations vs. carrying a small HDMI cable. One costs a lot more and is far less convenient. Doesn't really sound like a killer combo.

An HDMI can plug into your iPhone to sync it? News to me!

I think a PalmOS-based tablet would have stood a chance under Palm (business problems notwithstanding) but will be ruined at HP. Right now, tablet makers need to be partly artists and dreamers, people who can come up with really interesting ideas that come from unconventional, tangential thinking, and HP is just too "engineer-y", too accustomed to thinking inside the box where everything is improved by getting a faster X and a bigger Y and blah blah blah. With a product type this new, it's not all about specs. It's about who can come up with the most ingenious implementation and I don't think I've ever seen anything fitting that description come from HP.

The things that killed WebOS previously were poor hardware, and poor hardware innovation, (waiting like 3 years for a refresh.) If this fixes those two issues, this could really be a winner. Especially if HP pulls out all the stops and applies its old "iPaq" drive to it.
3 years for a refresh? The Pre was announced in Jan of '09, released in June of '09, refreshed in Jan '10 (Pre Plus) and refreshed again not to long ago (Pre 2). Although not all upgrades hit all carriers so, for example, people using Sprint still only have the original Pre as an option.

Hmm, In every large Corp there is a Video/Conferencing group of some sort. Laptops get hooked up to projectors every day of the week in Corporate America, why not substitute tablet for a laptop where possible? You're not necessarily caring the wrong type of device, just the wrong mindset. Get outside your living room.

To cut through the fog, Sin, the PalmPad is gonna fail. So how are you gonna attach your discontinued device when it's, uh, discontinued?

Excellent point! Because, obviously, once a company ceases production of an item, the one that you already own also spontaneously combusts.

Ah, but nevermind the argument of whether the tablet form factor can benefit from HDMI connectivity, there is important bile that must be vented against the PalmPad!
