As someone who currently works for HP PSG and is right now in a conference call discussing all this, I'm getting a kick out of these replies...

I am not really. I'm feeling pretty depressed.

But I have my iPad and all my Macs at home to keep me from jumping off the roof.

Sprint and Apple don't belong together in the same sentence. Apple is at the top of the tech industry and Sprint is at the bottom of the cell phone providers.

DON'T SAY THAT!!! I have a sweetheart deal at Sprint and really need the rumors of a Sprint iPhone to be true. Apparently, Sprint needs the iPhone, too.

If samsung has that many patents, why on earth do they have to copy every one else?

:p

Good news for Dell I guess, HP was the really the only other seller that's well known for being a computer brand by consumers. All the others (Apple, Toshiba, Samsung, Acer etc.) are known for other things, or are not really known at all by most consumers.

::blinks::

Lenovo? People may not know Lenovo directly (though I've seen a whole media blitz from them lately, so that may change), but Thinkpad is certainly a household name as far as computer brands go... (even if they know it as "the one with the nipple mouse" :p)

Also Asus is pretty well known these days for computers after the introduction of the netbook!

I think you may be seeing some of us letting our inner fanboys and girls get the best of us (I know I'm guilty of it from time to time). However, I'm sure the vast majority here wish no ill will on the employees at HP. Sometimes, we forget that these forums are populated by Apple fans whose livelihood is tied to some of Apple's competitors.

Hope everything works out.

HP was LEGENDARY. But it's run by a bunch of non-innovative business folk. History speaks for HP's success and failure.

Actually, HP was quite innovative. Any company can be innovative however how you market the product matters equally if not more than the product itself.

Android is still around because just like there are steak houses, fancy grilles, there's also a few 10,000+ mcdonalds, bk, jack in the boxes.

Fast food for poor people and gourmet for the smart. pompous? That's the way the world turns. Android = fast food (found in any bargain bin, corner store, cheap eats). Apple = expensive and classy.

Microsoft Wp7? WTF is that? The only thing they can do is keep throwing money at it; they have enough cash to do so.

edit:Having used a wp7 device lately, I must say the UI is just as smooth as iOS. Android? Nope, stuttering pos.

What a load of crap, I'm sick of apple fan boys spouting this nonsense. Just so you know apple products are made from cheap labor made in countries like china, no "premium and class" difference between my iPhone 4 and my samsung galaxy s2.

if the likes of samsung and htc are "fast food", then so is apple.

Actually, Android is made at Google HQ you are talking about the handset which could just as well run Windows phone OS or Symbian etc. Now does Android run equally well on all handsets, ie are all handsets the same? Or does Android run as well period, it will certainly at least partly come down to personal preferences, and at a place like this you are much more likely to find people who happen to prefer iOS, not surprisingly.

Uh no. What differentiates Apple is the design lab of Jonathan Ive and the vision of Steve Jobs. Samsung, HTC, HP, none of them have his peer.

This is sad news, I thought that the touchpad was a good device, and I thought the platform had potential.
If you think about it, HP building it's own software and hardware is very much like apple's way of things, if webOS were to be public, it would be as fragmented and unstable as android. I know everybody here wants apple to be successful, but i think competition is a good thing for the tech world.
I thought that HP was better than this, i don't think that after spending $1.2 billion on palm, they should just abandon the platform, they should keep fighting, the tablet computer is still a very new type of device, HP still had a shot at making something really competitive in the future.

Of course HP failed. They lack the Apple consumer brand recognition, the retail stores, the Louis Armstrong ads.

so what your saying is if its not made by the almighty lord jobs, then it's worthless, cheap, "fast food" garbage?

The ultimate problem is that HP was/is run by money men, whereas Apple is run by idea men. There's a big difference. There's no MBA at the top of Apple.

I have been having all kinds of trouble with getting an HP laptop to work for a user-mostly related to drive encryption and the TPM chip built-in. I have also gotten a lot of run-around from their techs; I even had one instance where the tech actually told me to do the wrong thing and it forced me to start over again (which I had to do at least 2 or 3 times).

So today we finally decided to return the laptop, only to find out that yet again someone else has to help me with the return.

Sadly, I can see why HP is looking to dump the business

does iOS 4 run perfectly on the 3g, 3gs? no, it made my 3g/s like a brick, the latest android phones run android "perfectly" just like the latest iPhone's run IOS perfectly.

just because it's not made by apple, does not make it garbage. I agree it's about personally preference, but i don't see a lot of people on here calling android garbage. Most logical, apple fans admit android is a good and successful mobile OS.

That's total bull. 3 GS runs seamlessly on iOS 4.3's.
Is it slower than iPhone 4? Yes obviously. But it's still fast and holds its own.

Well mine was/is pathetically slow, nothing against though, it's to be expected considering its "very" old hardware.

Like I said, it's the Jobs/Ive combination that's destroyed the mobile industry and is in the process of destroying the PC as well!

Freaking huge blow to HP....

They wasted 1.2 billion dollars on buying Palm. They made a bet on Web OS and now they just wasted it.

They are also taking 100 million dollars loss on all of those touchPad returns from 3rd party retailers including Best buy.

This company CEO is just wasted whole bunch of share holder's money.

The management team should be all fired.

HP is not spinning off Pc business. They are giving up and tell apple, "You win."

I am glad I did not buy HP shares. Shame thing goes for Dell as well.

None of these companies have a good chance against apple or google.

as much as Jobs would like to talk about the 'Post-PC Era,'

the PC era is gaining even more momentum with the influx of mainstream users on social networks, the growth of smartphones, as well as Apple.

as much as he doesn't want to call Mac's 'PC's, they're still PC's.

I can't skim through 12pgs of posts, but what does this mean for their printers? Will they continue to support them (i.e. ink cartridges and whatnot)? Or is it time for me to get a new printer?
